hey there,
does anyone know where to get or who to ask for the famous 'devious tools' releases? thanks.

Oh, not one app request, but a hundred...
Never thought I would do this one day, but I think he deserves to be sent to AEN.
PS: well, this isn't really a joke, as AEN 10(?) FTP's do host all the devious tools :)

hi,
yes i know it's a bit strange to ask for this. but i'm NEW to the amiga demo scene and don't know much about it yet...
i bought an amiga 1200 for the feel of nostalgia some days ago :)
the name 'devious tools' is the only tools collection i got to know of.
back on c64 demo scene i tried to collect all tools i could get - i love tools ;)
btw: who is AEN?

hi Fissuras,
i think i know what you mean:
you're talking about the godflesh FTP's, right?
unfortunately there are a lot of users trying to connect ;) and these FTP's are busy most of the time - but i won't give up ;)

Welcome to EAB Olli.
Nice to hear youve just got back into the scene and bought a A1200 :) Theres nothing like real hardware eh?
AEN is Amiga Emulation Nation, a website and set of ftps run by the megalomaniac G******h.
Access them via http://home.wanadoo.nl/godflesh/
Problem is that they are always down.
Ollibolli
22 September 2002, 23:28
hi antiriad,
yes you're right: emulation is a nice try - nothing more ;)
has the PC ever heard of a soft-scrolling register...baaaah ;)
at least the c64 had one - i'm not sure with the amiga...
maybe i'll try to set up a mirror FTP for AEN just to be able to get the files one day :laughing

AFAIK they just need MUI, which you can download from aminet.

Yep, they use MUI for the later issues (>150ish iirc) the earlier ones were done in a more 'demo' style and are difficult to get working on expanded machines :(

i'm not sure, if all their content is rated as abonodware, but if so, they could find a nice home at Magix Ftp ( http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=38697 ). what do you think ? :)

well i've just had a shock, someone has uploaded 92gb of amiga files on to a newserver
includes all the devious tools as i downloaded the 5mb list of what is contains.
as the 252 are part files, have to download all 92gb, to unpack the multi-spanned archive. stupid i know, i dont have 92 gb of space to download it, and then another whatever space is required to extract. if u estimate 50% compression, you could be looking at 184gb worth of files. small note: the person who uploaded is FRENCH.
apps, games, music disks, demo disks, LSD tools disks i think all of the TOSEC is in it.
if u have the space to download and speed and have a newserver u can download its in the alt.binaries.emulators.amiga. I know i dont have the space.
currently running low at 1.79gb from 400gb filled with music and movies, and programs i have downloaded and burning on a regular basis.

Hi andy2004,
Wow! :shocked What a find!
Some thoughts...
Whilst it would be a shame to let the greater part of this uploaded 92GB archive go to waste, it may not actually be necessary to download the whole archive in order to extract the remaining Devious Tools.
If the archive is in rar or 7zip format (most likely), then, unfortunately, this will not be an option. :sad However, if it is in zip or gzip format, I know of a tool which will extract the contents of broken archives (including part archives), by searching for valid compressed data and extracting it. Inspection of the archive will show what files are contained therein by looking for header information.
By my reckoning, a 92GB archive in 252 parts gives an average size of around 374MB per part. Downloading one part of this archive would therefore be justified if it gave a reasonable chance of locating these tools inside the archive. And any part of the archive could potentially contain very useful files. ;)
If the list of what it the archive contains reflects the order in which the files were archived, it may be possible to guess with some accuracy which of the 252 parts contain(s) the required files.
Like hit (above), I don't have access to a binary usenet server (in fact, I don't know anything about news-servers!), but there will be other users who have (and do!).
Perhaps you could upload the list of what the archive contains to the Zone, and confirm the archiving method and whether the parts are of equal size or not, so that we might begin to form a plan...
Is there anyone else with me on this?
If not: as I said, just some thoughts...

