I’m looking for a point'n click adventure…lot of searching but no luck…please guys help me!
First of all forgive me for the lack of info on this game that I can share with you but my memory doesn’t help me at all about this one but let’s proceed:

1 – the game was surely released in 1988-1989 as I clearly remember I found it in a pack of disks along with Shogun, Journey, Uninvited, Dungeon Master and others…

2 – controls and gameplay reminds me action-adventures like The Adventures of Maddog Williams but the guy you control moves only horizontally (left and right…at least in the game locations I remember).

3 – absolutely no scrolling effects…like for ex. Future Wars…

4 – gameplay was definitely outdoors (plains, bridges, waterfalls etc…at least at the beginning…)

5 – I don’t exactly remember the game interface…it could possibly be classic like Maniac Mansion/Zak Mackracken etc…(open-close-get-examine-pull-push) or an object interface where you select the one to use in a proper situation.

6 – I could be wrong but as I remember the objects you can collect to progress in the game were some visible others invisible (IE you have to point the mouse over it to find it).

7 – I can’t describe exactly the game locations but I clearly remember that at the beginning of the game if you continue to go east (or west?!) you end up in a bucolic location…a beautiful waterfall with pixels changing colours to simulate the waterflow…near the waterfall there was an hidden object…

8 – maybe you can interact with other people to obtain more objects

9 – beautiful graphics

10- I have downloaded over 2000 games to find this one…no luck!…

11- while searching for this game some keywords were in my mind “Legend” “Faery” and “Tale”…I don’t know why…maybe the game has one of these words in the title but I could be completely wrong…

Thanks for your help in advance…

Is it any of these?

Barbarian 1 (Psygnosis)
Colorado
Crossbow
Gold Of The Aztecs
Journey To The Center Of The Earth (Spanish)
Targhan
Time Machine

fedegaia

it's not one of those......i've examined over 2500 games...it's not so common...

p.s. Crossbow?!!?...is it the Legend of William Tell...?

I'm currently going through the old mags I've got which haven't gotten lost. I remember in the cheats section a game which, from the description, could be the game you were talking about (something about a waterfall and a hidden object). I hope that's one of the mags I still have.

One thing I'd like to know though. Could you interact with people in the game? (Something which sounds a bit like a game like that would be the cheat for Knightmare, "Get the shovel from the old man on first screen, go to another screen, dig a hole and jump in it")

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 01:41
as i said at point 8 of my game's description i seem to remember you can iteract with other people to obtain more objects but memory doesn't help me...txs for your help...i desperately need that game!

p.s. if i remember anything else about the game that can be useful i'll immediately add other informations...

Hey, maybe that shitgame 'Astate' ?
The only good thing in that game is the grafics, and ther is one picture with a waterfall and there are also lots of hidden objcts.
I fact all objects are hidden and have to be revealed by digging and drilling.

Well I'm done going over my magazines. Only 3 seem to have survirved and those didn't have the cheats I wanted to find. Sorry. I don't know about knightmare though. Talking about first and 2nd screen sounds like a 2D game, but the only version of knightmare I've been able to find is a 3D adventure game in the style of EOB.

Anyone know if there is indeed a man to talk to in that version and I've just completely misunderstood the walkthrough, or if there's a different non-tosec knightmare around?

Have you tried:
Spirit of Excalibur
Jinxter

Edit: or Hero's Quest (aka Quest For Glory I) from Sierra

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 02:03
@twistin

none of them unfortunately...
the controls of the game looks similar to Spirit of Excalibur 'cause persons move only horizontally but the main character is a simple man and the game is prior 1991 (1988 or 1989)

jinxter is a text based adventure...isn't it?...if so it doesn't fit...

@Overdoc...i'll try the game but it's from 1990...not 1988-89

@drake1009...txs man anyway!

What about Alternate Reality: The City?

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 02:11
well...it's definitely not an rpg game...it's an action-adventure like future wars - maddog williams etc...gameplay is not in a city nor in a dungeon...game enviroment is bucolic with trees plains and waterfalls...at least at the beginning of the game...

Twistin'Ghost
22 July 2002, 02:28
Jinxter was text + graphics. Give it a try.

Edit: never mind. The screens were static.

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 02:33
Yes...sorry Twistin'...it's true Jinxter is a text plus graphics adventure...i've tried it along with the pawn - corruption - fish etc...but it's not the type of game i'm looking for...

anyway Jinxter is an EXCELLENT adventure game!...

