I noticed that some games crashes with "Privilege violation" errors, but worked fine after a reboot. A lot of slaves needs updates, as it seems.

Yeah I've had a few of these in WinUAE, I found booting in my "SAFE" config solves this though.

Ah I see. I don't think I've ever seen that error on my real Amiga.
I'll be listing all the errors next to the games once I pass on the update. Some people may have found working versions so I can include them. (In the case of illegal instructions at least)

27 April 2007, 16:38
so whats the deal with desert strike? can it be included as a request now?
same question re: Antheads.... you used to have a pack for it KG... did you just use the ICFTD slave or something?
also can i request Wipe Out.....? oh wait... no i cant :( (so desperate for a whd slave for this!)
additiononal requests: powerdrift.... i see all the others from those early sega games, but cant find that one. (maybe i'm being blind again)
killergorilla
27 April 2007, 17:20
Just ignore Desert Strike it's already in the April pack :)
As for Antheads, it was never officially released as a whdload slave, it uses a generic slave like the installs for Street Rod 1 & 2 so I've never included it. I only really include official slaves. I'll dump it in the zone if anyone's interested but don't bug me (or the whdload team) if it doesn't work :)
You're not being blind with PowerDrift, it's not in any packs so far. I think I've already done it this month and it's in the April pack but I'll have to check.
As for WipeOut I remember you asking me in your first post (or one of your first ones) over at amigagames.com, that was a while back!

really?? sheesh... longtime!
with Wipe Out, i live in hope of an installer one day... i tried to see if i could find the files extracted in the cracked ADF, searching with a hex-editor, in the hope of "aiding" their ripping.. alas, it was well beyond me!
another one for the "not installed in near future" i guess :(

There are WHDLoad patches for Bard's Tale II & III from Traxx. They are no official, but i don't know why.

Why on earth would anyone need a WHDLoad slave for Bard's Tale 2 or 3?! They can both be installed on hard disk without big efforts... :confused

Because you have a system friendly quitkey and it works on the nearly all Amiga models/configurations. Don't really understand your question, it's obvious.

I've played a lot with BT3 on the following platforms:
Amiga: 500, 2000 and a 3000
KS: 2.0, 3.0, 3.1
WB 2.x, 3.1, 3.9
CPU: 68000, 020, 030, 040, 060
Graphics: OCS, ECS, CV4, PII, PIV
It always worked flawlessly and you can at anytime switch back to the WB or cleanly quit the game. I guess BT2 behaves the same way, ain't 100% sure though.
That's why I was asking what's the use of a WHD slave for _these_ games. For many others, for the reasons you wrote, WHD is of course great.

stability. I have not had the luck you have with BTII. Nothing compares to the WHD installs if you ask me. Even when there IS an adequate original installer, i will use the WHD, as i am always finding problems with screenmodes / quits etc with the originals.
there's no benefit to NOT using the WHD.
WHDLoad also always includes fixes, password removalls etc.
Only downsize is time when accessing disk for save etc.
But preload option is great!

hi KG! i just downloaded your last pack! thank you very much for that:great
i noticed you included king of chicago 1.0 slave..i once asked you to check for a bug i noticed in a sequence where you have to shoot at a shop front from a car (acces fault)..you answered you checked it out and you had the same bug.. does the version you included in last package also has the same bug ?
also have you checked your bat_fr version on a regular 1200 (ie os3.0 with 68ec20 because dfrsilver reported it works on 0s3.5 )..as reported in another thread, mine requires pc2amiga to be run on regular basis to make it work..(i get a TRAP#0 exception after a few days if not relaunching pc2amiga - i guess there must be other ways to make it work but pc2amiga is the only reliable short term patch i found to solve this issue)
anyway thanks again for your great job once again!
killergorilla
08 May 2007, 15:53
Hehe, you noticed the pack then :)
I did post a news item about it but the mods aren't awake yet to authorise it yet ;)
I forgot all about King Of Chicago to be honest, it's probably the one with the same bug :( I'll have to dig up the thread and add it to the 'problem games'
I've not tried BAT Fr indepth either as I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing :) How long do I have to run it for to get the error you noticed?
pbareges
08 May 2007, 16:22
it happens right at the start of the game.;)
killergorilla
08 May 2007, 16:25
Yeah but you said the error doesn't happen straight away? Happens a couple of days down the line or something?
pbareges
08 May 2007, 16:59
yes but that may be because i transfer files downloaded from my pc with pc2amiga tool (which is also my patch to the problem..just launching pc2amiga solves my problem for a few more days when it occurs)..so once copied through pc2amiga to my amiga (1200, os3.0, 8mb fastmem) it takes me 2 to 3 days before the problem occurs.
depending on the way you copy files to your amiga, it may occur at first instance i guess....:nuts

