I thought id ask here before making a thread. My saves dont save unless i quit whdload. Is there a way to get round this? So it saves on the spot so i dont have to quit before i turn my machine off?

Mate, the whole point of WHDLoad isn't just to hard drive install stuff, but also to be able to quit to dos.
WHDLoad used to save on the fly as it were, but that involved OS swaps, so it was changed to save on exit, means less errors and problems.

Quitting before turning the machine off involves pressing 1 key! :laughing

Thanks for the info Galahead! But I have found a solution.
KG :D i should have explained. This is for my cd32 SX1. The unit this fits in is not wide enough for me to have the keyboard plugged in. The only way round it is unlug the joystick and mouse and move it left, to fit in. I cant pull it out becuase the sx1 is so fragile and crashes when moved! I will post a pic one day in "show amiga collection thread"
Anyway i got round this problem by assigning the quit key to my right mouse button!

You could set the quit button to the Play button the CD32 pad?
Also, you can set NOWRITECACHE to write to the disk immediately but you'll see all the OS swaps which are shit :)
as kg already wrote you can use NoWriteCache and make sure WriteDelay is large enough for the filesystem you use, default is 3 seconds which should be sufficient for ffs and sfs

Thought it best to create a new thread and move all related posts out of Cody's WHDLoad FAQ (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=5267) thread ;)

Sorry for the WHDLOAD-noob question: isn't it a bad idea, in case of a black out? If the power goes out before we can exit, the saves will be lost... :confused

If you have such unstable power, you risk damaging your hard drive!

i always choose to leave NOWRITECACHE on. call me old fashioned, but i like a save to be a save to disk straight away. Even in this day-and-age, a powercut can still happen.
The OS-swapping for a save game or highscore is so little, i think it's worth having the brief moment of black-screen.

Thank you for that tip, i will give it a try. Everyones different i guess but im with Horace. Tuesday night i played over 20 matches of swos in career and i lost it all becuase i didnt quit out as i was in a rush and forgot. If it means having a black screen for a few seconds, it doesnt bother me.
