Some expanded CDTV pictures..
Still need 2MB Chip RAM expansion + 2MB Agnus and it is finished (hint, hint :D)
Extended ROM EPROMs (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/extended_eprom.jpg). 2x27C4001 = 4 switchable extended ROM banks. (1.0, 2.07, 2.30 and empty) Extra wires because 27Cx000 (obsolete type) and 27Cx001 have 2 pins swapped. (resistors are pull down resistors for bank-switching)
Kickstart EPROM (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/kickstart_eprom.jpg) 27C160 = 4 switchable 512K banks. (1.2, 1.3, 2.04, 3.1. One bank will be replaced with "3.9" ROM in future)
RAM expansion and joystick port adapter (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/ram_expansion_and_joystick_port_adapter.jpg). Elbox 8MB Fast RAM expansion (+clock battery) in CPU socket and joystick port adapter installed.
Joystick ports (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/joystick_ports_installed.jpg)
Full mainboard view (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/mainboard.jpg)
CDTV SCSI expansion (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/scsi_expansion.jpg)
SCSI->IDE->CF adapter chain (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/scsi_ide_cf_adapters.jpg) and #2 (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/scsi_ide_cf_adapters_2.jpg) ACard AEC-7720U IDE to SCSI bridge -> 3.5"IDE to 2.5"IDE adapter -> 2.5"IDE to CF-adapter :)
Removed SRAM slot (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/removed_sram_slot.jpg) Does not fit anymore.
Finished CDTV without memory card flap (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/cdtv_cf.jpg)
Finished CDTV with memory card flap (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/cdtv_cf_hidden.jpg) Looks perfectly normal :)

Could you clear something up for me I asked in another thread as to weather a 3.9 rom exsisted, and people said basically they did not know?
Thats some nice work, it looks like theres some work room left in there thankfully :)
I never had a CDTV I had a A570 :(

It does not exists physically. It is ROM image with setpatch romupdates merged using utilies here: http://www.doobreynet.co.uk/beta/
I do have A570 too :)
(offtopic btw, please do not ask about roms anymore)

@Toni:
Now THAT's my kind of circuit-bending! :cool :bowdown
I hope you find your 2MB Chip RAM expansion + 2MB Agnus too. :)
Who knows what next..? Find room for an A500 accelerator?
I don't suppose it was you who bought that Derringer 030 from eBay??
Would be lovely to see if a Viper 530 would fit with the lid on...
or
Ooooo :cool (http://www.cdtv.org.uk/projects.html#cpu)
and
Aaaah (http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/designs/CDTV_Clockport/cdtv_clockport.html) -> Sound, Subway?
The possibilities are endless...
...now where can I find my own CD32?
@DrF:
AFAIA: 3.9 roms never existed in reality - just patches to 3.1...
...but there's nothing to stop you from using those patches to roll your own 3.9 + anything else you want & then burn that to eeprom.
Not just nerdy-cool... useful for speeding boot-up & adding updates specific to your setup.
For myself I don't have the equipment ( eeprom burner, not a cruel rumor! ) so I go the software route of using a kick-rom proggie & lose some ram.

Ah, that clears that up, I was thinking you could buy them and plug them in say a A1200 or something :P

You know... that Elbox 8MB ram would work quite well in an A600 in conjunction with the A6CPC board me thinks.... I tinhk theres enough room / physical size is there two...
how much are those 8mb cdtv ram boards? i cannot tell from the pic, (i may need new glasses) but does this board provide its own CDAC or does it poach it from Angus ?

There are no extra connections (two wires are for clock battery backup)

@Toni
thanks for the reply... its indeed a great looking CDTV, i love retr0-fitting i tihnk its in the blood :D
so elbox do a 2MB version eh? (interesting..... very interesting....)
Out of curiosity wouldn`t an A500 (68k socket) Memory upgrade work for a CDTV ? (space not being a factor)
Am i right in assuming that the the Elbox uses all the 8MB of configurable space?#
:)

The Elbox 8MB card does use all of the configuration space unfortunately... Which is a shame.
A500 accelerators do indeed work fine in the CDTV (even with the Elbox 8MB RAM :D)
Also the clockport adapter works in a CDTV although the chip you have to attach a wire to has a different socket number.. It's U10 on the CDTV and not U8 like in the 500... (From what I remember)

Yes, very nice! I love seeing pics of people's retro collections.

True. Pretty much the first multimedia machine designed for the living room, well before its time - only now are HTPC's and media centre consoles/PCs beginning to take off.
Once again, a Commodore first but unfortunately the world wasn't ready for media centres back when it was released. :(

Here is my "version 2" CDTV expansion modification. (yes, I got another CDTV and decided to move all expansion hardware to this one) Includes single EPROM hack. (switchable between 1.3+1.0 or 3.1+2.07. In future it will have custom standard 1.3+1.0 and custom 3.x+custom extended ROM) and Mini Megi 2MB Agnus + 2MB chip RAM.
CDTV "v2" modified mainboard (http://www.winuae.net/files/cdtv/mainboard_hack_v2.jpg)
(btw, A-Card 7720U firmware 3.86 is buggy, causes write errors with CDTV. 3.88 fixes the problem. Interestingly Supradrive worked fine, CDTV didn't..)

I have found another useful CDTV expansion:
A CDTV keyboard adapter.With this small device
it was possible to connect an A500 keyboard to the CDTV.

You cannot fit an A500 030 expansion inside a CDTV without modding the case iirc. I'm pretty sure it was someone on EAB who made some crazy expanded CDTV. They made did some mods to the case by making it taller somehow.

Awesome mods Toni ! could you elaborate little bit about your rom switcher setup ? I'm planning to do something similar with a 27c800 rom on my A500. I need to drive the highest address pin high-low with a switch right ? what kind of pull-up pull-down resistors are needed ?

Oh and it has a 33MHz 020 in it now.. lol OS3.9 is running nicely... And I'll update that thread amd post pics when my zorro busboard is completed! (It's a tough one that, lol) And one that's done I may add an A2000 CPU slot to the busboard so I can put the original case back on it.. heh :p
