This is my first post so sorry if I do somthing wrong,
This problem has been kicking my head in now for 4 weeks and I have no choice but to post Icant work this out.
I have winuae 1.5.3 (Latest) and a real A1200 the spec is as follows:
--------------------------
A1200 mainboard Rev 1a
Blizzard 1230 MKIII 68030 @50Mhz + FPU 68882@50 +32Mb
3.1 Roms
Compact Flash 4Gb Hdd
--------------------------
SOFTWARE:
--------------------------
Amigasys4 aga with OS3.9 and bb2
WHDload 16.8
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My question is this,
I have setup a virtual machine with the same settings as the real one I have,
Then I setup Amigasys4 on the compact flash drive so I can put it in the real amiga, everything went well I put the cf back in the real amiga and it booted perfect,
all features work apart from whdload, I have tried changing settings in whdload.prefs and I have amiga roms as I own cloanto amiga forever.
when I launch a title for instance Mortal Kombat, the whdload blue box comes up telling me about the whdload and then it shows another blue box which tells me to press f10 to quit game (All quite normal) then it atempts to run the game and bums out to an error and always seems to be illegal exception $102A or as near as that, NOWTHATS GREAT BUUUT
When I put the CF in my reader on the PC and use WinUae and as above use the same hardware virtualy and load the os from the CF and Try the game again it will work??????
WHY?
Anyone Please would be good to get some feedback.:crying

Sounds to me like a hardware problem with your real Amiga.
What happens if you boot with no startup, then type C:WHDLoad game.slave PRELOAD. See if it works then.

OS 3.9 is not exactly the OS for whdload. Try OS 3.5 instead ;)
Hungry Horace

as FOL said, have you tried not letting workbench boot, but instead, skipping the startup-sequence and running the whdload slave that way? ... i wouldnt say it as likely to be a hardware problem though. UAE is quite capable of missing steps out which might cause real machines to crash.
Anyway, if there is no error without a startup, then it's something that AmigaSys4 is loading during startup which is causing the error. (seems likely to me, i always thought AmigaSys seemed rather bloated with extras)

:bowdown Thanks for the quick posts, I will try the steps above and post later with a progress status,
If this is anything to go by I have the shareware version of Doom installed this is not a whdload install but non the less it works,
This is what makes me think it cant be a hardware fault but i could be wrong.
Thanks again will post update tonight:bowdown

ok i'll try to install MK from my original disks, and then launch it. Let's see what's happening !
ares2029
08 December 2008, 13:17
Thats a good idea, The mk that i installed, lets just say I was lazy,
I downloaded from WHDownload.com, it was a pre made install,
is it a known thing that these premade ziped downloads dont work with hardware,
Could you try for me as you have the original disks
Thanks:blased
Graham Humphrey
08 December 2008, 14:19
The pre-installed games are as far as I know installed from original copies and certainly do work on real hardware, that shouldn't be the issue.
Boo Boo
08 December 2008, 14:23
If youve got the WorkBench disc 3.0/3.1 - boot from that and then try lanching the games from your HD.Basicly what Hungry Horace said:)
Edit: And FOL.

Can faulty Ram cause this, I realy dont think the fast ram is faulty on my 030 cause as before doom works fine and zool2aga works , this is installed by me with whdload and original disks but the problem seems to be the premade ones,
Could it be the way I copied them over to the flash using winuae?
These are my steps,
1 download to desktop on pc
2 run uae and drag the LHA file to amiga desktop window (uae)
3 use File Manager in amiga os to copy contents to a new volume ie mine is a partition called Games.
Thanks again for your replys.

i download all my games from whdownload.com, copy them to CF with winuae, then run them on my A1200/030 ... so its definately not that
faulty ram is a possibility. There's a whdload tooltype which stops whdload allocating ram in reverse, so it may be worth giving that a try: "NoMemReverse"
i notice you are using a 68030... have you set the "MMU" tooltype in s:whdload.prefs ? i had many errors on games before i set this myself. (somthing i often forget to do when setting up a new drive)
ares2029
08 December 2008, 16:07
Hi again,
Yes I have set MMU in whdload.prefs,
please correct me if iam wrong, you just take the ";" bit off the line you wish to enable, just like any cfg file then save it?
also I have not been aware of the tooltype (NoMemReverse) can it be set in whdload.prefs, i.e can i just type it in on a new line and save it?
again to all thanku and I will post all my findings tonight.
Thanks

Yep, remove the ";" from the beginning and save.

i wouldnt be so sure of that. I have Blizzard 1230 MkIV and it must be used WITH. Best to try both.
need to check amiga-hardware.com i guess
edit: i had a look, and it didnt help.

Hi Guys,
Unfortunatly this thead is now paused ll at least till the end of this week,
Reason is, I got one of those new idefix express's and have fried my mainboard,
Yes yes what a Wan~"{~er, but we live and learn.
I am sure ill have the same problem when I re build my miggy so please stay tuned as I need, and am very greatful for all input and by the end of the week I should be back on track to give a full update.
Also just to clear a few things up, I have tried MMU on and of recommended on and still same problem,
I need to test the lha that dlfrsilver has posted for me as this may explian quite abit,
Also FOL has give me an idea to test if the Blizzys ram is faulty,
So to all Ill be back and again Thanks for now.

ouch, you to, ;).
This happened to me with IDEFIX EXPRESS, but it cooked my MicroDrive. Only used my MicroDrive, cause Express refused to work with my 4GB CF card.
Ended up dumped the express board, and using just the IDEFIX IDE splitter.

