Hi guys!
Right I got a network going between an a1200 and a pc via ethernet using Genesis (NetconnectV2)
Now I want to be able to use the amiga to see pc's drives for file sharing. I have dabbled with SMB-Connect (not samba) and I dont know how to set it up right :(

I found Samba to be overly complicated and too slow to use. But, if you must go that path, the official Amiga Samba page (http://www.birrabrothers.com/tiger/data/samba/index.htm) has a pretty good install guide. I personally use Siamese System 2.5 which if you can find (v2.1 doesn't require the PC side dongle :rolleyes) is very easy to setup on both the PC and Amiga side, and seems to be very fast.

Setting up SMB-Connect isn´t that difficult, just modify your MOUNTLIST in DEVS: like this :
#
/* net drive handler */
SMB0:
Handler = L:SMB-Handler
Stacksize = 40000
Priority = 10
GlobVec = -1
Mount = 1
Startup = "C=\\COMPUTERNAME:192.168.0.1\SHARE_NAME MH=AMIGA W=WORKGROUP DN=BACKUP"
#
Be sure to change the IP and the Computername to fit your PC´s settings also the WORKGROUP ! DN is the name that will be displayed on Amiga side ..... now be sure SMB-Connect is correctly installed and type at CLI : "MOUNT SMB0:"
Thats it, now you can access your shared PC drives as Amiga HD´s :D

Sorry, didn't read close enough (thought Samba was mentioned not SMB-Connect).

I got mine 5+ years ago at Software Hut. It wasn't a bad price at the time and cost me ~$150 without the hardware switcher. Also, at the time Samba was just being ported to the Amiga and was very raw.
But, that is why I said "if" you can find it. It looks like HiQ is now gone. So, you might find it in old stock at a computer store, or perhaps you could find a less legal copy of 2.1 on the internet somewhere (if you do, I'd love to lose the PC dongle which effectively makes my PC an inch longer).

BTW, I'm going to try SMB-Connect this weekend and I'll let you know what I find out. It looks like technology has improved over the years.

It used to be available from Eagle Computer GmbH in Germany, but if they are still there I don't know. I got my 4000T from them in 97.
