View Full Version : What Amigas R U running?

Just wanted to get a feel for the Amigas people are still running on this board.
Mines a 1200 with a 360Mb hard drive, 6megs ram, second drive and a microvetech multisync monitor.
Wish I still had my classic 500, the one that came with the "batman pack". Bet that was the most popular amiga packages in the UK! Some money was spent that christmas by our parents!
The hard drive is full of nostalgic games, which is about all I use my Amiga for now. Need to track down some classic microswitch joysticks however for that genuine feel, as my old ones are done for. Bought a pad, but it doesn't seem right.
It's unbelievable how far a small hard drive will go on an amiga - it took me ages to fill up!
Got a 1 gig hard drive lying around, will that work with the amiga 3.0 OS?
Thanks for the input

I have two Amiga's..
Amiga 1200, with a Blizzard 1230-III (68030 @ 50MHz, plus FPU and MMU)
32MB's of Fast-RAM
800MB internal 2.5" IDE-drive
One internal, plus two external low-density diskdrives...

I also have an A500, but the internal diskdrive is broken.
I use my A1200 for games, and some quick Deluxe Paint'ing.

- Amiga 1200
- Blizzard 020 stuffed with 4 mb fast ram

That's all. The A1200 is used to create ADFs for ALE (just so you know).
I'm just surprised to see this forgotten thread. There are newer ones with exactly the same topic. When we organize eab's history, perhaps we should learn from our past mistakes and prevent duplicate threads. This one could grow into the popular "how many of you actually got amigas" and "which amiga models do you use" threads. Anyway just my humble opinions.

Hey! I think this was MY VERY FIRST THREAD ON EAB!!!!!!!! Written over a year ago yet it seems like yesterday. :(
Please handle this thread with care EAB brothers - it's very sacred to me and I NEVER WANT IT DELETED - DO YOU HEAR MODS? :nervous
So no spamming up this thread with useless information.
I need to update my Amiga setup as well. Everything's the same except now it's got 10 MB RAM and a 1.2Gig slim line 3.5" HD.
WOW POSTING IN MY VERY FIRST THREAD. I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy! I love praising myself. ;)
I have since then expanded teh collection, so here goes:
-A1200
-1GB Seagate superslim 3.5" HD
-Microbotics XA1230 030@50 with 32MB Fast on it.
-Connected to a Goldstar Studioworks 76i under Productivity/Euro72 for serious work, and to a crap TV for games. I need a scandoubler! though ModePro rocks for Scala :D

Is a parallel transfer program http://www.aminet.net/comm/net/paradise.lha (I get 50 KB with the A1200 and 30 KB with the A600)
I use it because PC2AM doesn't work with my A600 and now I don't want to rewire the parallel cable again (I used an old PC printer cable and a 25 pins connector)
VERY interesting, thanks a lot!!!!!
I will build tht cable and start hving some fun :)

Well, if you softkick the machine with 3.1, you can run it.
Supposedly this is illegal ;)

<offtopic>Is there some SoftKicker that works without a Blizzard Card? I've seen SKick but that only works for plain vanilla amiga's and i have a 68030 with MMU so i guess i need some softkicker with mmu service? (btw i've also tried CpuControl 1.06 without success)</offtopic>

Khmm, a CPU with MMU can run any softkicker: requiring a MMU and those that don't require MMU...

Three Amiga's sit in my home.
1) A500 1MB
Not in use. Gathering dust somewhere.
2) A600 2MB 200MB Harddisk
Not in use. Boxed and put away.
3) A1200 2MB+32MB 4096MB Harddisk 68030@40Mhz Scandoubler/FlickerFixer
In use as games machine.
It is running a modified ClassicWB install.
Makes backups using a 256MB compact flash.
Networks to the PC with a 10Mbit PCMCIA NIC (wired)
It is still white ;) (but I doubt it will stay that way)

I picked up an Amiga 4000/030&882, 50MHz with 16mb fastram recently - still picking through the installed software - it's the first time I've played with OS 3.9, and I'm impressed.
Have also got a 1200 with blizzard 1230iv 50/50 & scsi kit - with 256mb ram, heh, heh, heh! Am waiting to get a cdROM on the 8ugger so I can install linux. Trounle is, although the RAM registers the SCSI bus doesn't - anyone come across this problem on the 1230ivSCSI before? (I plugged the scsi cable in back to front a while back, and I think this may have -ahem- affected things slightly - ooops!). Don't know if it's the accelerator board or the scsi board which is the problem there.
Am waiting for a micronik zorro busboard to arrive (via ebay), so will try the A2091 from my A4000 on the A1200, see if I can hook up a scsi CDrom that way.
Still, after messing about with the A4000, I just wish it could handle more RAM - 18mb just isn't enough to surf the web with, even with pictures disabled. Plus, no SSL so can't log onto eBay.
May have to sell the 4000, as can't afford to have both.

