View Full Version : Favorite Amiga "Gory" Game?

Right I only know of 2 hence the 2 options above. If you know any more add them to your reply.

My personell favorite is Barbarian, the chance to lop someones head off, at the time I found it greatly amusing, the lovely thuding noise the head makes hitting the floor .... Ooh I've got chills just thinking about it;)

Moonstone is rather gory too...

oh yeah, and Mikro Mortal Tennis :laughing

Barbarian rocked. I loved chopping guys head off. Remember he sound effect the guy would make when he prepared for the fatal chop. Something like 'kee- ya! And then the commentator guy would go 'Ha ha ha', and then that music would set in. Classic.

I dunno if it would be classed as gory, but I loved the animations in BattleChess.

Pure class and one of the better EA games.

Here's one that everyone tends to forget when discussing gory games: Creatures. Twisted stuff, this! And we cannot forget Techno-Cop and Mortal Kombat.

And if we wanna delve into the PD world, there's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (not graphic, but it's the thought that counts!), Schoolyard Slaughter, and a sick pair of text adventures, Bleed - A Journey Through Violence and its sequel Bleed II. And there's a bit of gore in the Zombie Apocalypse series, as well.

Has everyone forgot Gloom and Gloom Deluxe. Turn on the messy option and it's quite gruesome with arms and heads and legs flying everywhere. They also stay on the floor. Nice. :)

Now if you're talking about gruesome animations then how about the suicide man series. :D I also love other Paul Henderson anims such as Golfers Guide (very funny) and 3 Ways to Stop Smoking.

I don't know if the admins will come in here and add a couple of options. My favorite game which featured a lot of blood would be Moonstone, but if nothing is done to the poll I would most definately go with Barbarian. That was a really funny game too.

Man, Twist, you stole my thunder:)
Without a doubt, Texas Chainsaw is the BEST gory amiga game, PD or commercial.
The simplicity, the premise..to kill as many as possible so that you can extend the killing time, is pure beauty.
The game, and the movie, have a special place in my heart.
Gotta love those little pools of blood and guts once a victim is...

Ouch. I never played Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so my top has to go to Moonstone, with Barbarian a close second. Remember getting impaled by creatures carrying long pikes? Remember cutting these guys in half, and hearing a gallon of blood splashing on the ground? Or what about stabbing them, and watching a crimson fountain erupt from their corpse?

How about getting crushed by an evil swamp creature's tendrils or fried by an angry dragon? But the one on one confrontations with other knights were Moonstone's best feature, as blood would be everywhere, and it didn't dissappear! Methinks there was also a finishing decapitation move in these situations, also.:cool :kill

Ok, I have added a few :) My vote goes for Moonstone, I loved the screams of the beasts you slayed (specially those little furry critters... :D)

Drake1009
08 August 2001, 18:54
yeah, those small things were funny to kill. I didn't like the swamp thing though. I really didn't like the way it would drag you down if you weren't fast.

Yes it did. Unfortunately it still refuses to play on my A1200 except in rare cases, and Winfellow doesn't seem to happy about it, and WinUAE doesn't run well for me with sound (OR without for that matter) so I've been forced to play the PC version though I might as well be playing without sound, the sound there is horrible:( As a result of the limitation of play possibilities I've never managed to get enough experience with playing the game to find a way to kill the dragon either.

Oh, that bloody dragon! By PURE CHANCE, I killed it once. I got just in front of his ugly mug and made many holes in his chin, or something like that :) He just died!

Never again I managed to do it, so I Suppose it was either pure luck or a bug.

I have a friend who was able to kill the dragon with less problems than if two of those guys with spears were attacking him at the same time. He'd just waltz up to it and poke it like you described. He even showed me how do do it, but it didn't help. Everytime I've tried to mimic his attack I'd get kicked and then burned.

I killed the dragon once- but I lost many lives in the process:kill There is a puzzle solution to it but I can't remember what it was.

I managed to complete the game but it corrupted soon after:crying

It's a bit shitty that you can't change your vote. I only voted for Barbarian because Moonstone wasn't on the list at the time.

So when you're looking at the votes, take 1 off Barbarian and add it onto Moonstone... Which makes it 6 - 5 to Barbarian.

//RCK: you wish have been granted :)

Well I don't recall even voting..maybe Akira , you can include Texas Chainsaw in there.

11 August 2001, 00:44
Yeahh...Immortal...do you guys remember the controversy in the USA about the immortal? I had to go to several stores to finally find the Genesis version..many would not sell it!
One of my all time fave games..screenshots coming up once I get home!

RCK..please..grant my wish too, in re: Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I know its a PD game, but....

but what the poll are going to look like of everyone add this little favourite title hum ?

Thank you RCK. You make a very good point. I remember my Flight sim poll was originally 6 choices, it became nearly 20!!:)

11 August 2001, 05:43
Personally, I think Lemmings should be included in the poll. The lemmings fall, make a frank "I am dead" last gasp for life(Sounds like 'guh'), and gore splatters... albiet briefly.

Hit the nuke button and they all grasp their green-pated heads like someone punched in the Omega code and they explode like a gay pride bumper sticker as to make Bruce Vilanche happy (Or Liberace happy, to throw Fred a nod)

They hit a deadly obstacle and thgeir little lemming guts spray like they were being shot from a perfume atomizer. Lava? Don't get me started on the lava. The only thing missing is a lemming skeleton floating to the top of the magma.

Prince of Persia is another unglorified gory game. In fact, I used to play it just to see the many faces of death for the prince. Stabbed to death, liquified from a fall, impaled on spikes or crushed from above, Jordan Mechner knows all the good ways to die (except for the ways illustrated in the critically overrated Last Express.)

That's why I always start polls WITHOUT options. Perhaps an option to post a generic poll without options could be added?

MUZKAT!!! Same thing happened to me! WTF is wrong with the game? Crack's fault perhaps?

Drake1009
12 August 2001, 21:54
How do you mean corrupted? Because my problems with running this game looks a lot like a corrupt disk or something like that. It will load and then the screen will mess up or it will Guru. I know the game works at times though as I could write the game to some disks and then play it 2 or maybe 3 times without problems, then all of a sudden it'd just stop working.

Could be the crack fault, but wouldn't that mean that the game would also cease to work under emulation? I've been able to play it plenty of times under WinUAE from the same disk images.

Muzkat
13 August 2001, 00:45
I never played the game on UAE- I played it on my old Amiga 500 aeons ago. I completed it, and the next time I tried to play it, disk 1 out of 3 just din't go anywhere.:sad I didn't guru or anything, it just loaded a bit, then stopped.

Something wrong with the crack? Hmmmm- Akira, there was in the game this mad wizard who lived in a tower, I think. I could never visit him, though, because an error or something would happen when I tried. Luckily, you didn't have to visit this wizard to complete the game.

Did the same happen to you?

Akira
13 August 2001, 20:37
Not with the wizard. I could visit him and he would give me health the first time, and turn me onto a frog teh second time. But exactly the same happeend to me after I 'finished' the game, it just entered that 'diskloop'

Akira

But if they play with the Amiga, they would be playing with a 'dead' system. So that means they don't have to play with the Amiga? :)

My own vote was for "Barbarian", because of all the fun my brother and I had with this game, both on the C64 and the Amiga (and I still have the latter version, complete with the "Maria Wee-taker" poster !).

I'd say "Fright Night" was kind of gory too...