uploaded the .nfo file to the ftp, to make it smaller as its 5mb i 7-zipped it
doh, The zone allows zip rar and lzh.
well thalion i see in the archive list theres a crunchmania disk by the creator i was wondering whether that was a cracked / full version. the DMC disks i believe would be the old 2.5 version. and i uploaded the 3.0gold of that. i' havent properly gone through the list of files yet, i did some lsd hacking tools, no idea whats on them though, look interesting. trying to free up my drive space and hope mu isp doesnt delete the 92gb of files.
but no worries.
managed to claw back 10gb today.
And thanks again for uploading the Devious tools, 1-119, and into my upload folder of all accounts, i was looking for your name.

ok i'm downloading the first part1.rar from that 92gb just to have a look, and see how much data it may contain. there are a total of 252 files each around 396mb. if i can extract most of the data, i'll put it on a cdr as a backup, being told by my news server downloader its going to take 30min at the current speed i can get, which means when my speed gets halfed each file would take 1hr aprrox, lol, dare i do the math on that, 10.5days approx,
ok first file downloaded and it contains nothing but games
typical i'm interested in the apps not games

I didnt say i was downloading all 92 gb of the 252 files. as i still dont have anywhere need 92gb free and also i believe my isp doesnt keep the files longer than 1 week on their server.
their news server is a free service as i subscribe to their broadband, not many people use it.
but i will download as much as i can before its removed, non of my partitions are larger than 92gb either
my drive space is made up of 1x80gb 1x27gb and 1x300gb, the 300gb is partitioned into 5 partitions,

Don't worry, mate.
We're grateful that your ISP has presented you with this wonderful opportunity, but disappointed that we can't be of any help at this stage.
No-one here's expecting you to download the whole archive (That would surely be a miracle!), but anything you can achieve will be appreciated by everyone on this forum, I'm sure.
None of your effort will be wasted.
Please let us know how it is going.
BTW, in case the parts of this archive you are able to download turn out not to be contiguous (for example, because the links to one or more parts are broken or some parts are truncated or corrupted) it would be of great advantage in attempting to extract the data from these files to know the exact filesize of each part (if you can get this information).

28 November 2008, 16:41
Ok time to say something. Fortunately i have access to usenet and my Server keeps the data a bit longer. Unfortunately the download i quite slow so it will take a lot of time to download that stuff.
But till now i have downloaded about 24GB so lets see how long it takes to get the rest. :nuts
andy2004
28 November 2008, 17:26
well your connection is faster than mine thalion, i'm on file 7, as i speak
which works out about 2.24gb, current speed 116Kbps as i said my isp halfs my download speeds during the day and night, so i may get back my 249Kbps from 1am.5 of those files today.
may i ask which newserver client u are using.
to answer prowler, well the archive is non-solid, so i can extract most of the zip, adf, lha, files, i would be the one that would require the next archive. aka if i downloaded 1-10 all files could be extracted - 1, the 1 that would be the first on 11

28 November 2008, 20:19
@Thalion @andy2004
A huge thanks to both of you for your efforts! :great
if i downloaded 1-10 all files could be extracted - 1, the 1 that would be the first on 11
But what if you downloaded 1-10 and 13 only. How would you extract the files in part 13? That's what I was referring to. If you knew the exact filesize of the parts in between, then you could extract most of the files in part 13 (by editing the header in part 1).
[Edit] I wonder how long this archive took to upload?
andy2004
29 November 2008, 13:46
winrar can extract non corrupt files from an archive. the first file of part13 may be corrupt due to the file being split between 12 and 13, but then the rest of the files would be undamaged except maybe the last file in the archive which would probably also be a bit in file 14. edited my previous post i put solid instead of non-solid.
Solid rar archive requires all the files to be able to extract 1
nonsolid u can extract any file within the archive.
winrar would look for the fileheader for the non corrupt file which it could extract

