A600: meet Retr0Bright... WARNING: gratuitous images within!

I'm not going to tell you how long this took, but it was based on 9% peroxide in gel form. They do say the slower the process the better though (never again).

Any excuse for some HW pr0n so enjoy...

Before:

After:

Pretty good huh.

It currently has an A603 and a 4GB microdrive inside it. Nowhere near finished with this project yet though, to-do list includes:
  • Possible bad caps - add-hoc wavy image though both RF and AV. Will probably post again about this later...
  • No HDD LED - CF adaptor needs points soldering
  • Case tweak - to allow easy CF IDE drive removal
  • Switchless ROM changer - not sure about the need for a 3.1 chip though
  • Would love some SRAM - WANTED!
Caps might wait. Probably easier to pick up a new MOBO and I know somebody with two spares. Having said that I want to learn to solder and do have a dead A500 for practice...

If these images ever disappear from imageshack, they're in albums under my profile.

This guy still has his 4MB Sram Card for sale. Working but slighty damaged. He wants about £40 for it.

Too bad 4Mb SRAM demands such idiot prices. That's a thing I never understand. Rarity? High demand?

New here, so I saw this just today, what a great job with the cleaning!

I'm not sure I'm in need of this for the Amiga I just bought (waiting for delivery) but just checking up in advance. I searched around for peroxide here in Sweden and came to the conclusion that it might be hydrogen peroxide, is that correct?

The description is that it's just to bleach "stuff".. correct? Not sure where I could get it in gel form though.. But I've read that it might be available in a 3% and a 30% version.. What would you prefer?

The weaker one perhaps? Means more work, but perhaps won't destroy the buttons like 30% would?

Also, are there any dangerous fumes from it? Should this be done in well ventilated areas or outside? I guess it should anyways.. :P

All in all, great work!!

@toffo

Hydrogen peroxide is correct. You can make it into a gel yourself, so probably the most economical option is to get the 30% solution and dilute it to around 10%. It's not highly dangerous but you don't want to spill it around the house or especially on yourself, so gloves and goggles should be used.

Read up on hydrogen peroxide and how it's applied to computer whitening.

Bought a 12% creme for around £2.50 from here and it works wonders.

you can easily get a 1Litre bottle @35% (*so a 1:3 dilution ratio with water*)

£7.15 + £5.99 postage eBay.co.uk BIN

That's more than enough to do a couple of machines as a direct liquid to be honest. If you were mixing this up into a get I would recommend a 1:3.5 ratio with purified water and there would be enough for a whole host of machines LOL!

Reading through other Retr0bright threads and the original page and I'm wondering..
Would it be enough with hydrogen peroxide and just purified water? And no other ingredients?

It will work eventually, but the oxygen releasing cleaning agent is easy to get and speeds up the process greatly (comes in a pink jar over here, "Vanish Oxy Action" or something like that, pretty sure it's available on that side of the sea too). You can certainly give it a try without any other ingredients at first.

I'm still waiting for my A600 to get here, will probably be next Wed or Thursday.. poor me!
According to the picture, my Amiga doesn't look too shabby though

Will have to do something about that ugly UK plug though :P
and get a lot of other extras to the setup, sometime in the future :P
