View Full Version : Screenshot request!

OK people, here's your first opportunity to contribute to the HOL database...

We have a lot of nice screenshots in HOL, but it's pretty hard to grab screens from CD32 and CDTV games. We have some original games in our private collections, and some screens have been sent to us by EAB members (Thanx Amigaboy and Akira!).
I'm sure there are other board members with CD32/CDTV originals, and it would be really sweet if you could provide some screenshots from them. Some guidelines:

- All screenshots should be in GIF format. If you don't want to convert them, that's no big deal. We'll do the job.

- All screenshots should be 320 x 256 in size. If you can't be arsed to resize etc, it's no big deal.

- All screenshots should be centered, both vertical and horizontal centering please. See attached screen for an example.

- We want titlescreens, intro screens and gameplay screens.

If you got something for us, put the stuff in a ZIP-file and upload it to our FTP at abime.net, user "hol", password "incoming". If you include a text file with your name, we will be able to give you credits for your contribution

If you have any questions about this request, post them in this thread.

OK, here's a list of CD32 and CDTV titles that we need screens from:

I have most of the games on your list, but I have very little time to take screenies these days.

If you want Walker, you can get them from my FTP.

IŽll do it :) Since I also got those titles AND some spare time this and next week, IŽll give it a go :D

Finally something that I can contribute to this fine project :p

King Arthur himself has empowered me to award the greatest contributors to the Hall Of Light quest the ultimate accolade: a HOL Hero medal and the right to call themselves Sir.

Step forward Sir Amigaboy and Sir Akira.

Be silent, be still, that's it!

And look upon this moment. Savour it. Rejoice with great gladness, great gladness.

Remember it always, for you are joined by it, you are one under the stars!

Remember it well then, this night, this great victory. So that in the years ahead you can say, "I was there that night, with Cody Jarrett!"

For it is the doom of men that they forget...

Im trying to do Wing Commander CD32, just how many shots do you require exactly?

We need a Double Barrel Screenshot (DBS) first - that is, a 640x256 gif with the titlescreen on the left and an in-game screen on the right (with no dithering or anti-aliasing). The screen in the DBS should show the gameplay e.g. no loading screens.

Then you can make up to 9 alternative screenshot gifs (320x256), which can be any graphics from the game.

Thanks! I'll email King Arthur (king.arthur@avalon.com) and discuss the latest knighthoods and medals.

03 October 2002, 16:50
Ok! Ive put up some screengrabs. Let me know if you want any alternative shots. Will be happy to provide.

Saying that, Wing Commander CD32 is a biatch in some ways as naturaly you cant save your game unlike the ECs version.

I must get onto the Whdlaod crew about this... :D:D:D

Walker

Great set of screens, Antiriad! We don't need any more from Wing Commander now, as we have a limit of 9 screens per game (including DBS). Here's the DBS I created from your screens:

Glad theyre appreciated. I checked my collection of Cd stoof and found i can do the following also:

CD32

Arabian Nights CD32
Super Skidmarks CD32

CDTV

Case Of The Cautious Condor CDTV
Turrican 1 CDTV

Will hopefully do tomorrow...

Antiriad

Turrican 1 CDTV has been uploaded. However, i cant seem to get Arabian Nights CD32 and Case Of The Condor to work properly under WinUAE.

Arabian Nights gets stuck on the language selection screen. I *think* it requires a CD32 pad which UAE cant emulate (a to do that, perhaps?) in order to proceed. Case Of The Cautious Condor just doesnt run. I think its asking for CDTV specific hardware check. There is a CDTV/CD32 emulator called Akiko isnt there? I will try that...*edit* WTF!!???!!! Pay $$$ for an emulator???? Doh!

Skidmarks 2.2 also looks suspiciously like the normal AGA HD version of it. I think i might have been a tad rash with that one.

Looks like you ran out of screenshots, people... ;)

If you have some CD32/CDTV images, don't hesitate to PM me and I'll be happy to download them! :D

Sorry @Walker :rolleyes

Was really busy with work the last weeks, IŽll try to make some more screenies next week :)

I dug up my old PC gamepad and configured it as a CD32 gamepad. It works a treat, so I grabbed a few screens from Arabian Nights.

I was wrong. All it took was a little patience. About two hours of patience.

Twistin'Ghost

YIKES! That long? I never tried to get it working, but I know people who did, so that's why I mentioned it. That sounds longer to wait than even One On One!

James Pond 2, done and upped to the Zone.

I know I should upload it to the FTP, but another usless FTP address in my FlashFXP site file is really uneeded;)

It's bad enough having the AEN ones in there:lol

I'm doing more now, so Walker if you've done some of these already and not updated the list there will be hell to pay.

Gets BITCHSLAPPING hand ready

Walker
18 November 2002, 21:18
Yes! Yes! Slap me, slap me... slap.... err... oh...

* cough *

Thanx for the screens, blackcornflake and Ian!!!

One thing though; DBS's without ingame screenshots are NQATNH (Not Qualified And Thus Not HOLified).

Yeah, I suspected as much. :)

I'm having issues with getting into the game proper with a couple of titles, even using the original CDs. Anybody got a foolproof config they want to send me? :D

I can upload a few screenshots of Trivial Pursuit CD32 if they're still wanted.

yes please :cool

Steve
13 December 2002, 00:41
Ok. I'll upload them to the zone if you want. They will be proper PAL resolution (720x576) and .bmp files as well. Is that ok?

I might be able to do Chaos Engine CD32 also. I have that.

Steve
13 December 2002, 01:10
Screenshots of Trivial Pursuit CD32 are now in the zone. :)
Tomorrow I'll try get some of Chaos Engine CD32.

Djay
13 December 2002, 01:58
this is a really silly question... but i'll ask it anyway:D

is HOL going to be a database of games... with info... screenshots etc... but no downloads?

all i can say is... sorry in advance

and when i try to view HOL it asks for a user/pass...?

will it be a work in progress project...?

when will it be open (apart from the IRC meeting)...?

Walker
13 December 2002, 11:08
@Steve
Thanks for the Trivial Pursuit CD32 screens!

@Djay
Yes, HOL is a database with Amiga games information, screenshots and boxscans. No downloads.

The HOL gates will open during the Xmas IRC chat. At first it was supposed to be a preview only, but we decided to make it the real launch. There are still some features not implemented yet, and of course there will always be new information and images to add.

Steve
13 December 2002, 14:42
I didn't read the top properly. I can retake some new ones if you want at 320x256 and I'll save them as GIF also. Resizing the ones I uploaded seems to lose a lot of pixels using PaintShopPro.

Oh. Now I see why nobody has taken screenshots of Chaos Engine CD32. :(

Big-Byte
13 December 2002, 14:53
The er only original cd32 game I have is called 'Strip Pot' do you need any screenshots from that? If so then you can get it from my ftp. Ive never played it myself

Walker
13 December 2002, 15:24
@Steve
No need to retake any screens, the "old" ones will do just fine!

@Big-Byte
We have a DBS but without ingame screenshot. Cody probably has the game in his collection, but if we need it we'll PM you about it.

Djay
13 December 2002, 16:54
i can scan....

Speedball 2 CD32
Project-X / F17 Challenge CD32
Tower Assault CD32
Nick Faldo's Championship Golf CD32

original covers!

Walker
13 December 2002, 19:52
We have two different CD32 covers for Tower Assault, but the rest are more than welcome! :)
