BlimpgeddonX - Development Thread
Thought I'd start a thread charting the progress of me trying to make an Amiga game.
The game will be based upon my Spectrum game, but with larger levels/scrolling and things that never made it to that version due to limitations. ZX Spectrum footage https://youtu.be/7z8nrDM2Bgc After experimenting a bit with RedPill and Scorpion engines, it'll be made with the later due to lower Amiga requirements. Currently I have a rough tileset which I've been testing out using Tiled Map Editor, which looks like this. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EBsMZilX4AABcM4.png Anyway I know there's a lot to do, but thought I'd share and let people know about it and easily follow progress.:great Not sure how long it'll take me to make (6months/1year), but certainly less time than my PC game:nuts. Footage from my PC game, that releases soon https://youtu.be/dLt6kY--SEE |
Ohh sweet !!!

Cools cool UltraNarwhal; and will follow with interest ;)
Seems you've got a knack for creating nice, original games on various platforms :great |
Nice stuff...
Like your pixel art... :) Please report how you are doing with Scorpion Engine. Want to build something in there as well.. |
Looking awesome! Feel free to ask for any support you need on the Scorpion thread, and I'll try to help out :great
|
Thanks everyone:cheese
I won't pretend my game ideas are original (what is nowadays), it's often more like my spin on games I played/read about back in the 80s/90s (Project Hornwhale is my spin on Mr.Heli/Atomic Robokid). Anyway hopefully I can make a new Amiga game that people will enjoy. Much like my ZX Spectrum games it'll be free, the only games I charge for are my PC ones (maybe eventually NES too). |
Nothing too exciting, just checking background tile colour darkness against sprites and adjusting tiles colour if needed (so you can tell background from foreground).
As I'm limited to 32 colours I'm using a palette made by DawnBringer, but I've upped colour saturation of it. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EB8ghVhXYAEAJKV.png I'll probably give most sprites a black outline, as the game is cartoony and reminds me of Bionic Commando/Quartet. |
:great

Man, your PC shoot'em up is extra :great !!! and I am looking forward to see the conversion from your ZX spectrum game BlimpgeddonX.
For both games the gfx are really kawaii (you know what I mean as the title of your PC game is in Japanese :p). I like them :great (not but kind of parodius style) |

Looking great! Good luck on the new game! ;)
Btw I'd go with selective outlining instead of pure black. |
Really nice Speccy effort there, played through it a few nights ago and really enjoyed it. The duck mechanic works particularly well.
Maybe in the Amiga version ease the player into it a bit more gently, a few more screens at the start gradually introducing different types of enemy. Perhaps also expand upon the underwater section. Hope this conversion works out for you. |
Thanks. Yeah I'll try and do gradual enemy introductions and may make a whole level swimming based. Currently not sure if duck will work the same as I need to test if it's possible in this engine, they may end up being used like grenades and mines.
|
Now that I've finally finished and released my PC game I can spend a bit more time working on BlimpgeddonX, while also starting my next PC game. So more early screens should start appearing here over the month.
NARWHAR Trailer https://youtu.be/mDU-bCilF9s All my games are available from here https://narwhal.itch.io |
It's a great trailer, congrats!
Any updates to share for Blimpgeddon? Those graphic samples do look really nice. |
Wow, that's fun action happening on the Blimpgeddon video! Your graphics are very cute, too!
I think also it's novel that idea of the duck bomb, I hope the final game will include it too! I would love a true avalanche of real fun, small and cute games like these, if they get coming to the Amiga. |

No updates on BlimpgeddonX, I was going to develop it at same time as PC version, but needed to do simpler game due to working another job part-time during week.
But, I'll be porting new game to multiple systems (ZX Spectrum/GameBoy/Amiga), so there should be at least one Amiga game from me by year end. Attachment 66036 |
Looking forward to it :)
(but no stress of course ;)) |