Well, that clears that up, then! :)
Will your ISP really remove these files after just one week? :shocked Or will it be one week after the last download as with some filesharing sites?
andy2004
01 December 2008, 15:24
well its sometimes depends on the data being uploaded. I dont know how they do there newserver whether they copy some of the files from the bigger newservers, or some other method, i do know that sometime when i've download the list from a group and i click a file to download that i want which was usually updated the same day, sometimes i get a red bar i use newsbin means file has been deleted. usually happens with albums mp3's. they may delete due to noone downloading them.
amiga files are now unavailable on my newserver. just tested it and it was showing up as red.
oh look, i posted it on the 24nov and now exactly 1 week later 1dec its dead. I wish i was wrong.

still dont think i could have downloaded it all even if i had the space, only a 2mb connection. 240Kbps from 11pm - 10am and 116Kbps 10am - 11pm when they limit me, and these times arent fixed. i remember waiting till 1.15am before i got my 240kbps speed back before now, and lost it again at 7am because i was downloading through the night
so it not 12hrs highspeed and 12hr low speed, funny really because i supposed to get slow speed when more people in the UK get home and want to use theirs, well most people work to around 5:30pm, and most go to bed before 11pm, so the times are all screwed up.

so only another 62parts to go, WOW, as prowler said good luck and i hope your newserver keeps the files until you have managed to download the rest. damn files have been removed from my ISP so i cant download. Wished i got that 1tb drive instead of the new 22LCD /TV that was approx 1 month before i found out about the archive.
I didnt expect anyone to actually download it by the way. I just mentioned it in here. wish the uploader had split it into sections instead, 1 for games, 1 for lsd, another for other apps. etc. instead of 1 multispanned rar 90+gb.

i see DMC Disk Mag Creator is there
AMIGA\Applications\Public Domain\[ADF]\Disk Mag Creator (1995)(Gibson, A. - F1 Licenceware)(LW)(Disk 1 of 2).zip
AMIGA\Applications\Public Domain\[ADF]\Disk Mag Creator (1995)(Gibson, A. - F1 Licenceware)(LW)(Disk 2 of 2).zip
is that version 3 gold or the 2.5 version if its 2.5 i already got version 3 gold.
AMIGA\Applications\[ADF]\Crunch-Mania v1.91t (1994)(Schwarz, Thomas)[WB].zip
is that the same as the aminet verision or is there something else on the disc image
if u dont mind i would like the Magnum Pro.zip file
AMIGA\Applications\Public Domain\[ADF]\Magnum Pro (19xx)(F1 Licenceware)(LW)[disk mag tool].zip
wow the list seems to go on and on. didnt realise how many utility discs there are. so i'm not asking for anything else

Judging from andy2004's post it seems like this collection probably has loads of TOSEC stuff inside i.e.
Commodore Amiga - Applications - Public Domain - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2006-09-15_CM).dat
... Disk Mag Creator (1995)(Gibson, A. - F1 Licenceware)(LW)(Disk 1 of 2).adf
... Disk Mag Creator (1995)(Gibson, A. - F1 Licenceware)(LW)(Disk 2 of 2).adf
... Magnum Pro (19xx)(F1 Licenceware)(LW)[disk mag tool].adf
Commodore Amiga - Applications - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2006-10-07_CM).dat
... Crunch-Mania v1.91t (1994)(Schwarz, Thomas)[WB].adf
I've put all the above in The Zone! for you anyway andy2004 even though they are not specifically from the archive Thalion has downloaded.
@Thalion; what would be really cool is if you could to run everything through all the latest public TOSEC DATs and see if there's anything new ;)
I know it's a big ask though and would take quite a bit of time to do...

Thanks DamienD you didnt have to upload all 4 just the bottom one, i wanted to know if the other 3 where what I thought they where, guess i can check that myself know.
ok found out what i wanted to know,
CrunchMania is the same as the aminet version,
DMC seems to be version 2 cant find the proper version number, in the program inself it tells you all the versions and 2.0 is the last one. and the config file is not encrypted. unlike DMC 3 GOLD

16 December 2008, 14:43
