View Full Version : Times of Lore char selection

It seems that you always end up with the barbarian, no matter which character you choose in the whdload version of "Times of Lore (http://hol.abime.net/1440)".

If you follow the instructions from the patch, you have to run the game once to see the intro and select the character (with "Start new game"), and then you can play normally (with "Return to Times of Lore"). I suppose that the information is stored in "SAVEGAME.DAT" but it isn't updated at all.

The first time I tried to play with the valkyrie, I was like: "Damn, this girl has a lot of testosterone."

Am I missing something ?

Hmm doesn't work for me either.

OK then that could be a patch bug. Thanks for trying.

Just wanted to add that I used the KGWHD pack and WinUAE.

Tried it on my A1200, no problems here. I selected & played the Valkyrie character.

There's even a bouncing boobies animation. :laughing

Really? Must play this at once... ;)

The valkyrie, really ? Are you sure ? You know, barbarians have long breaded hairs and big boobies too. Does he/she smell more like a bear or like a fish ?

Well, that's odd. Did you try with the KGWHD pack ? And, on real hardware, after you've selected your hero, does it go back to the game menu or to the workbench ?

Thanks for trying. :)

Totally unrelated but, I prefer the C64 version of the game. The playing screen is bigger, the music is from Galway... The C64 is simply well exploited. And they are bouncing too, Druid. ;)

It should be a woman, unless this Barbarian isn't wearing a Valkyrie suit. Yep, tried KG's preinstalled game. ;)

..does it go back to the game menu or to the workbench ?

OK, I'll test with some WinUAE tweaking then. Later.

Thanks.

This should be the Valkyrie? Looks pretty much like a Barbarian wearing a suit :D

You took this screenshot with WinUAE ? KG pack too ?

If yes, do you remember which config you used ?

Thanks for trying, mate. :)

Sorry did it with a disk version on WinUAE. If the KG pack version doesn't require a registered WHDLoad I will test it for you mate. It would be nice if you upload WHDLoad game to the zone :) I'm away for the evening, but will try to get it working tomorrow.

Ah, thanks Retro! You know : the laziness :D

I don't think it'll require a registered version of WHDLoad. The readme (http://www.whdload.de/games/TimesOfLore.html) file says nothing about that. Mine is registered anyway, so this isn't where the problem comes from.

OK, so there's no need to upload the game. Thanks again my friends. :)

I get the same problem. This makes it completely pointless to play the game as it is impossible to save.

Hi Groundhog,

I've tested the WHDLoad version with WinUAE and had the same problem. No file in the directory is updated and you start with the Barbarian. I tried some variations of kickstarts and memory configs, but that didn't help.

@Retro
Which kickstart and memory config has your real Amiga 1200?

KS 3.0 with 10MB in total. I guess you can't fix it with another config. The slave needs maybe a WinUAE fix, like some other games.

Thanks for the info Retro. Already tried it with a kick 3.0, 2 MB chip and 8 MB fast config. Didn't know that there are special fixes for WinUAE. Have to play the Paranoimia disk crack to watch the bouncy boobs then ;)

I've tried different options for whdload with no luck. As Minuous said, there's no point playing the game if you can't see some bouncing action.

Anyway, thanks for your tests CyberDruid.

Sad news but, again, if you have to play with floppies, choose the ones sized at 170Kb. ;)

Okay I will have a look at your beloved C64 version then ;)

This issue (not saving games) has been fixed for the latest WHDLoad slave version (1.2), thanks CFOU. Also I have made a character editor for it (available on Aminet). Enjoy.