i tried hard but there was no way to reproduce the bug under uae/classicwb based on wb3.0 and ks3.0...so i guessed i'm stuck with this for the rest of my life..:( but my config is not fancy at all and i'm really wondering what could make this particular slave fail (when 500 other ones perfectly work!!)...
anyway, at least i know how to patch it when i want to play this game...
ADDED : + my config is vanilla a1200, 8mb fastmem, ks3.0 and os3.0 and the game fails even when "booting without startup-sequence" (so this is not due to my wb environment)

Yeah, though I haven't actually submitted a bug report yet...
I'll see if I can can send one sometime soon if nobody else has beaten me to it?

I seem to remember that Deluxe Galaga (AGA, with latest game & whdload & slave) hanged after a while - mostly when i got a higher score :(
Running on a real A1200 with blizz030/32mb
Could you guys please check, if it's working ok for more than a few minutes?
Would love to see this one in the EAB compo :]

This games freezes/crashes from time to time. I noticed this years ago, without WHDLoad on a real Amiga with a blizzard030 card.

I've played it a reasonable amount (the whdload) version and don't seem to recall it crashing/freezing at all, but that was a little while back.
Has it done this in the past for you Shoonay or only with the later whdloads?

The non whdload version crashed not very often for me, and probably the AGA version only. I can't remember it exactly.
Didn't tried the WHDLoad version seriously, because the PC remake Warblade is muuuch better. ;)

I've been playing this game for 11 years and I've never noticed it crash at all (both with WHDLoad and without). Weird.

@Graham Humphrey: Could you please try with the newest whdload/slave/game?
BTW: What config you run it on?

Has it done this in the past for you Shoonay or only with the later whdloads? No, like i said i could've bet my house on that it never ever exited with an error in some of the previous whdloa/slave versions - played many nice games with me buddy. ...or was it before i got me a blizz030 - which happened pretty much the same time :/

Okay, I'll give it a whirl later on and report back.
I've played it on several configs down the years (all real machines) - an A600, a standard A1200, and A1200 with an Apollo 030 card and 4MB Fast RAM, and (my current setup) an Apollo 040 with 32MB Fast RAM. Admittedly I haven't played it a lot on my 040 but when I have I've had no problems with it.

Damn, just had a few tries on the first few levels (gettin' rusty a bit...) and it didn't hang nor exit nor anything... lol :/
I'm sure it will just when i'll be on a highscore :(

Well, I thought I had the WHDLoad version on my HD, but I don't seem to any more. Will have to download that one then :)
I did play it without WHDLoad on my 040-powered 1200 this evening and it worked absolutely flawlessly, if that's worth anything.

I didn't see any June thread for these requests, so I'll post here. I hope that's cool.
My request is for Sneech (http://whdload.de/games/Sneech.html). The full registered version is available from Paul Burkey's website (http://www.shoecakegames.com/sneech/).
The game is already playable from HD, so it's no big deal if it's not included in any packs. It's mainly a completeness thing :)

King Quest 6 in french whdload is crashing with a line 1111 emulator exception
just after you leave the winged lord to see the Oracle.
Must check if the other versions are correctly working.

Tomorrow I'll create new threads.
I have to check what’s included in last updates and what’s in games with errors thread.
I don’t have WHDLoad install ATM on my computer.