Hi FOL,
I dont think it was the IDEFIX Express come to think about it,
It was me
What I actually did was cut a bit out at the back and put a laptop cdrom in there but I couldnt shut the damn thing so I kind of forced it a little,
As far as I could see there was no shorts to the board before I turned it on and then when I did turn it on I heard a small pop so I quickly turned it off more or less that instance.
Then striped it down and to just the mainboard and pluged it back in and it worked only to find out I have a knacked graphics like a rolling grey and black after it then shows some colours in the rolling carry on, Most likly the rom screen.
Plugged the express back in and still goty same results so I must have shorted somthing when I put it all together.
I WAS RUSHING :(
A new board is on its way should I try the fix again only this time no cdrom and no squashing am I brave enough

Ah, you must have put the cdrom to low an angle, and the keyboard was pushing against it.
I used rubber pads to stop it shorting against anything. Also checkout my post, where I show how I got round the closing lid problems.

Yes you can, you should be able to use any aslong as it has the correct connector E-IDE or is it JAE, so many names, lol.
I have upgraded my drive to a DVD-R/RW combo (slot loading) drive, forgot to post updated pics. It works perfect, Im hoping to make a massive compilation DVD, which should work fine, :).

Hi All,
Some good news also
a solution and the cause of this problem I had
and I wrote this on the damn Amiga that had the problem.
Good news:
I have to thank all the peeps who helped me through this,
Also a big thanks to FOL for some additional ideas,
My Amiga is now working number 1
and has wifi,dvd/cd/rw, and a 6.5 gb hdd
on ide express with the express bit working,
Last the blizzard 030 with fpu and 32Mb all @ 50Mhz.
I AM HAPPY
The problem!!!
It would not run any whdload games WHY?
The cure!!!
CF HDD _____ Dont know why realy but could be the read speed
With the same setup as before but with a normal hdd 2.5" EVEN ON EXPRESS it work!
All games work and yes i am using os 3.9 with rom update 3.9 damm u 4Gb CF.
If anyone could just verify that they have had the same problem this would seal this post.
Thanks to all I will stick around on this forum from now on as I still have unanswered question on other amiga related stuff.
Thanks AGAin All

i've always followed Zetr0's advice as to MaxTransfer values:
http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=296745&postcount=102
and i've never had any problems reading data so-far.

Thanks, Just been reading up on this, although CF was fast it hits performance on the optical drive because you have to use the optical drive with PI0 as apose to dma if you have the fast ata or express,
Supose I am a speed freak,
Same as FOL it blew my CF with the express board.

You say, WHDLoad problem because of HDD?
My A1200 (also Blizzard 030 with 32megs) runs very few WHDLoad games, WB3.1
BUT, my A4000/060 with 16+128mb runs almost ALL WHDLoad games.
Why? I don't know :crying

widely regarded to be one of the most compatible WHDload setups, so i think you have a .prefs (no MMU set?) or other problem with your setup.

Well I must say that I started to use WHDLoad just last week on my A4000 040/25 and I have yet to found a problem with my setup. Works really well!
Maybe the A4000 is more compatible?
taunusanden
15 December 2008, 23:07
@xpect
Maybe.
Before I god my 060 card, I also had the original Commodore 040@25Mhz card, the games worked just as fine as with the 060.
Maybe 030 processors or some acc. cards just don't work well with WHDLoad?
Retro-Nerd
15 December 2008, 23:10
Nope, it is like Horace said. An Amiga 1200+030 Blizzard card is probably the most compatible setup for WHDLoad. Have you tried the "NoMemReverse" tooltype in s:whdload.prefs?
ares2029
16 December 2008, 18:21
As I said above I had a major problem not been able to load any whdload games on my setup,
I went through what every one has said on this post and this was the solution below.
The only thing that changed is listed here:
Mainboard WAS Rev 1A (I feked it by installing the IDEfix Express wrong) Could be this Revision board that was the problem.
Mainboard is now 1D4 and works with Express idefix.
Express idefix blew my Compact flash Hdd 4gb so I replaced with a 2.5"6gb hdd of the laptop type, (again it could be the Compact flash drive that was at fault)
Here are my conclusions if you have the same symptoms as I described in this post try these few things::::
1) if you have CF hdd try a normal hdd or search around this forum for the maxtranferrate fix. I am sure somone could tel u more on this!
2) Check what rev board you have if its a 1A and you have a normal hdd and are getting the same errors as me then it maybe that rev of board or at least a select few of that revision as commadore used to do after fixes.
3) send your hdd to someone that has a setup with a 1230 accel and get them to try the hdd in there machine because I doubt it will be the accel card.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks
AHHHH heres a quick edit for max transfergo here--> http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=102

1. My HDD is a normal 2,5" drive.
2. Mainboard 1D.1
3. Maybe I should try a clean install instead. When I think about it (it happens) the guy that I bought the Blizzard 1230 IV from, used it for WHDLoad :)
