That game was one of the few that I actually completed. I liked it cause it was so simple - and I got it for only £1

I remember the vortex. A horrid game which had multiple endings. Once in a while you'd get to click on the screen, and once in the game you had to make a quick reaction.
Then there was The 7th guest, made good use of FMV sequences and still kept a good deal of playability in the puzzles.

Happily, my exposure to the marvel that is streaming video was limited to intro anims on the CD32, as I didn’t blow £1,000 on a multimedia (:laughing) 100Mhz PC. No interactivity for me.
In a lot of cases, the intro anim was the only difference between the A1200 and CD32 releases of a game. That and a crap CD soundtrack. And £5 extra on the price.
An Amiga FMV game that few of you will probably have heard of (demoed but never released) is 'Golem'. You played a big metal bloke.

Under a killing moon is my guess. Or maybe the followup called Pandora directive.

Quite... i bought this a while back and realised it was one of the worst cases of Psygnosis syndrome - graphics over gameplay, or in this case FMV over gameplay...

I actually own the 7th Guest, and like it alot. The FMV scenes were done right, meaning they were ancillary to the game, and these little vignettes were positive contributions. Not like Microcosm or Night Trap or the other horrors you mentioned. The 7th Guest had revolutionary graphics for its time.
And the FMV craze (which 7th helped start) was not yet in full effect. So it was not what I'd consider a true FMV game. Hey Galahad, remember "Sewer Shark" for the Sega CD?

Ground Zero, Area 51 or a game very much like it.... god, they all sucked ass big time.... if an FMV game walked into a Gay club, every homo in the joint would be jealous of its ass sucking abilities!

Not all FMV games were bad. Gabriel Knight 2 was a masterpiece, too easy though. The Tex Murphy games have many fans. Zork Grand Inquisitor was very funny.

I remember my friend showing me Under a Killing Moon on his glistening new PC. While he was entranced with the cut-scenes, I thought the actual gameplay (what gameplay there was) sucked hard. How boring.
I remember that Wing Commander 3 + 4 had tons of cut-scenes, too.

Since someone said Microcosm, can someone give me a review? Is it worth $13 for a PC version of it?

The One gave 89% to Microcosm, if I remember correctly.
The SEGA CD is FULL of games like that, lots of "Dragon´s Lair" and stuff like that.
There´s one I liked on PC, though, "Rebel Assault II"