Right... what I can see from here is....
2x A4000T (both working but in 'open box' state - desperately requiring a network card)
3x A1200 (one is my original 1993 one now with external A2000 keyboard, HD, CDROM, network card, 030 and 32meg of RAM that i've never been able to fill)
2x A600 (one with a HD - very cute)
a A1000 (that i've never been able to boot due to lack of disks - cool Kickstart screen though - still needs a keyboard)
a A2000 (could have been a 1500 as it has 2x Floppies, but has a HD as well)
a A3000 (ex US converted to PAL, but no PSU :( )
and a CD32!!!!
I'm pretty sure there's a couple of very yellow A500s and maybe a couple of 1200s in various states of disrepair in the loft
so almost a complete collection? and they all look fooking cool :D (however my missus is going mad)
oh yeah and 4 philips monitors to put them on... :great

Three of them....
A standard A600
An A600 with 2Mb chip RAM, 40 MHz 030 processor (with FPU) and 8Mb fast RAM, Squirrel PCMCIA adapter with 4Gb Seagate HD and a TEAC CD RW drive (not used it for burning yet tho...)
A1200 pretty much standard but with 8 Mb fast RAM and the Spuirrel set up as for the A600 above.
HUGE PD SOftware collection - all the 17bit CDs, the UPD collection, Aminet ROMs and of course, loads of Amiga Format and CU Amiga ROMs

I'm down to two systems now that the A4000T PPC system has been sold.
1. A1200 (Desktop)
KickStart 3.1 ROMs, running OS3.9BB2.
Blizzard 1260 with SCSI Kit add-on (64MB RAM)
Prelude A1200 soundcard
20GB 2.5" HDD
Plextor SCSI CD-ROM
Connected to a MicroVitec 1438S monitor...everything powered from a Power Computing 200watt PSU.
2. A1200 (Desktop)
KickStart 3.1 ROMs, running OS3.9BB2
Blizzard 1230 Mk.IV with SCSI Kit add-on (48MB RAM)
4GB 2.5" HDD
Connected to the same monitor, powered by standard 25watt PSU...soon to be replaced, hopefully, with a Goliath 200watt PSU.
I have a spare Blizzard 1260, which I may put into the second system...depends how Galahads updated SWOS installer runs on an '060 cpu.
I've also got a Wireless PCMCIA ethernet card on order...which should be here soon.
All thats left is an external (or internal) scan-doubler/flicker-fixer (I think the MicroVitec monitor will not last that much longer...) and a reliable SCSI CDRW drive.
I may mod the desktop case of one of the machines...silver and black, to match the monitor and mouse I will soon be getting...really need a CDTV keyboard though, so I can whip the black keys off it and use it on the modded case...

Just the three for me...
An A600 with KS1.3 - designated as my Battle Squadron / Turrican 2 / Pang / Rainbow Islands machine.
An A1200 with KS3.1, 3.5GB HDD, PCMCIA network card, 10MB memory and some kind of 030 accelerator - used for Pinball Fantasies and very rarely for its original purpose of dumping games for CAPS.
An A1200 with 540MB HDD - used for banging out quick invoices and typing out notes to stick through a fax machine.
Also until last week 4 A500's in various states of dismantlage, then sent to the tip, and now most likely adorning the shelves of some second hand store.

The Amiga section of my lab is as follows:
Amiga 1200, Microbotics RAM/FPU expansion, 4(6.4)GB HD, PCMCIA network, external floppies.
Amiga 2000, 68030/SCSI, 2GBHD, need a network card
The 2000 and 1200 are switched on a 1942 monitor. I really need a scandoubler.
Amiga 500, Some generic BBC and RAM expansion, my own RAM hack, PAL/NTSC switch, A590, 1.2GB of storage, and a PC drive that works great as DF0: (cable hack). This 500 is the worst-hacked box I've ever seen, all the chips came from different units, many of the traces are burned off of the board and replaced with wire, and the case has been hacked to accomodate the PC floppy. Still, It runs great.
On the shelf I've got 2 1000's, 4 or 5 500's in various states of repair (mostly working), and a bin full of 501's, 520's, 590's, and other odds and ends for the 500's.
I really want a 3000, 4000, 600, and an '040 expansion for my 1200.
Oh yeah, and I've got an adapter that gives my 500 a Zorro slot on the sidecar bus (IIRC) that came with the Spirit ATA adapter (Used to run my BBS on that bugger with a full-height 5MB MFM drive that sounded like dying goats when it accessed).

