In June I visited the eXtreme Computing 2002 festival in London with a friend. Met the Classic Amiga Preservation Society there and showed my lack of skill at computer games on their Amiga 1200
I can confirm that! :laugh

Very nice, BuZz.

And all in 13 colours!

Now I'll just wait for the letter from their solicitor :-)
You never know...I just hope Team17 aren't still as litigious as I recall them being. Remember the lawsuit for malicious falsehood against AMIGA POWER because AP gave some of their games low review scores? Bizarre!

I have recently been in contact with Mr Brown.Infact he found my site and wrote on the guestbook (which was quite a nice suprise)

Cool stuff. Been very nostalgic lately. Can't believe the Newsflash CD's are still knocking about (I put them together with Ron Fonteine!) Oh and we did a few Amiga games too.. (Alien Breed.. etc) ;-)

And he approved what we did to the alien breed TA intro.

So i 'should' be ok... (not very famous last words)

So long as he doesnt realise I am infact the drug guy he met at an ECTS some years ago.. ehm. .no wait. i shant tell you

thanks for the nice comments.. ill pass them on to XtC :d

It's pretty faithful to the original in terms of look since its based on a ripped pic of the original. with some letter modifications. I think if it was redrawn without dithering it may loose a bit of its character. although it might be something to try..

Big grin

If Martyn Brown is feeling nostalgic, then he should be redirected back to EAB if it's fallen out of his bookmark lists!!
No shortage of Amiga gaming fans here!!

I don't think that Amiga Power always gave low marks. It's just that they used the whole percentage scale, while other magazines used 50-100% and always gave new games above 70%.

So, when compared to other magazines, yes they gave low scores, but they usually gave good marks to games that deserved it.

Remember that games companies relied on people buying games and high marks were an important part of that. So, when a company sees one of their shit games getting 10%, instead of the 70% that they expected, of course they will get upset!

Don't get me wrong, Amiga Power was the best magazine I.M.O, their humour was fanatasic........

and I DID like the way they scored games, i thought all the other mags were too generous... Amiga Power seemed just right.

Here's the AB:TA mini-review from AP:

Alien Breed was hard. Alien Breed 2 was incredibly hard. But Tower Assault is self-indulgently grotesque. Slack collision detection, illogical dead ends, radioactive rooms that Kill You Because You're Standing In Them and 30-second dashes to the door before the level explodes so ending the game you've just played for an hour while carefully building up your lives and ammo reserves collaborate to mow down the spirits of fun. Then the indestructible and incredibly powerful security lasers, non-allowance of player two joining in half way through and bugs step up to finish off the heaving, crawling wounded. But hey - it's so atmospheric. The Casino Royale of Amiga games. 2/5*
