can I continue up to two times(3 credits total)?
I guess default options that are used:lives,dificult...
TheCyberDruid
31 May 2009, 11:30
There are no options (lives, difficulty etc.), there are only coins ;) It's an arcade game, so you have to pay for your lives.
Your answer could cause confusion, so:
Only 1 credit allowed. No continues. (Dunno if you could continue in R-Type anyway...)
Probably 3 coins = 1 credit is the default setting. Dunno - mine was 1 coin = 1 credit. But I've set it to "freeplay" so I don't have to insert any coins...

I would guess it's a problem with an old MAME version. I use MAMEUI32 0.131u3 here and it works fine.

There are "options" in Arcade games i.e. Dip Switches :agree
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/107/rtypedipswitches.png (http://img189.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rtypedipswitches.png)
To access these press <tab> and then select Dip Switches...
...but of course we should leave these as default ;)

Is it possibel to set autofire in MAME?
Since holding down fire will load up your beam it's not very useful and like you can see in Damien screenshot there is no option for that.
mihcael
31 May 2009, 15:37
It would be very useful because i could play the game longer then 5 minutes :sad
I would configure it so i have 1 button which is autofire and 1 which is not!

It depends on which Mame Version you use. Mame Plus has an autofire option (TAB -> Autofire Setting)

Never played this on amiga, looked too hard!! (back in the day) Think i might enjoy this round a bit!
On the last day god created autofire, and it was good!
Is it possibel to set autofire in MAME?
Autofire is cheating.
Be a man and play like the game was meant to be.
DEFAULT OPTIONS
NO AUTOFIRE
NO CONTINUES
TheCyberDruid
01 June 2009, 08:07
Arcade games suck even more than consoles when it comes to these setting options :rolleyes Since you will use the setting regardless of what I say, it's now autofire time! Since there's no autofire power-up in the game we will have the same rule as the Super League. No autofire power-up = autofire allowed.
NO OTHER BUTCHERING WITH DIP SWITCHES OR WHATEVER ALLOWED!
@Akira
Wimps, aren't they? ;) I will still play it as if I would go to the arcades, throw in a coin and play till I'm busted :D

Im not 17 and i actually have a life, RSI or other injuries would cause me to miss work!
Its not cheating, its the smart way to do it! :great
Ther main issues with this game is you must continuusly press the fire button, you cant even hold it down for slow fire!

Me neither, so if I can't make it, tough shit, no score submitted, like if someone's gonna die for not participating...
Its not cheating, its the smart way to do it! :great
It is cheating.
Changing a game in any way to make it easier for the player is called cheating. The head of the competition has allowed your cheating, I am no one, just voicing my opinion.
The smart way to do anything is the right way, not the easy one ;)

Can we stop these tedious options discussions now please? I hope over time we can get all these things sorted (still first round on MAME) before we start a round. Btw : The rules linked in the first post say '...such as the banning of autofire if it is a power-up within the game'. So it was allowed without discussing it here anyway. Mainly pointed at Akira ;)
john4p
02 June 2009, 09:18
Quickly mashing the same button over and over again requires no skill. It's also healthy for neither your controller nor your sinews...
We're not playing for money here. The competitions should be fun. Of course every form of cheating is forbidden - except autofire which we had a poll about (14:1 votes for it I think).
I also don't think we should allow it for some platforms while not for others.

Less enemies in the C64 version :) Took me a few tries to adopt to the number of enemies, but still this is a piece of cake compared to Gigawing or Raiden (I really tried it... ;)). Looking forward to your first score mate :great

Man, I completely missed this round! XD I've been busy and tired with and from my new internship. Not had much time to do the tango with gaming.
For some reason I never seemed to get past more than a few seconds after beating the big swirly circle of round things on the first level...