Just an old A500 1.3, 1MB RAM. No HD, no 2nd drive, no extra memory nothing!
Tried to update it a few times with no result. Never had the money for that extra disk/accelerator/memory things. There are some (expensive) hard disks/accelerators for A500 in ebay though.

Currently massaging my spare 1200 motherboard into a compaq deskpro case - fits extremely snug with a micronik busboard - will have to cut out backplate & raise case top though to allow zorro cards to fit. And rehouse the psu...
That keyboard problem's a bit of a stumper aswell, what with having no adapter :Ĵ(
All good clean fun though.
Forgot to mention the 2 A500+, the 3 A500s (1x 1 meg) and the 2 A600s which are stuck in various drawers - an ebay haul form about 2 years ago!
Could really do with a filing cabinet drawer to mount them ALL in, hook up a multi switch box & network the 8u99ers together (you can but dream....). Wish I had the programming knowledge to be able to do it though.

My main Amiga at the moment is my CD32, it's got an A2000 keyboard in it (painted dark grey, same as the CD32) and I should have an SX32 Pro (030/50/16MB/850MB HD) coming soon. Got a couple of Competition Pro control pads for it, a joystick/mouse switcher, and a mouse, all plugged in at the same time (it's great having a mouse AND two controllers without having to swap them around). I really want a CDTV or A4000 keyboard though, and a trackball. I also have extension cords for the CD32 controllers so they reach over the couch and to my bed.
Here's a full list of my systems, I can't be bothered listing all the expansions (030s, 3.1 ROMs, extra RAM, SCSI boards, digitisers, bla bla bla).
3x A1200s
2x A2000s

If you want a BRAND NEW SX32 Mk II, there are two places I know of online that you can order them from.

My understanding is that vinyl paint is the best for use on plastic since it soaks into the plastic and does not look painted on. For best results you would need to wash and degrease the plastic before painting.
And Mine:
A2000C running OS 2.04 zkicked from 1.3 ROMS

The Philips CM8833-II Monitor is in really good condition and is connected to a pair of Creative Gigaworks T20 Speakers (not pictured) they sound very good and I would recommend them...
I purchased from Ebay a Supra 2 Meg Ram Expansion for about £12.00 - when I set it up it actually had 8 Meg... result.
Together with a second Cumana Floppy drive and a Canon BJ10EX Printer it is a nice little second system that I mainly use for games when the A1200 is busy...

So don't you use WHDLoad then?
Peter
07 April 2007, 16:57
Oh yes - I'm a registered user of WHDLoad - have that running on the A1200 - wouldn't be without that!
The A500's real purpose is for me to still be able to play sensible soccer when I am pulling the A1200 to pieces TBH...

A1200 + 030/50 2mb+16mb math-Coprocessor 3.2GB drive (OS 3.0) Nec 3ds monitor
A2000HD + 030/40 GVP combo board 1mb +16GVP simms +2mb on the 2091 board math-coprocessor 286 bridgeboard 1084 Monitor and a Omnikey Ultra Keyboard.
Just got the GVP the other day.
I also have a stock A500 with A501 512k ram addon collecting dust on the shelf
Still have all this (except I took the GVP out so the 2000 is a stock kick 2.05 system)
Added a A3000 030/25 with 2MB chip/12MB fast, rj45 network card, and a Retina Z2 4MB video card. Has a nice 3 button optical/IR mouse too.

I have two Amigas:
A1200 with:
.Blizzard 1230 IV 50mhz no copro with 16mb ram
.3.5 inch 40 gig hd (on internal ide)
.52x32x52 cd rewriter (on internal ide)
.peecee keyboard interface (bitchin' stuff)
A500 with:
.2.5 mb internal memory board
.1 mb Agnus (not purchased later)
The A500 is dead, but I think all the important chips still work, as I got it to work once before it died, and it seemed to work just fine then. Maybe someone is interested in it for spare parts (maybe both the cias still work, for example) ? I'll be happy to give it away for free (I'm not charging for a dead computer), but I won't pay for the post and packaging (obviously).

A2620 CPU card with 2MB RAM
A2091 & A2052 with 2MB - I've got to get this thing open and see because the ShowConfig screen lists them on the same line so it's confusing - and a 100MB hard disk

Amiga 4000 40 standard with a memorex-whatsoever-but-works-fine-with-a-cooler-8-meg-ram-card and 4gb cf card.
EaglePlayer and a lot of demos - 95% of all the demos runs great: only some oldschool crunched and the amazing tbl demos... and iris heartcore. But they are OK in E-UAE. But (Win- E-)UAE is not the same thing. Not even close. It's incredible how Amiga stills the only computer that you have to get one for real. Theres vice, spectaculator, qemu, hatari,,, and yes - you have the feeling of the real computer (and sometimes better...) - I see that will never hapen with :bowdownAmiga.
