Here is some shots of my A1200 s-video adapter by@amigamaniac connecting to small (but powerful) vga-box on my Dell 24" vga monitor .
(my camera is not so good),
the screen at Hires pal is very good,
also on super hires,(but there the fonts-letters has a little blur).
all systems is very stable, testing more than 1 hour..

Wow! Thanx for the shots.
Your svideo-VGA adapter looks to be much nicer than the one I'm using, which costs a few bucks more! :-( :-)
(more options/resolution modes)

How does yours handle PAL/NTSC swaps?

That looks great, does the VGA converter allow you to stretch and centre the Amiga image on the screen? One thing that annoys me about using LCDs with the S-Video adapter and the Indivision is it doesn't let me adjust the position or output resolution, causing many Amiga games and programs to have huge black borders around them.

Yes i test some NTSC games ,working perfect, this vga converter has auto pal/ntsc mode! just you must turn the button pal to ntsc on s-video adapter,! so.. no problem!

No,this vga converter cant do this, but you can fix that if your monitor support this setting. i know some LCD has fixed dimensions screen size, but some can change this, and lot of CRT monitor has this setting.

Is it possible to select a 50Hz mode in your converter?

oh WOW! That is FANTASTIC!

Is there anything special about the box you are using, or, is it just a standard video to VGA converter box??

Its very small ,and very cheap, :)
also..
one idea is,both s-video and vgabox boards, can be inside on A1200, ,i have a plan..but is not important for me right now.
and needed 6 holes for vga-box buttons ,and one more for pal/ntsc button.
inside 5v power must be coming from amiga power base plug ,need 1A and is dangerous to take from another point of A1200 board.

On a widescreen monitor, will it display the correct aspect ratio, or stretch the image?

Jope
20 January 2010, 10:17
It depends on the monitor. Cheap monitors might stretch, better ones allow you to select a variety of scaling modes from the menus.

What is the scrolling like? With it scan-rate converting from 50Hz to 75Hz I imagine it is quite jerky. Like running WinUAE.

Hey Anemos, I'm curious. Do you know what the maximum overscan your VGA adapter can display from the Amiga? Any idea if it will show a 720x576 PAL screen in 800x600 output?

Wow that is pretty amazing, I think once I get the S-Video card repaired will ordered one of those units, that is a really nice looking alternative to the indivision, thanks for showing it Anemos. Now gotta find a job so I can convince the wife to buy one lol

I really must insist that you stop posting links to sites that sell the "S-Video to VGA" adapter model that is better than the one I bought and less expensive..

Just ordered one of these units too, can`t wait to give it a try, will post the results with my monitor. :) Actually just a quick thought, I have an RGB to VGA adapter, would the VGA box accept a signal from the from RGB>VGA adapter instead of the S-Video signal?

Think I missed something here.

There is a VGA passthru, but..
The output of the RGB-VGA adapter is VGA.
You want to run that (VGA) into this adapter to get VGA out?

That`s right, I have a RGB>VGA cable adapter so I can plug in a VGA monitor directly to the Amiga, if I connect the VGA in on the scan-doubler will it work?

OH!!! Now I get it!!!

My guess is no, not for regular Amiga resolutions. I think the VGA passthru is expecting a true VGA signal, not a 15khz Amiga signal. It might work for the dbl modes tho.

But it would be a good test!!!

It won't touch the VGA signal, you can test it, but don't get your hopes up.

No, no working via Amiga RGB>VGA cable > VGA converter. (quaver -flashing screen)
Only via s-video > VGA converter.

I think they (japanese woman) are more assertive and probably less prone to emotional instability . But I have no first hand experience only my opinion as an observer .

Once your married and the kids are about , all you have left is to drink beer and reminisce on the good ole days :D

Im married 5 years with 3 kids :spin

Humm... do you know why I always get the picture in B/W? I'm using the adaptor from amigamaniac.com and this VGA converter... all the output singnal from the SVIDEO adapter are in B/W even I tried to change the PAL-NTSC switch...

I'm thinking that my RGB-SVIDEO convertor is faulty...using the Amiga composite output picture is colour and using the adaptor is always B/W.... :(

I had some similar issues, but not quite the same.
I had to add the jumper and twist the variable resistor (oooppps.. yeah, I mean trimming capacitor) on the amigamaniac adapter to get it to lock in properly. Otherwise, sometimes I'd switch between PAL/NTSC and the color wouldn't switch.
Once I adjusted it, I haven't had to adjust it since. So I don't have to keep adjusting it. Just the once, and it's happy now.

I have Indivision flickerfixers for A1200/4000. Ironically, I've never had any use so far with A4000 - because I prefer A1200’s smaller size for transport.

My beloved A2000 never received a proper solution.

And I like old Amiga games more then any AGA magic - any day. I was hoping to find economical solution for A2000, but I guess - this otherwise great little box - wont help me to bring A2000 on one of my LCD monitors? :(

Or it will, but at the expense or the very poor picture?
