I have Valhalla III on floppy.

Does anybody know how to get it to run on a real Amiga 1200 upgraded to 3.5.

The first disk loads OK, then it asks for the Data disk which is disk 2, it refuses to load this disk, it just bombs out.

Thanks for your time.

Valhalla III was written in Amos? I had no idea. It definately sets some difference between the other Amos games I've seen.

Hehehehe. Amos Suckz Ass. Blitz rules the Amiga basic programming world.
Here's a question. How many commercial games were programmed using Amos? Ugh.

Here are a list of commercial Blitz games I know of:

Gloom
Gloom Deluxe
Skidmarks
Super Skidmarks
Worms
Guardian
Super Tennis Champs

Any that I've forgotten?

Wasn't Super Tennis Champs written in AMOS? Tennis Champs was...

A Loriciel game called Builder Land was written in AMOS.

I thought Builderland, though a bit primitive, had a very nice idea and gameplay.

I think there was another game a bit like it. Only except of having a square to select stuff with you had a person who could fly around getting stuff.

I knew it would be mentioned someday. :)
Yes, Drake, you've just hit the bull's eye...
Gee, if I didn't know that BRAT came out after this one, I'd say this is a sackful of swag. :D
Ahhh, Bobic rates this game 74%!! OMG, that can't be true! :shocked:shocked
The game idea is BRAT-like: your hero walks and walks and you have to remove all obstacles in time, avoiding deadly missteps.
The look is like "Wonderboy in Monsterland"; the font used is the same as in those japanese-ish style Arcade classics (Rainbow Islands, New Zealand Story...)

I wasn't quite thinking about brat. Let me dig up the name of the game I was thinking of.

Ok the game I was thinking of was also a game by Loriciel called The cartoons from 1993

I think it is Loriciel’s The Cartoons. The sprite you control in this game by joystick, is a superman-like hero who can fly around a bit. In this game he must create a path for a little bloke who just walks from left to right. I have never managed to finish even Level 1.

Edit: Drake was a few seconds faster with his response :(

I never managed to finish level 1 for neither the cartoons nor Brat nor Builderland. I thought Brat was especially devious since you had to work so darn fast. In Builderland the screen follows the guy, and in superheroes you're free to roam. In brat you have to run with the little kid or the screen catches up to him.

You should install it to hard disk...

Drake, that's definitely because you're running it on an emulator! Same here. I could get to level 8 without ANY cheating, but only on the real thing! Your mouse must be able to make 100% accurate movements, and this is simply not possible on the emulator - mouse movement is too slow and too jerky sometimes in this game.

But Brat is definitely a game you have to find the rhythm for; it took me a while to get my mouse hand in sync with the game's timing, as I found it easy to make a mistake or to get flustered and do the wrong thing. Kind of the same as when you get to the very end of your Tetris game and you know you just can't manipulate the pieces any further...

I did try Brat on my real Amiga. I must admit it's a bit easier to control. But still horribly hard.

If you still havn't got it working, there are 2 choices I know of.

1 buy the vulcanology CD from weird science (£4.99+£1 P&P), you will als get valhalla 1+2, tiny troops, bog rats, burnout, hillsealido, jet pilot & timekeepers 1+2

all the Valhalla's work on my OS3.9 A4000 :)

2 I can email you (or put on the zone) a new copy of disk 2, you just might have a corrupt copy.

Now for my problem :)

Anyone know how to mode promote any of the valhalla's?
I want to play them on a NTSC screen (because my TFT monitor won't display PAL) but because it's AMOS newmode
doesn't pick it up :(

I'm using "AmigatoDoublentsc" to make sure os compatible PAL games use the VGA monitor instead. Westwood games including Dune 2 work well for example. I forgot the exact name of the aminet archive. There are executables like amigatopal, amigatodoublepal etc. inside the .lha so I doubt it's name was amigatodoublentsc

I can upload the executable if you wish.

My monitor doesn't take DoubleXXX refresh rates :(

Another AMOS game was Genesia, methinks.

And The Cartoons.. pah! Donn;t even bother, what an awful game

Found it :)

The archive is: http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/pub/aminet/util/boot/AmigaToNTSC.lha

pity it doesn't work, I do get an NTSC screenmode but on a pal screen :(

I've tried all the patchers I can find on aminet, but most patch the graphics or intuition libraries, unfortunately AMOS doesn't use them :(

You might need to move all screenmodes except the ones you want to use away from the devs/monitors (but I'm not sure). You'll also need to have the one you like to use in your devs/monitors (I'm sure :))

I only have NTSC and Picasso96/PicassoIV/P4_flickerfixer in there anyway. oh well, I suppose it's time to dig out one of my pal monitor's and run a dual monitor system for a while :)
