View Full Version : MP3@64 on KickFlashOS4 in A4000D
just connected the mp3@64 on my kickflash, easy installation, excellent output quality and fast response... it is great!
it also has normal cd-rom-type audio out...
another geek little card :laughing :D :D :spin

Bah.....the KickFlash won't work in my Micronik A4000T :( Do you know of any other clockport add-ons that the mp3@64 works with in an A4000?
it connects to clockports...
- Highway USB
- Unity Prototype
- X-Surf
- ISDN-Surfer
- VarIO
- Buddha flash
- Kickflash
do u have it in the upper 4 slots? maybe only those have DMA , that was the case of the RBM busboard I also have, it replicates the original busboard that has 4 zorroIII slots, the extra 3 don't do DMA...
The last time I saw my A4000T at my technician's place, I think the Mediator + PCI cards blocked the first 4 Z2/3 slots on the Micronik busboard. That's the only way he could claim a maximum of 3 Z2/3 slots, which I'd planned to fill with the Z3 Fastlane, Thylacine USB and KickFlash cards. Since the KickFlash card didn't work, I gave him the Elbox eFlash 4000 card to try instead. Before he tries it, however, he has to put in a beefier PSU as the original Micronik 230W PSU was having trouble booting the machine with all the HDs and PCI/Zorro cards that are stuffed into the tower.
Anyway, to cut a very long story, I'm just wondering how well my A4000T will play MP3s using a PCI sound card (Terratec 512i) as opposed to the Delfina Lite that I had in there before. Got any ideas? If the answer is not very well, then it'd be nice to be able to use something like the mp3@64 instead.
is it a 060 A4000? then it would eat 90% of your cpu LOL
or u have a ppc? then the ppc would decode that...
so a hardware option is better...
I also notice some 1/2sec delays with the mp3@64, every 10mins or so, but it is normal for the driver to do that (as the readme says) not a big deal having in mind that the system is 95% free to do other stuff...
Yep, I've got a 150Mhz 604e in the A4000T. I always used the Delfina previously to play MP3s. How does PPC decoding of MP3s compare to the mp3@64 or a Z2 sound card......do you know? I can't remember if I've ever played MP3s using the PPC.
if the ppc decodes the mp3's then the quality of the soundcard matters lots :)
u will be fine with the pci soundcard, just get amigaamp and in prefs->engine sellect warpOS or powerUP (better WOS) no need for a hardware decoder then!
150mhz eh? an early p5 model? do u have pics of it? maybe submit to BBOAH? anything different on this card? :spin

Cool......thanks for the info! :cool

Don't have any pics, but there's nothing special about it. I bought it from a guy in Wales about 8-9 years ago.

Sounds great with the hardware decoding and stuff, but I wonder about this half second delay.
@keropi
Can you describe it? Does the sound just stop for half a second and continue where it left off, or do you miss half a second of the actual song or what?
Doesn't sound like a "good" normal, do you know is there any way to get around it or will they update the driver?

there is a slight pause, like when there is an overload , you don't miss 1/2sec, it continues where it left off...
I had some email communication with Chris Hodges (the driver author , also he wrote Poseidon) and he said he would update the driver with some new way that will eliminate these delays..
it would be a good idea if u get a mp3@64 to email him saying thanks for the driver , so he knows ppl use it so he updates it... :spin

yeah was gonna do that. the whole point of me buying this was to play mp3 at low cpu usage and also to free the isa slot! :D

do you know when abouts he will release a new driver?

how about a donation keropi??? that'll inspire him even more to update driver! :p

dunno, have u got the mp3@64 ?
and free the ISA slot? what do u mean?

should get the mp3@64 tomorrow or tuesday. i need the isa slot free for putting a pc isa card (gfx or sfx) for when i get my sbc. if i use a zorro card it would cover that inline isa slot. so i get an amiga soundcard (sort of) and still mhave 3 isa slots free! :D

OK i emailed him again asking maybe if a donation would help? i said that the only thing i am interested in is erasing that time delay thing! maybe he can release a quick and dirty hack!

i just tested it myself. it is very good. and yeah the delay is literally a split-split second and 0.1-0.2 and you dont miss an mp3. of course it would be better without delay, but not as bad as i thought. the author guy said he maybe inspired if he got donations, but time was the factor for him. so wot you waiting for keropi send him a donation mr money bags! :D

lol.. I'm the same, I buy up everything to the limit of what I can afford :)
But it does seem to me that when it comes to getting stuff you have to be quick off the mark to get there before you keropi :) You always seem to have cash to buy stuff... Therefore you must be made of money...
At least that's how the theory goes...
@keropi and AMIGAZ: leave some hardware for the rest of us ;) Just messing with ya :)
