Finishes: 23:59 July 31
Rules
Post screenshots of your scores in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.
All three tables will be played and all three scores will be added together to make your total score (it would be helpful if you could work this out yourself in your post).
No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. No continues/passwords allowed. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM me, Biscuit or mihcael and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.
Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your team for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.
Remember, anyone can join in at any time. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I haven't played this game too often. It's good but it doesn't really grab me in the same way as Fantasies and Slam Tilt.

This game should not have been released in the state it is available. It is full of bugs and apparently it was not properly tested. The most bugged table is the second one. The ball can sometimes fall into a trap on the left which makes the game to crash but the most annoying thing is that if you are during the race combo and you get the multiball, you got screwed completely because the multiball is not enabled and when the race combo is finished no other combos can be activated till the end of the play (not the ball)! I do not mention the bug with lack of automatic change of the resolution when you are in multiball mode. It happens on every table...

I am not sure Mailman, i am not disputing what you are saying as i am sure it happens, but when the game first game out (as much as i am not a Pinball fan) i played this game to death and never had any of the problems you mention!? Could it just be a bad version you are playing?

I tried different versions: original for AGA, CD32, cracked ones. Each time the bugs are the same. In the past I also played this game a lot and made some huge scores but they were just pure luck. I am a hardcore pinball fan and I always considered Pinball Illusions as being published too early...
Blade, are you saying that your version automatically switches the resolution in multiball mode?

15 July 2010, 13:08
Well yes, my floppy version did :) If i find time during the weekend i will try and fish it out of my disk collection and see if i can make ADF's from it, but i will need to see if all the disks are still ok of course ;)

I had an (original) floppy disk version of Pinball Illusions back in the day - my Mum was/is a HUGE pinball fan, so we bought them all - and I can confirm that the screen did indeed automatically switch between lo-res and hi-res graphic modes when multiball was activated. I think you could also manually change modes with one of the 'F' keys (F9 or F10 maybe?)...
I specifically remember this resolution switching as our ancient Phillips monitor used to make a buzzing noise when it changed over and the first time my Mum activated Multiball mode, she thought she'd broken something!!! Bless!
Sadly, I no longer have these disks as my Dad gave all our Amiga stuff away some years ago, but I hope this gives you some hope Mailman...? Maybe Blade will find his disks and you'll be able to play it properly after all this time.

On the WHD install on KG's site you have to do it manually also. I don't find it a massive problem but it's a bit sloppy and inconvenient at times.

No luck, disk 1 worked at first and got to the bit where all the donuts are spinning around in a dance then i pressed F1 to load a table only to find that it asked for disk 2 and that disk is completely stuffed! (mind you, i could only find disks 1, 2 & 4), so i then i tried to reload disk 1 in an effort to choose a different table that may ask for disk 4 but to no avail because disk 1 then developed a bad block :(
Sorry Mailman, these disks are old and i was hoping they would still be ok, but alas they are not. But i KNOW there is a version out there that does everything it is supposed to! I "had" that version but i do no longer.

Not everyone. I discovered that playing in hi-res the ball acts more naturally. When playing in lo-res I am sometimes able to shoot the ball to the back of the flipper which in natural conditions is not even close to be possible.

I just can't get a big score on Extreme Sports table. I think there may be a problem with the version I am using, even though it is the same one posted in the top of the thread.
Whenever I activate the Extreme Feature, the feature runs out of time very fast. I think I remember the few times I played this table years ago that you keep hitting ramps and the sport moves up from dull ones like chess and bowling to extreme ones like bungee jumping (I can't remember an actual one). But using this version I find even if I hit the ramps with regularity, I only get up to the fourth or five sport before the feature ends. I am sure I have also had ~30 seconds remaining before and have had the feature suddenly end abruptly for no reason I can work out. Has anyone else had this? How is that feature supposed to work? You get 30 seconds don't you? Is there a reason the time would run out faster than that?
Edit: It's just happened again. I have 30 seconds left, I hit a ramp, and then I only have 5 seconds left which makes it impossible. I have a savestate proving this...

Are you using the ADFs? If so I've no idea if there are problems with them or not - I only really test them to make sure they actually load, it's not really feasible for me to check if the games work without bugs and so on, particularly for a game I don't know very much about - so I wouldn't necessarily assume that the version linked to in this thread is a fully-working copy.

23 July 2010, 13:08
Yes, the ADFs from the first post. Can anyone else confirm they have had this happen?
I've never been able to get hard drives/WHDLoad to work on WinUAE, although I'll be having a go over the summer so I can play some of these Chaos Constructed Levels.

After meaning to do so all week, I finally got around to checking the Pinball Illusions ADFs that I have on my Xbox...
I am utterly useless at this game, so won't even think about posting my scores(!) but I did eventually manage to activate multiball (on the Babewatch table) and Hi-res mode activated all by itself - just as I remember all those years ago! What it did NOT do however, was switch back to lo-res mode once multiball was over (very quickly).
Initially I was going to post this for Mailman and Blade (re comments made earlier in this post), but reading that capehorn is struggling with his version of the ADFs I thought this may be of interest to others too?
I have no idea what 'set' of disc these are, as the Xbox cannot cope with long filenames and so these would've been renamed (possibly by me) some years ago (sorry).
This is what I do know though:
There are 4 ADFs - called Pillus-1, Pillus-2, Pillus-3 & Pillus-4.
They initially load up a cracking screen/intro by Paradox.
The game runs at 50fps (PAL?) - Don't know if this is relevant or not?
I am more than happy to upload these if anyone thinks they may be rare/unusual, although I realise that this is highly unlikely.

Thankfully this scenario didn't arise once more but I don't think deliberately holding back scores in that way is particularly sporting and that sort of thing hasn't gone down well in the past.
