Is there something wrong with SUPER72:High Res mode?

Hi,
whenever I try using that mode I have very peculiar result.
It always "overlaps" my actual resolution (800x600) with some kind of empty lines between. The result you can see on the pictures

That screen is not a real Amiga screen, is it?

peceha 18 March 2018 15:48

It is.
It's amiga 1200 connected to vga monitor.

That happens always when I want to change my present screen resolution to SUPER72:High Res (400x300 if I remeber correctly).

That skull is just a picture saved in 400x300 and displayed over 800x600 with eg AdPro (3rd image from top)

EDIT
here you can see how the game DOTT looks like when opened in 400x300 in 256 colors - it just overlaps WB (set to 800x600, 4 colors)

What screenmode is the 800x600 mode?

peceha 19 March 2018 06:49

SUPER72:Super High-Res Laced (800x600)

Looks like it is related to the monitor (I should have checked it before I started this thread...) and the result depends on screenmode the WB is stared in.
I changed my WB to High Res Laced (640x512) first and then to SUPER72:High Res (400x300) and have following result (the picture is moving from top to bottom)

Hence my question; if it was a real multisync CRT we could start pointing fingers at the hardware.

What happens if you get into this mode, then unplug the monitor from the mains and replug it after 15 seconds?

peceha 19 March 2018 11:11

So I have my WB at 800x600 and now I start something that changes to 400x300.
That ugly effect from my first posts is showing up.

Now there are to possibilities (but I think both of them are doing the same):

1. there is a big power switch at the back of the monitor: I switch it off for 15 sek and then back on

2. I take out vga cable while amiga and monitor is running and plug it back after 15 sec

Both of them give the same result: floating picture (from up to down) - no more taht ugly thing.

idrougge 19 March 2018 15:55

So your monitor sucks.

peceha 19 March 2018 17:06

Not necessarily:
- it's big (21 inches)
- it' heavy (10kg monitor + 6kg its stand)
- it can display LORES + HIRES (LACED without flickering)

Who needs 400x300 anyway ... :)

The monitor is the problem here.
What you see is the buffer remaining from the progressive mode, I would think, or something long those lines.

WHen you unplug/power off, you are resetting that to zero, so the "ghost" goes away.

Your monitor does not support that mode properly. That was idrougge's point with "it sucks"
