Are there any scoring differences between the normal and CD³² version ?

I asked this some weeks back in preparation for this game cropping up and the differences between the two versions are purely cosmetic. I played the CD32 version myself.

There appears to be a pretty big problem with the linked ADFs in this thread - they crash during the underwater levels. So I would advise anybody using these to stop and try some others before it gets painful.
If anybody finds some working ones can you please post them here so we can get the links updated, thanks!

I actually consider this to be a pretty poor performance for me, as my previous HS was over one million.
also (quoted from Predseda on the LA forum, but I'm not going to sign up there just to make one lame post)
I found several warps, but they only confuse me and I think it is better not to use them, at least in hunt for points playing.
This is not true, for example there's an additional 20-50k points to be had on the bonus level in the icy world, a couple of treasure chests in highland levels, and I could go on. Although I would agree that the warps which skip levels should be avoided, these only make up a very small number of all the warps available.

Don't make the power block appear until after you have got all the parts of the key and killed the thing in front of the exit and taken the little coyote there to get the extra life. Avoid the falling snow when trying to kill the thing.

The furthest I have go so far is the first level of the temple.
The furthest I have gotten during this competition is also the first level of the fire temple. The furthest I have gotten ever is the third (last) level of the temple. Killed by the second boss-type guy.
Previously I would not have bothered entering every bonus section, but during this competition I use most of them.
I could not possibly use them all, as, for example. In underwater world level 3 there are two secrets to choose from, taking one makes the other unavalable.
I would recommend taking the one in the lower left-of the level, and from there take the exit warp at the upper-right (there are two exit-warps in that section too), which takes you back to the point where you entered, except all the bonuses and baddies have returned.
And judging by the game maps, there are a couple of similar situations in the temple also. Where there is two warps, and taking one makes the other unavailable.
Personally I find the underwater levels particularly tedious, an ordeal that has to be endured in order to get to the rest of the game. So I didn't go to the efort of clearing out that level before taking the warp.
The thing that I find makes the biggest difference to the score is collecting extra lives, or rescuing puppies when one has a full compliment of lives (nine). These are worth an extra 10,000 points each.
Also, don't be too picky when it comes to picking up special weapons, as those are worth 250 points each. Which is as many points as one gets for killing the average baddie.

I had never made it passed the last underwater level before this competition started.

That is the way I go I didn't know about the exit at the upper left in the secret level until about my fourth time, I accidentally jumped into it and it took me to the next level.
Personally I find the underwater levels particularly tedious, an ordeal that has to be endured in order to get to the rest of the game. So I didn't go to the effort of clearing out that level before taking the warp.
I always jump up into a stupid fish, stupid squid or fall down on a stupid crab and lose like 5-8 lives on that world
The thing that I find makes the biggest difference to the score is collecting extra lives, or rescuing puppies when one has a full compliment of lives (nine). These are worth an extra 10,000 points each.
I thought something like that happened. One time I had completed the same percentage of levels but was 100,000 below the score I had had previously as I sucked in the castle levels, I lost like 3 lives in a row by jumping into arrows. I will have to go slower in all the levels

Hey guys, for some reason this game crashes for me once I finish the 1st stage of the underwater levels. In Winuaex (xbox) the screen goes black (but sound and controls still work). On the pc version, it gives an error message (software failure). I'm pretty new to this site and to winuae. Do I need to use the files in the WHDload package. If so, how do I use them? What config settings should I use? Is quickstart 3.0 ok?

I think you're right. Could have scored a lot higher if I hadn't died so often in the underwater world. Those confusing warps everywhere didn't help either.
But please abstain from playing with trainer in the future - even for testing purposes. We agreed to not practice later parts of a game using trainer and/or savestates.
(Someone with a real Amiga and an original copy of the game would be at a severe disadvantage if it was allowed.)

I only played it up to the end of the last under water level to keep 9 lives. I wasn't sure if the reason I got such a high score was a glitch in the crack version I was using, Fire & Ice - The Daring Adventures of Cool Coyote (1992)(Renegade)[cr FSN][t +1 FSN](Disk 1 of 2).adf with Fire & Ice - The Daring Adventures of Cool Coyote (1992)(Renegade)[cr FSN][t M ATX](Disk 2 of 2).adf, because I didn't know where all the points came from. If I couldn't get the score with the trainer on I was going to ask to have that score removed and replaced with my next highest which was 553,700 66% to the first level of the temple.
The reason I am not using Fire & Ice - The Daring Adventures of Cool Coyote (1992)(Renegade)[cr FSN][t M ATX](Disk 1 of 2).adf with Fire & Ice - The Daring Adventures of Cool Coyote (1992)(Renegade)[cr FSN][t M ATX](Disk 2 of 2).adf is I didn't like all the options it gives you at the start and I didn't want to accidentally to enable any of the cheats to make the game easier.
But I do see how it is unfair on people using the original. Won't do it again.

