View Full Version : What Amiga games have you finished, WITHOUT CHEATING?

After writing that novel about completing Merv the Merciless, I thought I'd ask you guys what games you've completed without cheating in any way.

Tell us the games title, the approx. amount of time it took you to complete it and any other info you feel relevant :)

Ok here is my first entry. It's late and I can't be bothered to rack my brains, so I'll add others later.

DUNE 2

What a SOB this was. It took me several days to complete, maybe even a week.

I'm sure by the end of it I had a ZZ-top beard, lost several friends due to irritability and lack of sleep, was high on caffeine and had copious amounts of microwave meal cartons lying around my bedroom.

The last level was HARD and took ages to complete. I was 15 (I think, could be younger) when I finished this bad boy, thankfully in the summer holidays or I would have had to skive school :)

The ending wasn't bad, it involved some scene with you becoming king or something - hard to remember.

It took me days to revert back to "normal life". Sleeping was a problem - all I'd see would be little combat units moving in front of my eyes. :)

Integrating myself back into society was also hard; as I felt a huge sense of emptiness not playing the game I'd been glued on 247!

The times below are how long to complete it after days/weeks/months/years of practice:

Another World - 1 hour
Flashback - 3 hours (in one go)
Hunter (all 3 sections - I did save in between each though) - unknown time, several hours at least
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - 2 hours (hard level), 270 pts
Mega-lo-mania - 3 hours
Santa's Xmas Caper - 30 mins
Speedball 2 (knockout and league) - 1 hour for knockout champion and 2 hours for league champ (all games undefeated :)
Super Cars 2 - 1 hour

Many more I can't remember...

The hardest game I completed is Eye of the Beholder 2 !
Figuring out how to open the first door in the underground levels took a few months, then I realized that there was a button :D
Also getting multiclass characters with three classes was not a good idea for they could not level up easily and could not cast good spells soon enough. I restarted the game when I was about to finish it :scream so it took me about two years to complete the game but it was great fun. It's too bad that eob3 hadn't been released on amiga :/ (<--why don't we have a smiley for this?)

The easiest game that I completed is Defender of the Crown. In a few hours, the game was done :)

I completed Another World without cheats, but it sure as hell didn't take me one hour!;) That part in the underground caverns, where you had to dodge man-eating plants and had to flood the place took me a while...

But then again, I remember that, at that time, I had a very dodgy joystick, so perhaps that's why:hooooo :p

Ok, here is my list :)
It is mainly in chronological order, that means sorted starting with the game I completed first and ending with the last. ( the first few ones are maybe in wrong order, because I did the list when I already had completed 10 games or so )

Powerdrift
Zany Golf
Maniax
Crazy Cars
Atax
Pang

EDIT: some more I have finished in the last years:

Last Duel
Odyssey
Robocop
Rallye Master
Torvak the Warrior
Way of the little Dragon
Treasure Island Dizzy
Giddy II
Captain Bonus

Phew, it's quite much already, but that's gaming history since '90. ;)
I also have to add that if a 'continue' option exists in a game then I used it as I don't consider it really cheating. But I didn't use any trainers, cheats or Action Replay ! Racing games were considered as completed if a racing season was finished in potition 1. I also considered games as finished which repeat themselves and start at level 1 again.

The easiest one was probably Dragon Breed since you just have to fly on top of the screen and leave autofire on :)
Other easy ones were Powerdrift, Atax, Sooty & Sweep, Sturmtruppen, Master of Town, Giddy and Final Blow.

Hard ones were Toki, Bloody Afternoon, Katakis, Cisco Heat, Lotus II ( especially the last level !! ), Bill's Tomato Game ( that fu%&ing end of game battle !! ), Wings of Death and probably some more, but since I haven't played some of them again for years I cannot quite remember.

Abandoned Places and both parts of Eye of the Beholder I played together with a friend, and we still play Dungeon Master every two weeks or even monthly and hope to finish it one day :)

Civilisation...usually takes about day of non-stop playing at any level,
Syndicate...though I left the game running overnight to amass money,
Deuteros...takes about 4 hours to get out of the Sun system.:cheese

Games I recall of the top of my head......
Addams Family-2 or 3 days-never wanted to play an intertia based platformer since!!
Final-Fight
Leisure Suit Larry 2-only missed by one point & without any solutions to help-this kept me replaing 24/7 for a few weeks.
Opertaion Stealth-As has been mentioned elsewhere, this game is a complete b****** with the "arcade" sections to finish-never again.
Golden Axe
Silkworm-the copy I'd had actually zapped the official cheat & didn't have any other-not only did I finish it, I did so without the benefit of Autofire-my hand & wrist suffered RSI for days!
Heroes of the Lance-one crap arcade game & a travesty on the wonderful H.O.T.L DRagonlance triology.
I'm sure thee's others but can't recall off hand!

