If anyone is still interested in getting these kinds of disks, I found an online supplier. Of course they have a no return policy on them :( but the price seems rather good :)

Sure I understand, but there are drives out there that simply don't like HD disks and no amount of tape covering the HD sensor hole will help :spin

For UK members here is an excellent site run by a guy called Nick as a hobby. I've bought stuff off him before and he's really professional, polite and has great customer service. I've linked the title page because deeper links won't work :confused

16/32 Systems (http://www.1632-sales.zenwebhosting.com/acatalog/)

The disks are in the Hardware and components section at the bottom of the page. :)

I emailed the people at Meritline to find out how much it would cost to ship those 500 disks to the UK. You know what they told me? $68.99!!!! I'm off to remortgage the house. :D

Even so, when you do the maths they work out at half the price you'd pay at 16/32.

That's interesting, this is shipping to the UK then? And is 16/32 a local vendor to you? I've not heard of them.

I was talking about the link to the store Bloodwych posted above. I've just checked and they're in Kent which is a few hundred miles away from me. Although that won't make any difference as it costs the same amount wherever you are in the UK because it's such a tiny place.

When I did my calculation I didn't include 16/32's shipping fees so that makes Meritline's deal even cheaper.

16/32 are charging £12.50 for 50 new DD disks by the way (this is before postage fees have been added). I noticed this is exactly the same as Dixons are charging for 50 HD disks and you can pick those up yourself. I suppose it all comes down to whether or not you want to cover the holes on the HD disks.

and wether or not your drive(s) can work with the HD media itself. A lot of drives can but some can not or the data gets corrupted easily because the drive can't properly record/write to HD media ;)

Ah well, details, details. :D

In that case it's probably best to play it safe and get the DD ones. Now it comes down to how many you want, 500 or 50.

500 from Meritline would cost £60.98 including postage which works out at £6.10 for 50. Decisions, decisions, lol.

The way I look at it is, that those wanting to test out HD disks on their drive(s) should get either a 5 or 10 pack from a local vendor and try them all out for a period of time to note any problems, formatting, writing and deleting files, etc... If no problems occur then by all means use the HD disks, but if they experience problems then hey they now have some alternative vendors to purchase DD floppys from.

And yes it's a matter of how many do you want, 50 or 500 :laughing

Well, in that case you might get away cheaper if you buy a new internal Amiga drive.
I know for sure that the Chinon FB-354 does write to HD disks without any problems ( you don't even have to cover the hole ), because I have one of these drives in my A-500 and I have HD disks I copied games onto some yeass ago and they still work fine. :)
I don't claim the Chinons are good drives ( they look a bit like low quality with their plastic parts etc. ), but I think these are the most common ones that are still sold by Amiga dealers around the world, and being HD disk compatible is a big advantage :)
But it is no HD drive !
The FB-354 is a DD drive that can read & write 880kB to HD disks !
