Format any old floppy disk and drag the Trashcan icon from it over to your HD.

You DONT have to leave out the icon. Just drag it straight into your harddrive's icon or window. Don't put it in the desktop

The standard AmigaOS Trashcan can not be put on the desktop. You'll have to leave the drawer window containing the trashcon on the screen, then drag files you want to delete on the trashcan icon.

If you want to have a global trashcan (a trashcan sitting on your desktop, just like on MacOS/Windows), download Benchtrash from Aminet.

Not without a bit of fiddling around.... I used to leave my two trashcans outside
