Having trouble with 3.1 soft-kick on A1200 w/ ACA1233
 

I have an A1200, and recently bought a bunch of goodies: the ACA 1233/40, Indivision AGA MKII, and an internal SD->IDE adapter. I got this PAL system a few years ago in a complete Computer Combat Pack, but really only got deep into it recently.

Anyway, I'd like to run AmigaOS 3.9, but realized that it won't work with my Kickstart 3.0 ROM chips. I put an order into AmigaKit.com for new physical chips, but it'll take a week or so to get here. In the meantime, I also have Cloanto Amiga Forever with FS-UAE, so I've been trying to do a soft-kick of 3.1 on my ACA 1233. Every time I do it with ACATune, though, I just get a red screen.

I've tried a ton of things, but my current process is:

• Fire up FS-UAE with my amiga-os-310-a1200.rom that came with Amiga Forever. The system boots fine using my SD card as my HDD, currently on WB 3.1
• Run SaveROM, to make sure that I get a decrypted version of the ROM at the proper size of 524,288 B, not the 524,299 B that the ROMs came with from Amiga Forever
• Put the SD card back in my Amiga, make sure the saved rom is available as kick31.rom in devs:
• Run C:ACATune -maprom devs:kick31.rom -cache on -burst on

At this point the only thing I've ever seen happen is that my system reboots and keeps flashing a red screen. I have to power cycle it to get it to boot with my normal startup-sequence (but if I put the command in there, it does the same thing). Any ideas?

I just had some success by grabbing the ROM not with SaveROM, but with transrom, which comes with WinUAE. I was able to soft-kick it using ACATune and I just got AmigaOS 3.9 to boot on my real A1200!

Amiga Forever Roms don't work with the ACA card as they're encrypted. You need to grab KS3.1 image from elsewhere.

Or better still build a custom 3.9 Rom and do away totally with the OS3.9 reboot :)
