G'day all,

Following my successful attempt at bringing an Apollo 1260 back to life (post (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=510960#post510960)) I have loaded my CF card with numerous WHDLoad games for my 5 year old to play (and me ofcourse :) ) and have found that 99.99% of games do not load because of an "ILLEGAL SLAVE" prompt which comes up every time.

Obviously it isn't a memory problem as I have enough of it, and I suspect that it isn't a WHDLoad rego problem because I have a legit key.

Unless it is because I am using a real amiga, then I do not know WTF is going on.

Thanks,
dc33 ;)

It certainly isn't due to you using a real Amiga, seeing as that is what WHDLoad is designed for.

Not a problem I've come across, but I'd check the tooltypes of the game icons to see they are pointing towards the slave file - and indeed if the slave file does actually exist in that directory.

Pick one of your games and replace the slave file with the newest one from the WHDLoad site. See if that makes a difference. Don't bothed with the installer or anything - just swap the slave.

Thanks m8, but I have checked these two issues and can confirm that the tooltypes is correct and pointing to the slave in the directory...!!

It is strange indeed as I do not recall having this particular problem in the past !! But thanks again. :great

Makesure you are using the latest WHDload binaries, if that fails use an older binary!

Makesure you are not using a pirated keyfile (This is bad, and is known to cause issues once found out ;)) [edit: ignore this :lol I really should read whole posts before replying!!]

Also how did you transfer to the Amiga? I had issues a few years ago where I transferred with a serial cable and the baud was too quick for the amiga, this resulted in corrupt files!

@ musashi5150

thanks to you too m8. I will give this a bash once I get my DVD up and running again as I use it for transferring files to my Amiga.... However, why would this make any difference as the game was WHDLoaded in the first place, so it should work regardless.... (?) No?

Hi bippym... long time no speak.. :)

As I said b4, my keyfile is legit - so I am good there. I have and do use a DVD to transfer my files across. Not into the RS 322 shite any more.

Will see what "binaries" do the trick !!!

Cheers ;)

heheh I edited my post above :)

It sounds like something is corrupt. Upload a few of the illegal slaves up to the zone so we can looksie :D

Also are you 100% certain you don't have a hardware issue? Memory corruption etc!

Recently quite a lot of slaves had to be tweaked and re-released due to Wepl tightening up the way slaves are parsed by WHDLoad (a good thing). But quite a few older slaves will be spat by newer versions of WHDLoad, even if they worked perfectly in the past with older versions.

Might not be your problem - but worth a quick go :)

Will upload some soon... It's late here in Oz (10PM) and I am f'n knackered.. but will do it..!!

I am 120% sure that there is no hardware issue as everything else runs well like games I have installed myself and the memory I have tested and is A-OK
:D!!

Hmmm......Will it be worth installing an older version of WHDLoad then ?? Has enyone had to do this and found it to fix the problem?

Wepl....If you get to reading this, please provide your input as to what should be done... thanks.

If 99,99% of your slaves have this problem then I'd guess there is an error when transferring the slaves from/to the CF card. Did you transfer the LHA archives or just the slaves only?

OMG........ I think I have answered my own question..:spin:crazy

I have just realised that because I have been soooo busy playing games via emulation, that I have inadvertently "assumed" that my real amiga had WHDLoad "installed"...!! What an effen idiot !!!

Just had a quick look and noticed that my WHDLoad key is all there is in the system... :laughing:nuts:banghead

Sorry, and thanks for your prompt help.

I am sure you will laugh at and with me !! :D

Errm, if WHDLoad is not installed, how did you get the "Slave is ILLEGAL" error then?

Good question, and I guess this is why it took me some time to realise. I will find out and let you know..!!

You probably had a very fucking old version!

0.66 actually.... Fucking old !!:laughing

StingRay
19 February 2009, 11:02
That explains the "slave is illegal" as v0.66 != WHDLoad not installed. :P

You still have v0.66? Guess it has some collectors worth already :D

DC33

I guess that depends on how things are regarded as. I inherited a very bad (or maybe good) habit from my German grandparents.... to keep everything just in case there is a rainy day....:shocked :lol

Mind to share it then? :) Must be one of the first public versions.
Oh and I would say it's a good habit :D

As StingRay stated before "slave is illegal" as v0.66 != WHDLoad not installed." I suppose that I had no WHDLoad installed in the first place ? How the Illegal Slave ties into it all I do not know....

However, although I reformatted the drive since having all these issues and reinstalling WHDLoad, I have looked through my really old saved CD's and have found out that the version I had installed is in fact v0.88 and not v0.66 as first thought.

If anyone wants it, just let me know.:blased

Let you know ;) Would be really nice to have such an early version :)

You always manage to confuse me. :D One day you find out that you have v0.66 of WHDLoad installed and the next day you think you don't have it installed at all? :D
