Would like a list of all of the eab-users best games that uses a 4 player adapter. Anyone got any he/she wants to promote? :)

Do you mean Amiga games that use the 4-player adapter (although I don't really know of any) or games on any machine in general that use it (that's a lot easier)?

poppe
20 January 2002, 17:16
..on amiga. like for example hired guns or xtreme racing. i guess theres alot of these 4player adapter games out there.. so i tought eab could give me a hint where to start looking. =)

You sure Hired Guns was specifically 4-player? As in multiplayer? I know you could control 4 characters in one mission in the game, but really you only need one person to control them.

poppe
20 January 2002, 17:52
Well then i guess you´ve missed where hired guns is best. Multiplayer hired guns gives so much more than just playing all four characters yourself.

You can select everything from 1 - 4 players. Using everything from mouse to keyboard to joystick and sega megadrive pad...

Try it out. 4 players is almost to many, we usually play 3... i just love games where multiplayer is cooperative instead of playing against one another...

Dynablaster :D

..actually i prefer masterblaster. alot of options and freeware....

My favourite game supporting the adapter would be Blitzbombers (Aminet).
This is the best Bomberman clone you'll ever come across, including
cute subgames, and a lot of funny extras... (requires AGA and some
FastRAM though...) We played that for hundreds of hours after we
built the adapter....

Another nice title is "Great Courts 2". Max Rally also rocks (sort of
MicroMachines with four player mode).

I'll append a list of all games supporting the adapter to this posting. I'm still
working on this (will be part of my soon-to-come homepage), so it's probably
incomplete and there may be some faults in there....

Does anybody know if the following titles support the adapter? I still have to
check them...

- Eat the Whistle
- Street Racer
- Which parts of the Skidmarks series ?
- Micro Machines 2

Freeware:

- Blast Squad (MantaSoft)
- Spod Racer (MantaSoft)
- Monsters of Terror/Nordlicht (Full version anyone?)

Worm Wars supports 4-player joystick adapters, among other input devices. Although since I don't have one myself I was unable to actually test.

Next version will also add support for play by CDTV infrared remote control...

There were a few earlier Amiga titles that used the 4 player adapter facility, though my memory's a tad fuzzy as I only recall reading of them in some Zzap magazine reviews.
There use to be a popular adapter (I think) made by Microdeal(?) that these games used.
One was a shoot-em-up called Leatherneck,(or Leatherface??). I think Kick Off 2 also supported 4 players didn't it?
And there was also a couple of Tennis games that supported extra players.
One of them was by Ubisoft & the other by Loricel.
I don't have the magazines handy so I'll have to look them up later if noone can remember the names....

Yeah, Leathernecks it was :-)

Thanks for all the help everyone. I´m gonna go through all these gametitles one by one and pick some of them out for a upcoming gamingnight.

Thanks.

I just found an adaptor in a small box of s/h games included with an A500, none of which to the best of my knowledge support 4 players. So, what I'd like to know are the names of (as many as possible!) games that use it so I can give it a try?

The Loriciel Tennis game from the other thread it Tennis Cup 2 (Dunno if the 1st one supports it), and the ubi soft one is Great Courts 2 (I also never played the 1st one)

Base Jumpers is a nice platform game that can be played with 4 players, and it's a very fun one.

Over The Net , if I am not mistaken, uses it too. It's a nice beach volley game.

Can't remember any other game now.

Return of the thread! (It is...)

There's probably loads that haven't been listed here. Air Taxi is an obvious one.

4 please!

The Tennis games that support 4 players are the Great Courts/Pro Tennis Tour series. Brilliant fun.

Skidmarks, Skidmarks 2 etc, also support this device.

Another tennis game that supports 4-player adaptor: Super Tennis Champs. Superb game. :cool

As for your list, Korodny:

Eat the Whistle - Planned but not implemented, afaik

Street Racer - Yes

Micro Machines 2 - n/a, as it never came out for the Amiga

The Freeware games I don't know about. Blast Squad is a Bomberman clone, so I would expect it would support 4 players.

Here is a thread about favourite multiplayer games, which has lots of references to 4-player games: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5308 :)

I have a parallel one and it works fine with every game I've tried.

Rebel-CD32
26 March 2007, 22:21
I wonder, would a serial one work with all the games that were designed to use the parallel one, or would the games need additional support for it?

I know Super Skidmarks comes with directions on how to make a serial four-player adapter to use in that game. I'm also wondering if the same plans could be modified to use the CD32's serial/keyboard port, so a CD32 four-player adapter could be made.

Graham Humphrey
26 March 2007, 22:41
I think the games would need patching to be honest, though I'm no expert.

Another good multiplayer game - Tank Wars on Aminet in the game/2play section. Not that I'm biased you understand ;)

Can't seem to find a photo / image anywhere of a 4 player adapter, only instructions for building one :sad

... How to build the four player adaptor (http://gutjahr.free.fr/index.php?language=en&page=buildadaptor)
... Amiga 4 Joysticks (http://www.hardwarebook.info/Amiga_4_Joysticks)

Instructions for how to build a multitap were included in the manual to classic Amiga racing sequel Super Skidmarks [citation needed]. The Amiga multitap would plug into the computer's serial port and provide two additional ports for use.

I *think* dlfrsilver has one, maybe he can take a photo and post? *** or anybody else that has one *** ;)

4-ply adapter plugs into parallel port. I built one myself recently to use with ppjoy to connect old joysticks to pc... it's really easy to built one if you get the right connectors. Just make sure to not get lost in cable salad ;)

First: Great list, but the list is (naturally) incomplete, it misses ingenious gems like for example Space Taxi 3 and Tritus.

Second: I have to try that. I also think I once read that there is a beta version of Masterblaster ported to pc by the original author. Apparently that version included netplay?!?!
Never found it though... seems pretty elusive, if it exists...

Thanks for those, I'll add them to the list then. If you know about other titles, don't hesitate to list them aswell.

I found an interesting thread about list of 4 player games, here is the 'summary'
Super Skidmarks (8 players with serial linkup) dl cars on aminet
Blitzbombers, Max Rally and Kickoff2 seems to support it,
Hired Guns
Gauntlet 2
Bratwurst - on aminet
Master Blaster 2 - on aminet, Dynablaster, Bug Bomber
Minerunner - Loderunner aminet
Zerberk
Monsters of Terror AGA
Poweroids - Asteroids with 4 players.
AirTaxi, on Aminet
Viper (on aminet) is a fun multiplayer snake, keyboard only
6-Tris - Tetris, but for up to 6 players.

I think that some games used different/special pinout, or do they all use the same adapter?

It seems Gauntlet 2 has the 3rd & 4th joysticks "swapped around" compared to WinUAE, I assume it's a bug in the game rather than in the emulator?

Worm Wars is meant to support it, it is broken in V8.62 but I have fixed this and V8.63 will be released in the next few days.
