Hi!
I have installed another floppy drive so I can try Disk2FDI out!
problem is im running XP at the moment, so I boot with a win98se floppy to get at the dos stuff..
I cannot get it to write to drive B? it fails when it shouldn't?
Will this program be better off running under 98se under a command prompt window?
if thats not the case then im stuck :( both drives are in perfect working order...
and yes iv'e RTFM LOL!

I'm not sure what you mean by "write to drive B:" but you cannot write to a floppy drive using DISK2FDI. It requires a "dummy" PC disk in drive A: and your Amiga disk in drive B: (or vice versa). You have to dump the Amiga disk to a hard drive or removable storage like a ZIP disk. If you installed XP with the NT file system, your DOS boot disk won't be able to access the hard drives. Are you able to see any of your hard drive letters from the boot disk?
If you can't, the only solution I can think of is to create a ram disk using a boot disk, then dump your Amiga disks there, compress them, then copy them down to floppies.

Well since you have FAT32 partitions then you should be able to use the C: drive as the destination, I'd create a new folder on the C: drive like ADF or FDI or something like this so you can write the images to this folder instead of just the temp folder.
EDIT: I've been messing around with my new box and Disk2FDI to make images with. I also found a nice little frontend for it located at their home page:
http://www.oldskool.org/disk2fdi/
http://www.republika.pl/madman_xxx/Disk2fdi_frontend.zip
This works well when you copy it and the disk2fdi command to a default path or even a working directory like the adf folder I mentioned. I also created a nice little shortcut on the desktop to work from :)
I've created some images to test with and so far so good :D
