I would like to make a new competition.
Look what i was thinking :
This competition will be every system but not the amiga, amiga competition is already done by graham.
The one which win a round choose the next game (i choose the first one), or everybody choose a game and there is a random which choose the next game.
What do you think about the idea, who would like to participate ?
Give me your advices.
I think too : if you win and choose a game you will have to wait 3 rounds before you can choose the game again even if you win.Like this it's not always the same who choose.
systems : msx, c64, neogeo, mame , snes, genesis, pcengine, etc....

Hmm, dunno if many will participate, but I like the idea :) Would be cool if we choose a system (NeoGeo, SNES, C64) for two weeks or a month, so we don't have to look through all systems. Also the minimum size should be changed for each system.

id participate. You could even extend it to something like, 1 month is nintendo, the next turbo grafix 16, the next genesis etc etc etc. You could even have whoever had the most points per system will be put into a playoff, so it wouldnt necessarily have to be 1 month is 'said' system. I'm down for whatever the format is though.

Guess the problem is that posting it on an Amiga forum doesn't guarantee you'd get as much interest as you would if you posted on a forum dedicated to other formats.

And on a personal level I wouldn't have much time to take part in it; it's hard enough trying to fit the Super League into my hectic schedule as it is ;)

It's a nice idea though but probably not best suited to EAB. And also I wouldn't want for it to detract from our League really. But that's not to say don't do it, it's up to you, just my opinion on it.

Edit : :banghead Sorry I thought you were talking about something like Guess the screenshot ;)

TCD either you've misunderstood his idea or I have. Picture size? I don't think he's talking about a screenshot compo ;)

Yeah I just realised that ;) Since I don't have many emulated systems set up here and don't plan to I guess I'm out then :p

Actually, come to think of it, an idea very similar to this has already been done - http://s11.zetaboards.com/RetroLeague/

I'm on there, and I know TF is too, I don't take part very often though because I don't have time usually, and even if I do, I can't be bothered to go around looking for and setting up emulators and the like. Still a nice competition and quite fun from what I've experienced of it.

You can continue to put advices, i will open the thread surely this week-end and will see what happen.

What I don't like about the RetroLeague is that it's almost always 1st or 2nd generation arcade and console games that get played (1980 Arcade, Atari VCS, C64).

Thumbs up for turrican3! :great

I'd like to have a similar league where solely 3rd generation videogames get played. By that I mean only "16bit" (*) systems: Super NES, Amiga, Mega Drive / Genesis, Neo Geo, PC Engine, Sharp X68000. NO ATARI ST! ;)
Okay, maybe throw in some C64- and NES-games for fun.

(*): I know that in fact the Amiga had a 32bit-processor while PC-Engine and SNES had 8bit-processors. Still the graphics on all those systems look somewhat "in the same league".

I've been on the retroleague for about 2 years now. It is heavily influenced by Mame. But, thats not to say with the 2 vote per person that someone couldnt select an SNES or Genesis Or TG16 game.

I have chosen 16 bit systems before, but with the wide choices of what john said about 1 and 2 gen systems...I wind up choosing mame. It would be nice to have a wider array of consoles though. The TG was an 8 bit processor but had dual 16 bit GPUs which made it plenty capable as a "16" bit system. Then there was the PC Engine, which i think was 16 or 32 bit.

yakyak was pretty good with different consoles, but that league has been swooned for about 8 months now.

I thought TurboGrafx was just the American name for the (Japanese) PC Engine.

What happened to the Lleague (or is that Yakyak)?

Yes I agree with John4p. If anything on this league would be on those platforms minus the NES.

The problem for me is actually have time to play also on this league, but you never know. But i think is a good idea.

PS. oh yes and NO Atari ST games. Now call me fan boy, i don't care!:p

I apologize. You are correct. I meant and thought i was typing PC Engine with CD. Graphics on the cd were a bit nicer than on the hucard.

Yes, Yakyak is the Lleague. Not sure, i think muttley is busy with other things. Another guy Paul was willing to help out but i guess there is a conflict of interest. Oh well.

The retroleague shows these things can work. Personally I'm spread thin enough with the Super League, and sometimes Lemon64. I like to hang out in the niches anyway - might be tempted by a purely NES or NES + SNES league. Will keep a lookout for whatever you do though.

It's a good idea but the time is a rare commodity and i'm not sure of having enough :help

I am definitely up for the idea as well :), but i am of the same vain with Rexsu regarding time constraints :(

It must be because we are both 34 Rexsu, its that age of NO TIME.. :D

me i just feel like a good occasion to discover great games :great.
That's why i think i will let it open to every system.
I think that everybody can choose great games even 8 bits must have jewels. even videopac for sure could have jewels. ;)

I can think of many great 8 bit games. Balloon Fight is one that comes to mind.

Also, for the ones that have families and stuff, we'll have 4 games per year. Each game is played for 4 months. OK, bad joke.

@turrican3

An idea for you - I don't know how long you intend to run this for, but making sure it at least covers the breaks in the Super League (i.e. for five weeks each April/May and August/September, probably in the Knockout tournament as well as after a few weeks most of the competitors are out anyway) would probably help you get more competitors? As obviously then we don't have to worry about running and taking part in our compo :D