I had doubts myself when I had 400k+ in the underwater world the first time. But then figured not dying must've been the reason.

No problem - the rules above don't clearly state that it's not allowed and practicing is not cheating.
In my first season I practiced a few games myself until we all agreed to not do it.

Sure many aren't aware of this gameplay mechanic (I didn't know until I've read the manual): leading puppies to the exit yields an extra life.
Do this and the game becomes a lot easier.
The maximum lives count is 9. When you have 9 lives every additional extra life and saved puppy is worth 10k. Also every emerald in the underwater world will be worth 10k (or is it 8k?) as long as you have 9 lives.

Before reading the manual I thought there was only one puppy which was just your drone which - due to bad programming - wouldn't follow you around too well and thus would often get lost and later randomly reappear at certain locations...

I thought you must be able to pause the game and escape back to the menu. I tend to squeeze my joystick and then throw it across the room when I lose a life on the first 2 worlds. Resetting the A500 and waiting for it to load is supposed to allow me time to calm down.

Heh, that happened to me once on the underwater levels too, although in a different spot. It's nowhere near as big a problem as it was when we were playing Assassin SE, got stuck in walls, fell through floors to my death, etc. quite a bit in that one.

I lost my first life on the first underwater level. I got the life back at the end of the level. I lost my next life in the secret level from the second underwater level. I got that life back on the third underwater level, so I had 9 lives again and the jewels didn't go back to equaling heaps of points until halfway through the last underwater level, I was only getting 200 or 300 points per jewel, so I only had about 650,000 when I finished the last underwater level. I got the most of the rest of the points after that point from beating the boss from the first temple level. I had 9 lives when I started the level in the temple. It was only my second time trying to beat the boss. I had 5 lives when I started trying to defeat it and had no lives spare when I defeated it. After beating the boss you get taken back to the first level in the temple and I didn't make it to the exit.
I guess the scoring isn't as simple as have 9 lives in the underwater world and the jewels are worth heaps of points.

I don't know why but very, very rarely I got 2 lives in the first level after collecting the 1up-bone and jumping down to the coins. My score is at 14k at that time so it's not the 20k bonus and not a saved puppy...

Thank you but I have not succeeded the first 3 worlds without losing a life like you. This requires an extreme concentration, therefore your score is more impressive imho !
Otherwise for the 5th life in the 1st level, I noticed that too and yes it's very rare. Perhaps we must collect the coins in a certain order !?
I will play today if I have time, I really want to see the end. I reached the third stage of the temple (80% with a crappy score), but I lost 4 lifes in 5s from the start, the game becomes very hard...

The falling snow annoys me sometimes because I am jumping up the hill (4th level) and I can't see it coming and I am in mid jump so I cant avoid it. Same goes with the bird eggs. But once you play it enough you know where the enemies are supposed to appear and know if they don't appear.

On the first level I get 3 extra lives, the two puppies and the 1up bone = total of 5 lives but sometimes on the 2nd level I kill some enemies at the start to get the bonus life for 20,000 points and then go back for the 1up bone and after I have gotten the bonus life and after I have gotten the 1up bone I have noticed sometimes I have 8 lives, (5+2=7), I also think I have seen the extra life in the lives panel before I have gotten the 1up bone, so one life appears from nowhere but it doesn't happen very often.
I was going to post a new score I was doing so well I was in the second underwater level and I walked into a fish, I had been passed that part of the level like 10 times and it wasn't there before. Then when I got to the 1st level in the temple and lost all 9 lives before reaching the boss. So I didn't beat my previous attempt.

Sometimes, when you start a new level, you can hear a sound (before the level even appears). This is the same sound when you get the extra life. I don't know what triggers it but maybe there are some conditions which are filled and this is a reward?

I don't play with the sound on, I watch TV at the same time, so I haven't noticed that. Maybe the game feels sorry for you and gives you an extra life on your somanyith playthrough

You place your computer screen near the TV screen. It is more play the game and listen to the TV, but if something interesting happens I might look at the TV.
