Adding Sims to A1200

I was wondering if i could change the sims in my Amigas Accelerator..?

It is a 030 + FPU and has a 16 meg sim clipped in. There's only 1 sim slot.

Is it possible to change that sim for a 32 meg one..? as i have a 32 meg sim spare from my old PC...?

Yes. There are sometimes incompatability problems with certain 72-pin simms, but I have yet to find one that won't work.

Only way to find out - try it! :)

Yep, my Microbotics XA1230 has a 32 72-pin SIMM. Just try it out and see what happens!

Ok i will do :) one prob though it's a bit wider than my other one..? if u know what i mean not longer as it fits but i don't think i will be able to put the panel back on now :(

'Panel' being trapdoor panel on desktop A1200? Leave it off. No danger. As long as your Amiga is sitting on a desk, and not a carpeted floor, with a zillion volts of static electricity flowing through it.

Long term: Get that tower! You owe it to your Amiga.

Try to fit it, I think my cover is a bit pushed upwards but it still fits. And if it doesnt fit, leave it open as blackie says.

What accelerator do you have?

It's probs better to leave the cover off, and prop the 1200 up on a couple of books anyway, helps keep things cool and all thst ;)

I think it's a Blizzard i haven't checked yet.. I bought the Miggy as a complete package. :)

The Tower i def want.. as soon as money allows.

I use the "books" thing in summers. During the winter it's OK for me to leave it as it is.

Besides, as I said before, I hate having the machine all gutted. I want it to be looking nice! Yes I'm obsessive :D

I know what you mean, Bloodwych: the Amiga cases are badass indeed. But they are limited when it comes to expansion. I had a desktop A1200, which I was very happy with. But, along the way, I decided I needed a CD drive. And a 3.5" HD. And a gfx card. And an ethernet card. I got a tower, to accommodate these things.

An Amiga in a tower need not necessarily look like a PC. My Amiga looks like an Amiga. PCs do not hold a monopoly on tower cases. Even Commodore built the A3000T/A4000T.

I agree with Blood too. Only way I'd tower my Amiga would be if I have ANOTHER exact Amiga to use and have to look compact and megacool :)

My expansion needs are satisfied as they are, only thing I dont have is a CD ROM, I'll see what happens when I plan to add one.

Yeah I can understand why people do it, but it's just not for me. I wouldn't buy an A3000 either - the Amiga to me is a desktop machine pure and simple. I'm a purist - keyboard, drives and silicon in one beautiful package :) is the only way to go.

I'd say my opinion is due to all desktop machines having "character" (C64, MSX, Spectrum, CPC 464, Vic-20, Atari ST :shocked :) etc) and part of that character is the unique design of the case. It comes from having a childhood love affair with the A500 - a machine that's still my favourite looking computer of all time!

Now can you dig that, sucka? (only joking) ;)

Having said this, I'm sure it's a fun project and I'd probably consider it if I had a spare A1200 motherboard lying around like Akira suggested.

Akira, I bet you're on the look out for a squirrel device to add that CDROM! :) So am I.........................

I have a Squirrel devise but need the CDrom..

i remember there was a RENO cd drive i had one of those.. But is there any others i can get hold of..?

I actually would preffer getting a new accelerator that accepts a SCSI interface, so I can leave thePCMCIA port for Ethernet access...
