I didn not check the version uploaded to the zone yet, but it looks as if it would be v4.x

Please remove it. CygnusEd is still sold, and still under development.

it is v3.5 and was released in 1993, so I think it can be considered an abandoned version!!!!

Sorry for reviving such an old thread but I've been looking for this wonderful editor so if someone could up it to the zone I would be very grateful. :)

Why don't you pirates learn it ? It is *illegal* to share copyrighted programs, no matter which version.

You can buy it here: http://www.apc-tcp.de/support/0030e.html

I didn't know it still was developed.
Sorry about that.
Went through Aminet and found a couple of editors.
It's just that it's a pain to use the editor (ed) included in OS3.1.

sorry to say that but for me, they simply use the name & work of the authors of the most famous amiga editor, add some "improvement" and sell it.
45 euro... a bit expensive imho, when you see all the good software in GNU/GPL etc... license, it's a shame to see that.
Sorry, i respect your knowledge of amiga Mr.Thomas, i respect the work of all amiga authors but when i see ppl like AmigaZeux who release a good "winamp" player, a very good internet bomberman clone and other program for free i simply think that selling Cygnus for 45 euro sound wrong to me.
Perhaps they hope that with the sell of such a tool to use the money to develop some new tools/games for amiga but... i hope i'm wrong but i don't think so.

Anyway, there's a similar thread that give you some good alternative to CED http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=205554 my choice was EDWordPro, a good freeware and "light" tool not as GoldED.

I think CygEd 3.5 came on a coverdisk from some magazine... if that's any help... else you can always try MicroEd (the lightweight version of GoldEd).

That's not the point. The CED authors decided to release CED as closed source commercial software and it is forbidden to copy such. If you find 45 Euro too much, then nobody forces you to buy it. Even if it is too expensive for everybody and they don't sell a single piece, it is still forbidden to copy it.

If you prefer to compare CED to some GPL tools, then why don't you use those GPL tools ? If you are concerned so much about CED, if you want CED so much that you think about how much money it costs, then isn't this the proof that CED is worth its money, even (or especially) for you ? If it's not worth, then why bother, just use another editor and let them sit on their unsold copies of CED.

I am in agreement with Frog regarding the "morals" a certain company seems to have with regards to them buying software up and selling it at ridculous prices, but it is still sold and as such it cannot be spread on here, regardless of what you think

i think Thomas get me wrong... i'm not interested in CED and perhaps i've already bought it since a long time who knows... i just talk about selling such an old tool even with some improvement for 45 euros is too much imho.
But on the other hand i'm totally agree that if it's still copyright, respecting the authors is to bought the software.

You quote the 1st part of my post but forget the end of it where i talk my choice of a CED alternative was EDWordPro which will prevent you to have some wrong thinking about me.

I was talking for anybody that want to stay in legal way and want to bought CED and others ppl that makes some good tools as freeware.
Anyway as Amiga is since few years more dead than alive, when can only except some good tools by some amiga fans.

Sorry for being offtopic

I'm pretty sure there were some CygnusEd shareware versions released.

I have one old version, and it says it can now edit files larger the 5k, I laughed when I saw that.
