Wanted: LG GDR-8164B DVD drives

Hiya!

I have found what I needed, please delete/lock this thread

I am looking for this specific dvd-rom IDE drive, the LG GDR-8164B ... I need 2 of them

there are on eBay but with bloated prices due to some custom firmware busines...

Does It have to be a black one? I've got a white 8164B I'm not using....

As I said over at A.org that particular model is going to be VERY overpriced on the interweb as it can have it's firmware reprogrammed to enable it to read/dump Wii discs on the PC.

yes alexh , all 8161/8162/8163/8164 drives can read raw nintendo disks... but this drive also with a talismoon adapter can be put inside an xbox1 and replace it's drive , offering higher speed and media compatibillity... see here

Is that what it is for? Replacing the drive in an Xbox 1?

Unless you REALLY need the high speed I recommend that you just get a second hand xbox 1 Samsung DVD drive.

No, you would have to make some small adjustments to the black dvd tray. Most people do this using a rotary tool, like a dremel. There is no guide available for doing this at this time.

An LG drive wont be a good physically fit or match the box (bezel etc.)

Check "Spares or Repairs" on eBay for xbox for cheap stuff.

yes, I have tested one alexh, and one must only make a modification to fit the original xbox faccia to it... it really is a high speed drive... I will look on the samsung drive you recommended, thanks!!!

ps. I see I can get a "DVD DRIVE SAMSUNG SDG-605 FOR XBOX *NEW*" for 23,08eur from a local store
