Just a quick hello from me. I was 15 or 16 when I 'upgraded' from an Atari ST to a Commodore A500. I hadn't thought about it for years (blasphemy, I know) until I ran across the latest (2.2) version of WinUAE and it all came flooding back. Can you believe it, almost 20 years after I got rid of my Amiga I am trying to learn how the program the 680x0 and the various custom chips and do you know what? It's much more compelling than I thought it would be.

Hi CmdrVimes, and welcome to EAB! :)

Can you believe it, almost 20 years after I got rid of my Amiga I am trying to learn how the program the 680x0 and the various custom chips and do you know what? It's much more compelling than I thought it would be.

Didn't you realize that EAB is full of members, just like yourself, who are also trying to come to terms with this compulsion? ;)

Happy programming! :guru

Welcome back into the fold, CmdrVimes! It's great to have another returning Amiga user, especially one willing to use it creatively and productively!

@prowler
No, I had no idea that the Amiga scene would still have so many active members!

@kriz
I'm not sure about fun but it's interesting. It might be fun later - when I'm a bit more sure about what I'm doing!

@Cammy
Creatively and productively might be a bit strong. Just getting it to do something, anything would be a start.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for a nice welcome. I have a full time job and a young family so posts may be sporadic but I'll try and keep up.

@ck1200
Thanks for the welcome.

What are everyone's interests in the Amiga? Are we talking Coding? Games? or just General Interest?

I'm not 100% sure why I'm here yet. I have started with ASM code and will see where that takes me.

Hey CmdrVimes :)

The description in your first post in this thread was basically where I was about three or so years ago now.

I loved my Amiga when I was a kid but hadn't used one or thought about one for years and years until I stumbled across WinUAE and got hooked again.

I'd always loved demos and was in awe of the coders and what they could do so when I got back into Amiga I decided that what I wanted to do was code some demo type stuff and that's what I've been doing (time permitting...) ever since.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your first production! :)

THis Amiga obsession really grabs you by the balls. I've only been back into it for about 2 weeks and i've already blown almost £300. Good job my wife is understanding.

Nice to hear from another person in a similar position. ;)

Jeez! What on ?

Can you still get Amiga hardware? I'm using WinUAE.
