Rules:
- The round starts now (Sunday, September 14) and will end at 11:59pm UK time on Saturday, October 4.
- Score as many points as possible.
- Post screenshots of your score in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.
- No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM either me or Biscuit and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.
- Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your "team" for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.
- The winner of this round gets to choose the letter for round 11 - the third special round where you can only vote for games that begin with the specified letter. Plenty to play for.

It can be quite frustrating in the later levels when you try to find the last one or two treasures. Of course there are also some nasty 'dig fast or die' situations. Ah nevermind you'll see for yourself Graham :D

Okay then, my first attempt. Got to level five but couldn't find my way to the exit (the invisible walls - grrr). I do quite like this but some of the level design smacks of Rick Dangerous - i.e. horrifically unfair invisible traps.

The only good thing is that you can collect the red health potions. If you run into these traps the potions can save the day :agree

Yes, they are helpful but ideally you should have at least a fighting chance of not being hit by them in the first place...

If you know where they are you can just stop close in front of them and they show up, so you can jump over or duck under them. At least some of these traps are avoidable this way and when you finish one level you start with full energy in the next.
For me it's just fun to play this game again ;)

My reminiscence of P.P.Hammer is a bit blurry but I remember some bonus rounds and places where the treasures are hidden. In the 13th level my memory didn't serve me and I ran out of time ;)

Anyone got a Hi-Toro config for this? I've tried 1.3, 2.0 with different ram configs, gfx chipsets etc etc.

Keeps getting stuck on the Disk Operation screen flashing pink. Also tried 3 different downloads of the game.

Have you tried the disk from the first post? It works fine with the A500 most common quickstart here. You have a pink flashing screen when the game loads? Which version does that?

If you haven't done so already, maybe try using the new version of Hi-Toro (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39116) + the ADF (http://www.planetemu.net/index.php?section=roms&dat=257&action=showrom&id=338147) listed in the first post + the Quickstart A500 setting. Fingers crossed ;)

I usually don't use guides or walkthroughs but for this I'm going to download the recorded longplay from recordedamigagames.org...

edit: Okay - I had to super-jump into some artifact (the magic eye) in order to get warped to the last damned blue key...

I work fulltime as software engineer. But last week and today I had vacation. It's just that I enjoy this game. I will complete each level - although not in one sitting. I guess it's too hard to complete all 63 levels without screwing up sooner or later. But we have unlimited tries for each level (for this competition I think I will maybe manage to complete the first 40 levels in one go once I learned them).

Level 9 is nasty. There are some other levels where the treasures are hard to find. Searching for them can be fun, but when you have to play through all the other levels again if you time out, it's better to have a short look at a map... ;)

The more I play the more I seem to enjoy the chore of getting through some of the levels. But still... it can be very irritating. I don't remember the game being that challenging. Wouldn't have got my vote if I had. :banghead

It is unfair when there are invisible traps, teleports, and walls/platforms etc (and that's just level five...!). Anything that reduces it to a pure memory test rather than a game of skill is awful game design. Reminds me a bit too much of Rick Dangerous in some places ;)

Actually this is one of the most unfair games I've played in quite a while...

I can appreciate all the dexterity/reflexes stuff in the game... but for exaple when jumping from ladder to ladder, like in level 15, when you don't make the jump you end up in a pool of lava, loose some energy and have to go back and try again... IF the lava wasn't there, fine! The clock's still ticking so you're being punished for not making the jump. But the lava thing is just mean. MEAN!

The guy making some of the levels had some serious issues :nuts

Well maybe because I like adventures that isn't so annoying for me, but you're right that it's more learning where the traps, enemies and treasures are than getting used to the gameplay itself.
I never would want to play Rick Dangerous in this league. It took me ages to get past the fourth screen in RD1 ;)

Level 9 is a b*tch. I manage to get through it almost in every try now, but the two levels afterwards 'kill' me ;) Haven't got a higher score yet with over 5 tries. It's getting frustrating :sad

Less than three days to run for this round now so if anybody out there wants to join in then you need to get a move on.

Remember the exciting twist here - the winner of this round gets to choose the letter for the round 11 voting. It's all done by PM, not for any great reason really, but it adds to the tension ;) Basically, if anyone beats John's score, then can you please PM me or Biscuit with your choice of letter at least a day before the end of the round, or immediately if you beat him on Saturday. This is so voting can start on time.

Also remember round 11 is a special round so two games will be played, so bear that in mind. Also note that game titles beginning with 'The' don't count as 'T', for example, so 'The Great Giana Sisters' would count as beginning with G.

I tend to agree with your attitude. I needed to look at the longplay to solve level 25. I also needed to look again at the longplay to solve level 38. I usually don't do that. Dunno why I felt the need to do it this time...
