Rules:
- The round starts now (Sunday, June 29) and will end at 11:59pm UK time on Saturday, July 19.
- Score as many points as possible.
- Post screenshots of your score in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.
- No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM either me or Biscuit and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.
- Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your "team" for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.

does anyone have a link to the manual or buttons that are used in this game? On level 2 when i go through those force field/electricity doors and have no keys - I keep dying trying to get out.

He, he. In this game it is important to think two steps ahead. You can not let yourself be out of ammo and out of keys. Plan your route wisely, know you exit. This game is not so easy. It has only six levels.

Ya know I had a feeling when i did that the first time that i wouldnt be able to get back out. Great. I suck at thinking! :)

Well it's better than Turrican, if nothing else ;)
(Although in fairness, I'd say jumping out in front of a bus is more enjoyable than Turrican) ;)

I strongly disagree. The Turrican-series ist the pinnacle of Amiga gaming for me. But to each his own...
I like both Turrican and Alien Breed :D
Maybe I beat john this time ;)

Alien Breed and Turrican are totally different games and I don't think it is wise to compare them. Alien Breed has its own atmosphere and suspense while Turrican is a pure bunch of action. Both I like but in Alien Breed I have to use my brain a lot more and that is why I prefer it. In Alien Breed there is no point in shooting furiously because pretty fast you will run out of ammo or you shoot at emergency lock and close yourself in a no-way-out chamber. Like in a real life or at the set of another Alien movie. In Turrican there is more fun in shooting everything what moves and don't get killed. Both are good but for me only one is better ;)
Personally I like sequels to Alien Breed (AB2) less than original. They lack of this atmosphere and are slowly becoming a furious shoot'em up where you don't mind your ammo supplies or you're not afraid of being closed in seperated area...

Bah, Alien Breed is utter low budget crap! 'Nuff said.
Well if memory serves me, this was Team 17's first "commercial" release, but prior to Alien Breed, they called themselves Team 7 and were making budget titles. So there may be some truth to this... I will admit that i never truly got into the first Alien Breed game all that much and became more accustomed to Part 2 and AB3D than this one.
Sorry to read that. I hope he will soon - and fully - recover!

Well if memory serves me, this was Team 17's first "commercial" release, but prior to Alien Breed, they called themselves Team 7 and were making budget titles. So there may be some truth to this... Knew it. Be it "Alien Breed", "Superfrog" or "Project X" - they all have pretty clean - albeit somehow bland - graphics, yet all seem to miss something important: quality game-design.

Yeah - looks like those hosting problems are back again. :(
Graham Humphrey
02 July 2008, 20:39
Right, as Lemon still seems to be down, if anyone on the Lemon side has a score they want to post then it would be easier for them do it on here while Lemon can't be accessed.
Obviously when it's back, we're back to normal.

05 July 2008, 14:32
Hmmm.. just one question! ... Are there some on here playing Alien Breed SE and some on here playing the "true" original first version of Alien Breed? I am just a little curious, since the SE version of any Team 17 game always ended up being easier than the first version.
So what's everyone playing?
Graham Humphrey
05 July 2008, 14:35
If there is anyone who is playing the Special Edition, kindly let me know so I can disqualify your score ;) (I can't imagine there is though.)
It has to be the original game, it's what was voted for the most. SE is pretty much an entirely different game (and I think a better one too). But if anyone wants to vote for SE in the future then feel free.
Like Graham said the plain old ECS version of Alien Breed :)
Well actually not atm since I have some work to do :(
But later I will kick some alien butts :D
What about you blade?
Couldn't resist to play it... :D

Oh crap! I finished the game for the first time ever. After watching the ending the game shows you a nice picture and there is no return to menu and you cannot see your score. Be aware not to reach the exit of Level 6 if you want to submit your score in this competition :)
That's bad news mailman :sad
I bet you had the top score. Now this is a serious fault to the competition. I don't remember, but is there a computer terminal before the exit? Then that could be used to show the score.
mailman
06 July 2008, 18:55
In the last level I haven't spotted any terminal. Everything is alienish so seeing terminal there would be a bit odd ;) What's more, after killing the mother alien destruction sequence initiates. When it is initiated you cannot enter terminal.
Anyway you are the winner of the hearts mailman ;)
I'm curious what Graham sais about this. It's really bad that once you completed that hard game you get no final score.
Biscuit
06 July 2008, 19:08
Yeah - this is a potentially serious problem. Clearly no one's ever meant to complete this game. ;)
We're gonna have to knock heads on this, and try to confirm the problem.
mailman
06 July 2008, 19:21
Guys, I would not make a huge problem out of it. After killing mother alien you just have to commit suicide and you will get the score. I will try to play again. The world does not collapse because of that ;)
@TheCyberDruid
Not necesserly I could have got the highest score. More aliens you kill, more points you get. In level 5 and 6 I mostly avoided them, so it is possible I haven't beaten john4p.

You are right mailman we just have to let the 'doom counter' run down (when we managed to survive that long ;)). Thanks for the info.
john must have spend all his money on ammo to kill that much aliens. That's what I call good management :agree He gets the highscore even if he hates the game ;)

Some tips for new players:
1. In this game you can not have more than 4 lives. Even if you collect the fifth one it will not be added. Sometimes it could be wise to collect it while running to the decklift (if you know where the extra life is located). This is the moment where you might lose one of your four and that extra life could easily equal to the initial level.
2. Remember that buying a new weapon gives you 4 nibbles of ammo. If you consider buying a new weapon do not waste money on buying nibbles.
3. Mind your shots especially when you are close to seal gates. Sometimes you might trap yourself (especially in level 3, in the top right corner of the map).
4. I do not recommend laser (as a weapon) during exploration of the first five stages. The beam is deflecting from walls and has a long lastability. It is good for killing aliens but it brings a lot of chaos on the screen and incidentially it may close the seal gates. Personally I prefer Plasma Pump Action. For quite low price you get pretty decent gun. Laser is useful in the last stage when you cannot trap yourself. Do not purchase flamer - it sucks and devours ammo like a monster.
