Doctors Report:::
Well the surgery has been completed, it was touch ang go for a second. But now she is doing well and speeding along at 106.14 Mips At 80 Mhz Stable! She was very brave, but she made it in the end !!!!
Doogy, You are now a proud father of an Apollo 1260, Look after her and keep her cool. Oh and dont forget to Install the correct drivers.
@Others Pron to follow soon.

<Hands the cigars out>
Is she running nice and cool?
Err No, not as cool as my own CPU. You will need a fan i think. But i have run her for half an hour and all is well with no fan.
On the other hand she is a lot cooler than the 040!
Also i put your 16 Mb sim in the second socket and it now has 48Mb ram and still working fine.
PS you need to change your sig
Excellent!
I must say to anyone reading this thread, Dimlow has sent me photo's of the whole process and the quality of his work is outstanding!
Pics! Pics! Pics! Pics! Pics! Pics! Pics! Pics!

DoogUK, you need to help me clean up!
Well actually, i just thought Zetro, since there is a naked Amiga 1200 with a 1260 in it, in that pic, you may think its beautiful!
well done!
what settings are you using on hot air station and how long it takes to heat up all solder points?
Oh i missed this, first i use about 180 -200 deg with 50% air,for about 5-10 minutes whilst making coffee, just to warm up the board , then i knock it up to full power 450 deg c, Max Air, for about 4-5 minutes and keep fluxing it with a brush. then when brushed and i first notice that the solder has melted. I tap it out! with the brush handle. i don't think the hot air gun is knocking out 450 deg because of the large nozzle, but it works.
If you go straight for the hot air without preheating, you end up burning the board!
the nozzle is a AOYUE Y1203

Very very good job...thankyou
see, i told ya that 040 was slow!

:lol:lol:lol
My Blizzard 1240 seems positively neanderthal in speed terms now!
Now for a session of 060 demo's coupled with a bottle of Shiraz....pure bliss! :great
Wow! And this 060 has an FPU? :-)
Dimlows upgrading my Blizzard 1240 next.......i'll be sooo lucky then.
I was of the understanding that Blizzards didn't like overclocking as much as the Apollo.
Its the scsi kits that dont so i'm putting an xc68060rc60 in it and keeping the 60mhz clock as i use the scsi kit.
nice work :D I flux over accelerators all the time :D
LOL, I want to try to squeze my full 060 Apollo 1240 to 80 MHz too :)
Just change the crystal, then.

My friend has upgrading B1240 > 1260 overclocked to 80MHz. Upgrade is easy and stable with MC68060 rev.6.
I heard both the memory controller and the scsi controller on B1240 do not like being overclocked so I question if this is true.

SCSI controller has limit cca 60MHz.

I've seen the blog on that blizz running at 80mhz.
Alex i believe its the memory controller on the scsi kit that bombs out as people remove the simm on the scsi kit and can then go further than 60mhz.
Even the fastest 50ns SIMM would be too slow at zero wait states with a fixed 1:1 clock with the CPU.
I think the Apollo boards have a jumper to run RAM controller asynchronously (slower) than CPU.
Dont think the Blizzards can do this can they? The CPU060 tool can tell the controller to add wait states which in theory could help.
the apollo memory speed is jumpered down to 40mhz..thats what makes then so overclockable...all the reading i have done suggests the blizzards are happy at 60mhz.....any more and you start getting problems.
I dont know how to use the interweb.
Which crystal do I need?
an 80mhz one....what revision cpu do you have in your apollo?

Very very good job...thankyou
So how much faster does WB seem (if any), I'm talking about open windows, rendering icons, scrolling window contents that kind of thing?
I noticed that when I upgraded from the standard 020 @ 14mhz with 8mb FASTRAM to my 030 @ 50mhz I did not get the WB speed increase that I was expecting in OS 3.9 using AGA. This was because the AGA chipset was the limiting factor. Obviously if you apply any patches to use the expansion card's CPU rather than the Amiga chipset then you should get a performance increase (eg FBlit).
Some demos for you to try out on your new 060:

http://ada.untergrund.net/showdemo.php?demoid=103
http://ada.untergrund.net/showdemo.php?demoid=407
Have fun :D
Thanks, i'm using ClsssicWB which has Fblit etc installed, messing around in workbench is definately a lot more responsive, windows and icons are redrawn almost instantaneously.
And then there's the full rate 256kpbs mp3 playing, multitasking etc......worth every bit.

Zetr0, sorry to say this, but we had those exact same desoldering units at my last job. They are GARBAGE. :( We purchased three, and within a month, two of them had shorted heating elements. The tips they provide and sell are also garbage, although if you have a proper vise and drill press, you can modify Hakko tips (which won't open up after using them for a day). I'm afraid that you do really get what you pay for here.
