View Full Version : Rare amiga game

I think I've got a game which is rare. I'm talking about Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The original game, as all versions in TOSEC are, crashes as the end of the game. I bought the game originally in 1990, and I reported this to the customer service department. They sent me a new version, which does not crash, plus which was improved in loading times as well (not so relevant now with emulators, but still). I transferred the disk using serial cable between my Amiga and PC as ADF format. Is anyone interested in this?
It would be good if the files got added, so I will never loose them again :)

Yes please - can you upload it to the Zone? (If you need it, here's something about accessing the Zone: http://eab.abime.net/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_thezone_faq_item)

Awesome rfasel75 :great
I looking for a good version very long. Didn't know the fault was in the original game, I always thought it was a bad rip/crack.
Thank you very much :agree

Mmh sounds interesting. I wonder, which version JOTD used for the WHDLoad patch. Never played it to the end.

OK, but will someone add it to TOSEC Amiga?

A dump for SPS would be most welcome too I think. :)

Yeah, apparently there are no complete versions in tosec or whatever.
Here's the longplay someone made a while back, jump to the end to see how it crashes.

The guy recording it thought maybe the game had no end...
There is no endscreen or credits when the game is completed.
I have completed the game twice with different disks with the same result.
So maybe this game has no one or the emulator got a problem. It just ends up
with an inactive screen with a cursor. Strange way to end a game... :/

Is there a level skip cheat? I've installed it (WHDLoad) and want to compare it with the one in KG's pack. :confused

No cheats that I know of, but Jason has finished it and confirms it's 100%.

So KG's install is 100% working? What's about the SPS #0160? I don't have it, is this 100% too?

Aah, thanks. Then should KG replace his old preinstalled version with this disks. Only to be sure. ;)

Sorry for asking, but what/who is KG?
TheCyberDruid
11 July 2008, 21:37
KG is killergorilla (http://eab.abime.net/member.php?u=2060) who makes packages of WHDLoad games. Retro meant he should use your disks for the install of the WHDLoad for Who framed Roger Rabbit.

WOW! Miracles happen while I'm absent for DAYS!
Please, could anyone re-zone this one? Thanks.

IIRC you had to reboot whenever you wanted to play a new game.
I remember the game being marked down in reviews because of this.
So does this version fix that flaw, and allow restarting the game without a reboot? Or does it simply allow the ending screen to be displayed without crashing, and then you have to reboot to play again?

Here you go, hope that someone will pick it up for next TOSEC release (as the other ones I put in the zone)

Yikes! That was fast... will compare this with two versions we have on file to see if we're missing this confirmed "full" version.
THANKS!

No problem :)
I just wonder, why SPS-team is interested in ADF-image?
Its probably only for comparing purpose, i think.:confused

i have at home this game, distributed here by Coktel Vision. I'm asking myself if they used the patched version or not...

Ok, here are the results of the German jury:
There seem to be at least three versions on the market, maybe even more. I will be using version numbering which is just here for comparison. The files itself have no version indicator.
v1.0: RogerRabbit, 100.708 Bytes, 08/30/1988 (alternative RAW dump, made from a Cocktel Vision version)
v1.1: RogerRabbit, 107.472 Bytes, 02/08/1989 (SPS #160)
v1.2: RogerRabbit, 107.896 Bytes, 03/17/1989 (ADFs provided in the zone)
While I have not been able to play the game to the end (gameplay is just awful), here are some details on the versions.
v1.0: Black background in system prefs, game ends after game over screen and drops back to non-loaded WB (you're stuck).
v1.1: Blue background in system prefs, game offers to restart "YES * NO".
v1.2: Blue background in system prefs, game offers to restart "(Y)ES * (N)O".
So there are small differences. I do not know if version 1.1 can be played to the end.
If anyone has v1.2 - please consider dumping it.
@mai: Of course we do not use ADFs for mastering IPFs, but when researching, a good ADF is better than nothing - right?
Cheers!

Interesting research there mr. vince! Too bad that rfasel75's account already 'timed out' and he didn't contact you. Maybe you could ask RCK if his registration email is still available and ask him if he would consider dumping his disk for SPS.

ok the dump is from my original :) That's the v1.0 !

ok the dump is from my original :) That's the v1.0 !
Not really. ;) Ville9 did the dump yesterday from the version he has which is equal to the version I have... And it's also equal to the US version I have...
Sooo.... v1.0 seems to be quite common, while the others are more or less rare.

I dumped that game a long moment ago if i remember well :D Not Yesterday !
mr.vince
11 June 2009, 07:02
Yeah, but the particular dump I was talking about came from Ville9... Don't know, maybe yours was modified. Whatever. We do have enough dumps of v1.0 - unfortunately, it's the worst version of all.

At least i have found 2 different scene releases, additional to the well known "WOW" crack.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit v1.0 (1988)(Buena Vista)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Far Side Software]
Who Framed Roger Rabbit v1.1 (1988)(Buena Vista)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr PNA]
...but i have no idea, if end part is working in one or both versions.

v1.2: Blue background in system prefs, game offers to restart "(Y)ES * (N)O".
Where can i find this version?
