WHDLoad will not work :(
My system is as follows (although the capacity of HD has slightly changed since installed WHDLoad)
Workbench Kickstart Version 39.106 Workbench Version 39.29 3.00 Rom Ram 2,026,168 Graphics Memory 8,136,360 other Mem 1 Hard Drive split into 2 partitions System 1% Full, 274M Free, 2,835k in use DH0 19% Full, 891M Free, 206M in use Right, now that's out the way! hehe. Basically I'm unable to get WHDLoad to work on my machine and was wondering if any kind peeps could shed some light? I'm going to through all the steps I did (including the mistakes) just to see if anything contributed to it. 1: I extracted WHDLoad.lha to 'system:a' 2: Selected Intermediate 3: Installed in System:Utilities 4: Installed a game from CF0: (Memory Card) to 'system:a/ 5: Created a Games Directory in DH0: 6: Copied the game.zip into new directory. 7: Game didnt load 8: Deleted the keys 9: Game still wouldnt load. 10: Tried loading up the game through Shell 11: Realised that WHDLoad wasnt loaded in 'system:c' 12: Installed into 'system:c' 13: Tried game again - all lights came on (HD, Floppy and Power) and Amiga crashed So basically I tried another game (BubbleBobble) along with the existing game (KickOff2CV) and put them on the same partition as WHDLoad and it still doesent work. I did haphazardly install (or try to) WHDLoad about 2 years ago but when it asked me to overwrite any files I clicked yes. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? |
I helped Sober install some basic software (including WHDLoad) on his Amiga as he is not a Workbench connoisseur. We did it remotely because we're in different countries. He followed all the steps correctly but games crash. I'm really puzzled as to why his Amiga does not seem to like WHDLoad. Could his PCMCIA card reader be causing the problem?

what hardware it is? a1200? any accelerator?
where are the 8mb fast located? latest whdload? |
It's an A1200 with I believe the blizzard chip? I don't have any info other than that really as I purchased it 2 years ago on Ebay.
The memory is located underneath and the actual chips are at an angle. Hopefully this helps your identify what system I have! |
there are no problems with blizzards known.
it simply crashes the machine? make sure there is NO s:whdload.prefs (or all out commented), boot without startup-sequence and manually start whdload: cd drive:where/your/game/is whdload gamexyz.slave preload does it work? |
i bet my pants that he has a MTEC board inside, that brings shit with the 8 mb of FAST
lol Hence the crash at launch :) So please can you confirm by opening the trapdoor under your A1200, and check what you have please :D |

I've heard of people with 040 boards experiencing occasional problems with WHDLoad.... I don't suppose the games you tried require kickstarts to be present on the hard drive? Another thought, most Blizzard cards can be disabled by pressing the 2 key (not the numeric pad one) when booting up. I would also try again without your CF card. |

cheers for the response so far guys:
The machine doesent crash all the time when I try to load it. This has typically happened when I'v quickly double clicked the game icon in quick succession - as if it's overloaded it in a way? I dunno. What generally happens is that I try to run it and the HD Light flashes a few times and then nothing at all. Opened up the Amiga and this is what it says on the card: A1200 8MB RAM/FPU/RTC On the back of the Amigs itself it says: Model A1200 ID.No: 530311 Power 5vDC 3.0A 12vDC 500mA 12vDC 100Ma Made in the Philippines Funkentstort nach DBP-VFG 1046/1984 I have taken a picture of the memory and will upload it when I find the memory stick. To be honest though there's no other wording on there other than the info above. |
what tells SYS:Tools/ShowConfig?

A M-Tec 1200, 8MB Fastram expansion as it seems.

Lool so i was right since the beginning as far as it seems :lol
|
Not surprised it crashes, thats a 4mb simm in that card configured as 8mb.
|
But the card says on it "8MB" is their a sim missing? in the left hand corner (lower) there looks like a chip which should be there? is this missing?
|
Via the jumper pins on the card. Do you have the manual?
|
You need to remove that ram simm that sits on the board in the first picture, and replace with an 8mb simm, theres no jumper setting on that board to accept less memory, only on or off.
|
Edit: Here are the memory jumper settings for 1-8MB
http://bboah.amiga-resistance.info/c...gi?HARDID=1045 @Galahad Maybe you meant this card, which is different to sober's. ;) http://amiga.resource.cx/expde/mtec1200 |
Yes ignore me, the card clearly does! doh!
Setting the card to 4meg should enable it to work. |
