does anyone remember an old amiga game with a bear in it.
you could control him to jump onto little iceblocks and had to avoid
pengiuns and stuff.
it was in german i think and im not sure if it was called 'oscar'
or 'oswald'
my missus used to play that for hours..amongst other things lol

The game is Oswald (of the Ice Floes) from 1989. If you want, I can upload it for you.

Yeah it sounds a lot like Oswald. Too bad they never released Super Oswald for the Amiga. It was released on both C64 and on the PC (With it's superior CGA graphics:rolleyes) but apparently not on the Amiga.

can anyone upload a working with emulators version to the zone? I just tried imaging my version but it failed to run on neither winUAE nor winfellow. A500 setup yielded a freeze with some purple garbage flying around screen. A1200 setup just froze.

It's in the Zone!

They did release Super Oswald for the amiga. A danish magazine gave it as a subscription gift and I think it was avaible in the shop 2.
I own the org, but it's kind of hard to copy thx 2 copyprotection.

I never saw the super oswald offer for the Amiga. I got my C64 version of Super oswald by subscribing to that magazine. But I don't think they had amiga versions of it

Is the original you have a boxed version or the coverdisk version? Any chance of scanning the box (if it's a boxed version) or the disk/magazine cover (if coverdisk)? I've never seen any box/disk/ad for this game. I have uploaded the game to the Zone, btw.

You can always dump it with the CAPS tools. Go see http://www.caps-project.org ...
Sorry, but I couldn't resist... Must.. not.. b.e.. lame...

I'm going through the few magazines we have left searching for an ad of super oswald. Indeed it seems it was also for the Amiga.

Hehehe...I find myself saying the same thing in emails and PM's here lately. I am trying to round up all of the people I know with originals to dump their stuff. Or to send their stuff to me to dump.
DPainter turned me onto a good-looking A1200 for sale that, while a tad pricey, I believe I must go for since I just cannot take having a working Amiga any longer. Will keep y'all posted.

Is there a list of what's been contributed so you could check if there's something you have which might work?
And can you check if the original might've been corrupt? It wouldn't be good if you got an original disk with errors on it and used that in your collection meaning people with non-corrupt ones might not consider making a dump of those.

All the ones that have been dumped are on the "Games" page. Apart from some not quite on there yet.
We also have a master list of all the games *we* own, some of which have not been dumped yet - so therefore we do not know if they are good or not.
Yes, we can check if an original might have been corrupted, though obviously our checks can never be 100% full proof. However, we also need the disks to be actually dumped to check them.
When the game is reverse engineered ("analysed") to see exactly how it works so we can document the exact layout of the disk(s) we will also see if something seems wrong with it.
All the dumps so far have had peliminary testing so "they should be okay" but if a dump is bad, we can either get the contributor to dump it again, or we can just give up and say it is a broken disk. Serious testing comes for free when the disk is analysed - but not all that which has been dumped has undergone this treatment.
Hope that answers your question!

I don't own a scanner, sorry
I do own the boxed version, I don't think there is any coverdisk.

If you're interested I have a small (very small) black/white picture of the box from an ad in an old magazine. I could scan that for you if you'd like Twisting.

Well it's not a terribly good scan but it's the best I have right now. I remember having a full page ad for the game with the box art on it, but that issue seems to have been lost. I know we had over 14 issues of that particular magazine, but I can only find 2. If I find them again I'll look up the ad.

Drake, thanks so much. The scan looks fine. Of course the other one you describe also sounds wonderful. I really love the whole boxart, advert thing (hey, I collected movie posters when I was a kid...these are just the replacement for that exploitative commercial art fetish...) :D

Just to fill up the history department:
I saw Oswald being played on the Danish TV back then! People called during the show and played the game via voice command. Pretty neat in the late 1980's!
Later they introduced the game "Hugo" in the same show, so I suspect that Oswald is of the same breed, e.g. some obscure danish group which might have founded a software company later on. (Just my guess, though)
;)

Well it wasn't so much voice commands as pressing the buttons on your touch tone telephone which the game reacted to. It was run in an old friday night show called Eleva2eren (the 2 in elevator would be the channel called TV2), as far as I remember Super Oswald didn't see the light of day on the show though as the touch tone action wasn't really cut out for the more fluid motion.
Subsequently they dropped Oswald for Hugo which was still played in the same way with a button press, and later Hugo 2 (3 levels, like in one of the 2 Hugo 2's available on the Amiga though not seperated like the disk versions but rather shuffled). They carried on with this for a short while until the show stopped.
