Need advice re: PCMCIA CD-ROM on A1200

I've been struggling to get my A1200 (native CPU, 850MB HD, 4MB Memory Exp) to recognize a PCMCIA CD-ROM. The units I have are designed for use with Wintel laptops and are known working, one is an IBM and the other a "Quick CD" ATAPI unit. The CardPrep tool recognizes them and idefx97 seems to understand the unit. When I tell idefx to mount the CD, there is no complaint but no icon appears either.

Is it generally possible to use PCMCIA CD-ROM drives on A1200s? If so, I'd appreciate any and all tips on getting this working.

What PCMCIA Adapter are you using?

Only PCMCIA cd-rom controllers especially made for the Amiga will work..forget the rest
Examples are Alfa Data CD1200, Squirell SCSI

Not a surprise, I guess.

<sigh> That's what I was afraid might be the case. I'll probably end up hacking a cable together to run an IDE drive, though I hate to have ribbon cable hanging out of the side of the case.

Thanks for the quick response, though!