And I assume you've tried all of the obvious stuff (like the games in TOSEC). I was gonna suggest King's Quest IV, but it seems you must have tried all of the obvious titles like this.

Akira
22 July 2002, 05:05
I was going to suggest King's Quest II myself.

Kodoichi
22 July 2002, 08:04
Maya, Prison?

*shrugs*

Overdoc
22 July 2002, 11:26
Or maybe 'Tusker' or 'Time Machine' ?
I think these were made in the area around 89/90.

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 11:41
@Kodoichi
txs for the suggestions but Maya's graphic style differs a lot from the game i'm looking for...you can't enter shops or something similar and gameplay time is not modern (no cars...etc......maybe mediaval...or something similar to "War in middle earth"...not completely sure).
"Prison"'s enviroment is postmodern and gore...completely different...

@Akira and Twistin'
the game i'm looking for has better graphics than "King's quest II and III"...looks more similar to King's quest IV but i can assure you it's not among these...i know Sierra games and many other great adventure games too well to be so easely decived...
when i downloaded "The Adventure of Maddog Willams" for the first time i said "i got it!"...but i was completely wrong...but the game graphics look similar to this one.

@Overdoc...i've tried "Astate" but the one i'm loooking for is not so shitty... ;)

fedegaia
22 July 2002, 11:46
txs man but Tusker is too action type...and Time machine is a bit too surreal...remember no modern or postmodern characters and enviroments...

please continue to give me suggestions...I NEED TO FIND IT!...txs a lot to all!

fedegaia
23 July 2002, 21:52
Come on guys....no one wants to help me?... :sad

Akira
23 July 2002, 23:16
I'm out of options really.. have you tried the Dylan Dog games?

fedegaia
23 July 2002, 23:36
yes...not one of those... :(

damn...through emulation i've found all the games i once had on my real Amiga MINUS this one...it's a bit frustrating you know...

anyway txs for your help...every suggestion is welcome...

Overdoc
24 July 2002, 00:27
Hmm, as far as I understand your game is more a point'n click adventure than a action adventure. I mean it is a game where you control your character by mouse and not by joystick, right ? And there are no levels but it goes continuously, right ?
Also, do you remember how many disks it had ? Or perhaps how the titlescreen or intro looked like ?

If it really was an action adventure where you take control by joystick then I would probably know it since this type of games is my favourite genre :)

Akira
24 July 2002, 00:37
YEs, I didnt get that part clearly myself. Would also help if you remember how the main character looked like. I was also going to suggest Spirit of Excalibur (1990 on my books), but Twistin already mentioned it, so...

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 00:44
Yes...you are right...is more correct to call it a point'n click action-adventure as i'm almost sure the main character was controlled by mouse only...

how many disk...hard to remember : 2 disks maximum not more.

don't remember the intro or the titlescreen (and i think i have a very good memory!)

i'm making efforts to remember other locations of the game but it's a really hard task...

txs for your help Overdoc!

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 01:15
how the main character looks like?...as i remember it was an ordinary guy in ordinary clothes with no armour and weapons...

absolutely no levels...

looks somewhat similar to Spirit of Excalibur - Adventures of Maddog Williams - King's quest 4

i'm absolutely sure it was released prior 1990

ANOTHER LOCATION: green field with trees (and flowers?!)with a bridge in the center (wood or rock bridge?...mmhh)(flat or curved?!!)...the main character can cross the bridge easely to go to another location (probably the waterfall one)

andreas
24 July 2002, 01:26
I had such a thing on the PC back then. (about 1990)

It was called HUGO's House Of Horrors. It was shareware, but not restricted ;)
There were three parts. The gameplay was a lot sierra like, including a meadow teemed with killer-bees you had to cross, and there was a sex-possessed gardener whom you had to brush off by eating GARLIC (yuck!):laughing
Funny one.
There was also a bridge I remember where you could lose your matches and make them fall on the ground in case you had stumbled, making the episode unsolvable because of the necessity to keep the matches DRY till the end.
But an AMIGA game? :confused

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 01:37
ah ah...very funny indeed!

to make things a bit more clear there were no living characters in the game except the guy you control and other people you meet to exchange object or to talk...(at least at the beginning of the game)...

not more than 2 persons in a single location as i remember (main character included)...the others npc stand still or walk left and right until you decide to talk to them.
interaction was very weak...

no fights at all...

