A nice Sci-Fi adventure in Sierra style. Very untypical for Psygnosis, but i like it. Any chances for a WHDLoad install? :)

Sadly the sequel never came out for the amiga only pc

This is the first original Amiga game I bought, got Universe at the same time, both on my shelf and in mint condition.
IUC has some of the worst ingame music I've heard, the tunes are soooo boring....

It has conversion notes but it doesn't actually have the PC listed as conversion hardware in HOL.
SORT IT HOL GUYS.

I would also like to know if it's possible to fix the mouse lag that plagued the Amiga version of the game? It felt like I was pulling the pointer with a rubber band.

Talking of nice PC adventures, today I bought Dreamfall the longest journey. £5 in HMV. Is it any good?
StarEye
24 January 2008, 23:11
Yes it is. Well, at least the story is good. The puzzles aren't all that, and the interface is kinda weak. Not to mention it has some annoyingly pointless stealth sections.
But overall, I enjoyed the game very much, simply for the story, music, atmosphere and graphics. It's not quite The Longest Journey, but it does feel like one.

BTW, the popup screenshot for Innocent 2 is broken on the main HOL entry page.
I imagine the PC version is better as the Amiga version doesn't seem to be AGA.

I love games like these. I got that and Dreamfall, the sequel to The Longest Journey. It's a shame, but the developers have said that due to not making enough money, they are unlikely to finish the - proposed -trilogy :crying

Shame when that happens, i would have loved another Advent Rising - had it's flaws but the story was great and it played well

Hehhe, no worries, I actually AM working on it, i.e. it's not forgotten. :) However, fixing the f....ed up mouse crap is trickier than I first expected so I guess it'll take a while until I have a proper slave (or just give up trying to fix/recode the utterly crappy mouse handling).

I assume this is a custom mouse driver for the game. There is no chance to use another one, without recoding it complete?

To recode it is actually not the problem, the problem is that I want to have smooth (i.e. usuable) mouse behaviour and that involves a lot more than just recoding the mouse stuff. But I still have some ideas that I want to try out as soon as I have some time. Patience please. :-)

Sure, i can wait. But just release it, if you can't fix the mouse controls. I can live with it. :)
StingRay
09 January 2009, 01:39
That's what I will do once I have no idea left how to fix the mouse stuff. :) But I don't want to give up that fast as exactly this jerky mouse handling was the reason I stopped playing the game back in the day even though I found the story/gfx etc. quite good.

@Stingray ,
Hello , are you still working on Goal too ?
Sorry if it's not the subject here...
Thanks.

Yep, I'm still working on that one too, I totally recoded the old Mr.Larmer slave (based on a custom fix I made years (well, more than a decade already) ago), however, there are still problems with loading the replays... So same here, patience please! :)

Anyone know what the rarer version HOL is referring to is? SPS doesn't say anything about it either.

Stingray still works on the WHDLoad patch. I assume the mouse control patch is trickier than he thought. He probably dumped his own German version and got then the IPFs. Can't remember this exactly.

Working on it from time to time but it has low priority since it is quite a boring job to patch this game. And I still don't really have an idea how to fix the horrible mouse control. So ask again in a year or so. ;P

02 December 2011, 20:04
Ok, thanks for the update. I will surely annoy you next year. ;)
StingRay
02 December 2011, 20:07
Maybe I'll release the patch without improved/fixed (as for me, that is a bug which spoils the complete game) mouse controls. So far I refuse to do that though as that problem has been annoying me since I first played (the otherwise fine) game. Fixing the Goal! bug only took me 14 years, let's see how long I'll need to fix this one. :D

The annual annoying bump. Any news? :)

12 February 2013, 18:34
I will release the patch soon! Most probably it will be with the original (crappy) mouse control as I couldn't find a way to fix that and I don't want to delay the patch any longer. Today I cleaned up the patch code a bit and so far there is only one problem left to fix (happens in the disk version on A500 too), sometimes the status panel is flickering for some weird reason. Once that's fixed I'll release the patch.

13 February 2013, 17:02
I have fixed the problem with the flickering status panel! Good thing I completely reversed the interpreter when I was cracking the manual protection back in 2008, came quite handy now! :) Patch will most probably be released in the next days.

I have just sent the Innocent Until Caught patch to Wepl, it should be available on the WHDLoad site shortly.

Great, once again i have to thank you. I assume the German TOSEC version is supported too? Looks like an uncracked original.
StingRay
19 February 2013, 17:02
Supported are 3 versions: English, German and French. Which means the german TOSEC version is most probably supported too (I used my very own german version when I created the patch).

20 February 2013, 00:06
Mmh, i get garbled texts with the German TOSEC version. Missing letters and problems with umlauts on my Amiga (WHDLoad). Happens too if i try it from disk images in WinUAE. Can you please upload your IPF installed version?

This happens in my version too, the font doesn't have the needed umlauts. I may fix this in a later version of the patch (which means: I have to draw new chars for the font...)
Retro-Nerd
20 February 2013, 00:24
Hahaha! They sold it this way? And yes, the mouse control sucks. Besides that it looks really interesting. Anyway, i will wait for your font patch before i take a deeper look. :)
StingRay
20 February 2013, 00:26
Yes, they did. :) I don't think the german version was tested much, there also were some other quite silly mistakes in the code (completely wrong NTSC check f.e.) which makes me believe it was a rush job at the end.
StingRay
20 February 2013, 01:25
I have fixed the problem, wasn't as bad as I thought, there was a bug in the routine which calculates the width for each char, it didn't handle the special chars correctly. Updated patch will be available on the WHDLoad site tomorrow errm this evening. :)
