Freeroam?

are there any Amiga games that feature Free roaming, like GTA or Oblivion

i know it would a really basic version, i pretty much missed everything after '94/'95

needs to work on basic A1200

I always saw Oblivion as an updated version of one of the later Ultima games (e.g. Ultima IV or Ultima VII). The player is presented with a virtual world to explore in pursuit of a general goal.

Robinson's Requiem might be worth a go.

Its true (although IMO it would be downgraded in my opinion as the ultima games offer far more fun), but in that respect all the old school RPGs had similarly freeroaming worlds. Heck, even Zelda 1 on the NES already had it :)

I'd say "Free roaming" in this case means more "Sandbox"; something that is supposed to represent a somewhat real environment that provides a certain limited freedom to create your own gameplay. I don't know of such a game on the Amiga because in those days games were still games in their purest form, with specific gameplay tailored to provide fun, not something where you have to look for the fun yourself.

But this forum has already proved many times before that I knew only a handful of the Amiga gems available...

Payback Not quite basic A1200 tho.

TCD 03 March 2010 11:52

Hunter, Midwinter and Midwinter 2. Quite some space to roam in those :)

I doubt it, not many Amiga games feature cell phones.

Djay 03 March 2010 23:27

I played midwinter 2 for years and that can definitely classed as a free roaming game.

Elite and Frontier: Elite 2 are also pretty decent free roam games. Very immersive if you dig outer space;)

hitchhikr 05 March 2010 00:20

Also:

Space rogue
Star Flight
Star Flight II

Unfortunately games like Omnitrend's Universe I or Sundog were never brought to the Amiga.

I googled GTA and Oblivion...look like crime simulator and a Shrek movie respectively *yuck!* I don't think there's anything like that for the Amiga. "Cool World" gives you a lil bit of freedom (you can go back and forward between scenes) but I never tried it on an AGA machine.

Djay 10 March 2010 23:47

sorry Maren, did you have to google GTA and Oblivion?

Maren 10 March 2010 23:57

Yep.

You'd be very right, but it is a FUN crime simulator :)

I have no clue where you get that idea though. Oblivion is a "walk in the field with a horse while swinging a sword, for about 30 minutes and then you're done" simulator.

Wonder why it took me ~40 hours and why I never got back on a horse after the first ride... ;)