I think, I just might be looking for this very game, I had the original box and all but can't for the life of me remember the title. The box cover art was of a large metal gate (with possible castle in the background?), the sprite of the main character also pictured.

The game had similar feel to the sierra adventures, similar controls, arrow keys for straight movement, cursor to move to a select spot, for all I know it could have been a sierra game, though it's not Kings Quest. I believe you could type in things, actions to perform, although I'm not 100% sure on this.

At the beginning you could pick from three classes, Fighter, Thief (or was it Rogue?) and Mage in that order. After briefly playing the game with each class I found that the Thief had the ability to assume all three classes simultaneously.

Some things I remember were; breaking into some ones house stealing stuff, being extra careful not to get caught; getting a job raking leaves?; buying items from a store; gambling at the thieves guild; and running a maze (as an initiation task?) for this wizard.

The fight scenes might of only occurred later on in the game when venturing through the wilderness (dense forest with trees n crap) screens which was quite easy to get lost in. Fighting (combat it may have been called) consisted of a black screen with a large image of the enemy at the top and any weapon or shield you may have equipped at the very bottom.

I remember spending some time on this game, the end sequence was of you flying off on a magic carpet, it hinted at sequel, I was hoping to find it again to see if there really was one made.

Quest for Glory :)

Quest for Glory, you could be right, but why is the first one so difficult to find (it's not even in TOSEC)?

If someone has a copy, to the zone with it! :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, it's Hero Quest (aka Quest for Glory 1) as Twist mentioned in one of his posts.

Walker
24 July 2002, 10:43
It's in TOSEC under the original name "Hero's Quest". Sierra changed it to Quest For Glory later.

§ane

Thanks Walker. I went over all the titles, when it came to "Hero's Quest" the first thing that came to mind was the RPG by Gremlin evidently called "Hero Quest".

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 11:40
txs for your help Sane but it's not that...

2 disks max (Hero's quest I has 5)

no r.p.g. elements: you can't choose the character class

no score points like Sierra games

interaction and dialogues were more primitives...

Have you gone through the listings at Adventureland (http://www.lysator.liu.se/adventure/machines/Amiga.html)?

fedegaia

Twistin'Ghost

Almost all of them!

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 14:52
to give you a visual reference of the "Waterfall scene" i described above i attack this screenshot taken from Code name Hell Squad...

a few corrections: you have to add more water to the waterfall - take away that wall - screen is not static (waterfall pixels change colours to simulate water flow) - main character clothes are different and he walks only left and right...

of course the graphic was less deteiled...

Overdoc
24 July 2002, 16:17
Hey, is that 'Hellsquad' an Amiga game ?
Looks pretty cool !!
Any chance you could upload it to the zone ?

Thanks !

fedegaia
24 July 2002, 16:28
yes!...the game looks cool!...but it's too new...

Code name Hell Squad (2000)(digital dreams entertainment)

i only used a screenshot of it taken from BTTR GAMES PICS ARCHIVE...i do not own the game...

After checking all adventure games listed in AMIGA ADVENTURELAND only a few could be the one i'm looking for (if it's in that list):

Dargon Attack - Coktel Vision (probably not)

Ice and Fire - company and year unknown

Les Portes du temps - 1988 Legend Software (maybe...)

Sanctuary - Lifestyle

The Crime of music - Volker Lanz (probably not)

Xaram - Silverbyte

well...it seems that the waterfall scene of the game i'm looking for has been used in several games...
look for a scene similar to this one and to the one of Hell Squad previously posted (EVEN MORE FAITHFUL) and you'll probably find that adventure game.

p.s. take away the snow and that cauldron to make it more like that(season was surely spring) - main character wears clothes and it holds no weapon

Walker

Yup. waterfalls are popular....

fedegaia
25 July 2002, 13:13
eh eh...you are right Walker...as you are the HOL Screen machine you have probably seen the one i'm looking for... ;)

p.s. waterfall stands out frontally - it's more beautiful and bigger...

p.p.s. what's the title of that game?!

If you mean the game above, that screen is from "Armaeth - The Lost Kingdom" (PC only, I think).

Not only have I seen a lot of games when grabbing screenshots, I also played a lot of adventure games on my Miggy back in the old days. This one is a real mystery, though.

I used to love these Leisure Suit Larry 3 style of graphics on the Amiga. They arent the most detailed in the world, but something about them i just cant put my finger on.
