View Full Version : Strange Messages
Hi, got a strange problem here thats been worrying me, hope someone can help me out.
A game I bought from an online auction arrived today and since loading it up i have been getting the following message every so often:
-+= CHEATER HIJACKER =+- GENERATION: 0512
The message comes up like a guru meditiation error but in yellow and the Generation number changes every time. I have a bad feeling this is a virus, i hope im wrong! My Amiga is a 600 with 1MB of RAM if that helps
Thanks
Hmm, didn't see it listed on this page:

But perhaps it's an unknown virus, if it is that. Maybe somebody else has more info on this.

Guess it´s this one ;) http://home4.inet.tele.dk/vht-dk/amiga/desc/txt/lameblame-cheaterhi.htm
I love that name, LameBlame :D
I managed to find a virus checker on one of my AUI coverdisks. It reports the virus as the 'Taipan' virus. I am currently in the process of checking every disk i have used since the infection and repairing the boot lock. Is this alright or is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks for the help everyone. Dont know why these low lifes find pleasure in making these viruses????

Yep...most important thing of all: write protect your disks. Whenever I buy a game on ebay, it always makes me cringe when I open the boxes and find write enabled disks. That simply means you don't know what is on that disk. If it's possible to write to the disk, then it's probably not copy-protected and you should be using a backup only. If it is copy-protected, it's unlikely anything will need to write to that disk, so it should remain locked so nothing can write to it.
Thanks for the advice Twistin. I'll go through my collection and write protect everything. And I'll run a quick virus check on any games that I buy just to be sure. Thanks for the help.
