Rules

Post screenshots of your scores in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame. Set continues to zero.

No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. No continues/passwords allowed. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM me, Biscuit or mihcael and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.

Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your team for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.

Remember, anyone can join in at any time. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Good fun. But a lot of luck involved because of the bonus blocks.

Play on the default settings.I suggest to set continues to 0 so you won't get the continue-screen.

Fair enough.

I only put that bit in because I haven't played it in ages and couldn't remember what the options were :nervous

Bah, as soon as I'm not voting anymore a Tetris game is in the Super League! That's not fair! :p
Think I must at least give this one a shot.

That's a good reason to give our best. :great

I see you're using black scanlines. Did you know you can make the scanlines transparent?

Just set "scanline transparency" to 25 (meaning the lines will be 75% transparent):

And the result looks more "genuine" (thanks @Retro-Nerd for making me realize this):

I completed the game :o
This tetris is too easy and too wimpy/soft.
But the end (the picture) is...uh...surprising :laughing

I can reach 9,999,999 but I stopped to 1,000,000 because it was getting boring...
The scoring is not good for our contest (imho), at least for the best players.
Just before reaching the last level, don't assemble the 4 lines requested, it's the key.
In fact, if you want to make a mega score, don't complete the game !
Ok, i know, you must be capable to survive but it's possible with a good attention.
Anyway the scoring system is idiot, a tetris (4 lines) should always give more points. In this game it's not the case. A simple square ($) provides 5 times more points than 4 lines, it's stupid because it's more difficult (and risky) to build 4 lines...

A simple square ($) provides 5 times more points than 4 lines, it's stupid because it's more difficult (and risky) to build 4 lines...In fact I've played this even riskier than standard Tetris before. In normal Tetris I always play on the right 9 columns and leave the column on the very left open to get "4 lines".
In this "Tetris Pro" I mostly only played on the right 8 columns and left the first two left columns open so I could always score with the $-blocks.

But that was indeed too risky to play that way. Now I just used all the 10 columns and got very far. Missed a lot of $-blocks but eventually scored higher. Probably lost the patience to get as far as Rex.

I also prefer standard Tetris. The best being Tetris for GameBoy in my opinion.

How to decide between us with this stupid scoring (after completing this game)?

Otherwise, the best version (by far) at the time was the arcade version (1988). I had a buddy in high school who was incredibly strong in this game :)
But the gameboy version was nice, I have played it many hours to see the various space shuttles ;)

How to decide between us with this stupid scoring (after completing this game)?I guess the one with the most endurance and most stable concentration wins. But breaking 1M takes a long time. I don't think I'll ever touch this game again should I get over 1M.

Btw, anyone know what the "R" powerup does?

john4p
30 March 2010, 09:57
We'll see if we can tickle the Graham's moustache in Atom Smasher :DYou certainly will. The game where you aren't able to compete for the win has yet to be created. ;)
But it's not gonna be easy since Graham's score is probably close to the max.

anyone know what the "R" powerup does?Reset. It puts the speed back to what it was at this stage's beginning. Also it'll show the next piece again if it didn't and if you were playing top-down that'll be reverted, too.

Graham Humphrey
30 March 2010, 12:23
Just a thought but wouldn't deliberately not completing four lines to reveal the pic and carrying on forever be technically score leeching? I'm not saying it is and going to disqualify everybody etc ;) it's a tricky one seeing as it is quite difficult, I guess, to play for score leeching in Tetris as all it takes is one undesirable piece to fall from the sky and you're screwed. And also it can be very hard to take out four lines at once anyway...

john4p
30 March 2010, 13:10
Yes, I thought about that, too. But as you have to stay focussed all the time I don't know if it should be considered score leeching.

You and Biscuit shall decide. Should you decide it is score leeching I would have to accept that the scores with 1000+ lines would be invalidated... :D ;)

john4p
31 March 2010, 11:38
This took a couple of hours. After I topped Rexsu's score I also still felt I could go on forever.
But I just didn't have the motivation to continue and quickly ended this:

Likewise !
But it's nice to read from the 2008 champion :)

For Tetris Pro, why not give 15 points to anyone who will send the beautiful last image ?

john4p
01 April 2010, 09:09
For Tetris Pro, why not give 15 points to anyone who will send the beautiful last image ?Agreed, that'd be fair. Any scores with 1000+ lines are kinda meaningless since there appear enough speed down-blocks to keep the speed down all the time and play relaxed (of course focussed) as long as you want to.

Likewise! No, I don't stand a chance in arcade shoot'em ups like Raiden, R-Type or Dangun Feveron...

capehorn

Is it just me or does this game ALWAYS give you the opposite tiles to the ones you want? I kept needing a line of four to complete a row but continually got squares. So I started building leaving 2x2 block to complete lines. I didn't get any squares and kept getting lines? Also you always seem to get the opposite L shape to the one you want.

Don't be disappointed, I think our scores (John4p and me) are similar to the leeching...
Therefore, as said earlier, I think we should give 15 points to everyone who completed the game.
Or cancel this round, in view of the limited success on this game !

Graham Humphrey
10 April 2010, 19:01
We can't cancel it. No point playing for three weeks and deciding it doesn't count. It hasn't been a great success but that happens sometimes.

mosfet
10 April 2010, 20:56
No, I don't have a problem with higher scores because that's what I was planning on doing anyway ;) I just thought it would end on a nice round number like L100 instead of L94

I wouldn't have got anywhere near the 1M+ scores, I was just hoping to protect 3rd place a bit more.

capehorn
10 April 2010, 21:59
Maybe we should have a new rule for the competition - during the first week of each round we can suggest methods of increasing your score openly on the thread, and if a mod deems any of them score leeching then those methods are banned. Then the score leeching rules will be clear for everyone, rather than each individual person deciding whether something is leeching or not. TBH, one of my methods on Atom Smasher may possibly qualify as leeching, but only on a very small scale.

Graham Humphrey
10 April 2010, 22:23
Hmm... to be honest the lines often get pretty blurred with what's score leeching and what isn't. I take a lot of responsibility for this one - I voted for it and just assumed it would be okay so hands up, it was my fault. It's not fair to punish others for my mistake. As footballers often say, we'll take each game as it comes ;)

If anybody does find a possible way to score leech in future then please post it and we'll make a decision. Very rarely is it black and white.

Graham Humphrey
11 April 2010, 01:01
And all over (I'm sure you're all pleased to hear).

john4p
11 April 2010, 10:49
In my opinion it would be fair to rate this game as a win for Rex, too, as the score at some point was kinda meaningless...

Predseda

I have found "v1.4 of Tetris Pro" on Aminet. Avoid it! The least challenging tetris of my life! Compared to it, the version we just played in the compo simply rocks!

Sorry for bumping this thread (I know the competition is over).

I just wonder how you complete the game. Do I need to get to level 99 or do I have play to the last picture? If so, how many pictures are there?