There are only a few games I have finished without a cheat. They all must rank as one of the easiest on Amiga:
- Bart vs the World (Acclaim, 1993) Note: Not all Crusty cards collected
- Darkman (Ocean, 1991)
- Doofus (Prestige, 1993)
- Dragon’s Lair 3: Time Warp (Readysoft, 1993)
- Final Fight (US Gold, 1991)
- Jim Power (Loriciels, 1992)
- Prehistorik (Titus, 1991)
- Turrican (Rainbow Arts, 1990)
- Turrican II (Rainbow Arts, 1991)
- Turrican III (Rainbow Arts, 1993) Note: Finished it in Easy and Normal mode
- Yo! Joe! (Hudson Soft, 1993)

Secret Of Monkey Island
Double Dragon

Well, can't remember more :)
must be some more, but that must be in my Atari ST time...

I've been playing Kick Off 2 for 15 years, this is the only game I've played very intensively. You can say I completed this game too :)

I dont remember many off the top of my head. Mr. Nutz is one, and.. err.... well, the graphic adventures of course (monkey Island 1, Indy 4, Maniac Mansion, Zak McKraken), but you cant cheat at those, or can you?

TikTok
19 December 2001, 21:00
Can't remember that many...
-Monkey Island 2
-The Colenel's Bequest
-Police Quest
-Police Quest 2
-Police Quest 3
-KGB (damn tough)
-F1GP (World Champ at hardest level)
-Syndicate
-Historyline 1914-1918
-Flashback
-Supercars 2
-Dizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk
-Knights of the Sky (I think you can complete this)
-Gunship 2000 (ditto)
-Indy Heat
-Cruise for a Corpse

And I almost completed Dune 2, but always ended in a stalemate on the last level :(

Games I've completed on the Amiga without cheating.

Another world.
Flashback.

I'm afraid that's about it. Never completed Giana sisters, only did that on the C64. And Dizzy prince of the yolkfolk I completed too without cheating but that was on the PC so that doesn't go there.

RetroMan
19 December 2001, 21:36
Hmmm, come on :( Am I really the only one ever completed Giana Sisters :confused

Sadly my disk got corrupted and every image I found on the net crashes at the last level :( Anyone got till there and could upload a working copy ???

Drake1009
19 December 2001, 22:50
How crashes at the last level? The level with just one of those green flying things or the level where you have to fall down to the green flying thing?

I think I'll do an effort to complete and check my copy tomorrow. If I get around to it.

RetroMan
19 December 2001, 23:34
Well, last time I tried is half a year ago, but IIRC the game crashes when the last level loads up (black screen) .... Iīm also gonna play my copy again these days, then Iīll report ;) Thanx for your effort mate :D

20 December 2001, 04:21
Hmm, I've finished many Amiga games without cheating, lemme see what I remember..

Final Blow was the 1st one, I didn't even had an amiga at time (I finished it in my 2nd go, very easy game)

Both Super Cars
Nitro
Arabian Nights
Flashback
Another World
Double Dragon 3
Seek & Destroy
Shadow Dancer
Global Gladiators
T2: The Arcade Game
F17 Challenge
Nigel Mansell (winning EVERY race)
Syndicate
Joe & Mac (Can't remember now if I cheated... remember this game wasn't too hard..hmm)
Epic (and didn't find it so easy as some people state.. strange)
Brutal Sports Football

I also scored 100.000.000 plus in the nightmare table on Pinball Dreams, does that count? :)

that's what I remember now..

There are lots of games I HATE me for not having finished them

like Chaos Engine (could NEVER beat the last boss), A.T.R. (Those damn Moon stages... the car jumps too much). Disposable Hero, Cannon Fodder, Micro Machines (15th stage is IMPOSSIBLE :) ), and a few others I can't bother to remember now :)

DragonStone:
Completed in a day. I quite liked it and suggest it to anyone. Great storyline and good graphics.

Yo Joe!:
Completed in a day. Very good graphics but it's way too easy and after some level I was just collecting extra lives I had 20+ lives when I finished it. Discussed it with a friend and he experianced the same

Champions of Krynn:
Awful graphics, but hey I love DragonLance stuff :) Completed in two months.

Civilization:
Ok everyone finished it, it's lame to be proud just because I finished it. (but I am)

Street Fighter 2:
Same as above

Body Blows:
SF2 clone. Not bad. Finished in a few days

Colonization:
Evil game about killing indians :)

Global Domination:
Strategy game, not remember much, not half as good as civ.

Syndicate:
Skipped a level with cheat because the disk did not load. A bullfrog classic.

Chaos Engine:
This was hard, I finished it in a few months

Dune 2:
Finished it with atreides once and with harkonnen several times. Atreides sonic tank was way too better than ANY other unit in the game but it was hard to control. It took some weeks to finish

Uropa2:
The last game I finised on Amiga without cheating. The big bad guy's name was Bill Setag, does it ring a bell? :D finished in a month

Barbarian 2 (psygnosis):
I love the environments and enemies in this game at some later level there was a surrealistic monster with the best animation I've seen in an amiga game. Very addictive. Though not considered as a classic I prefer it to any other psygnosis game.finished in a week.

Silk Worm:
Heheh everyone knows that. Finished in a few weeks.

Cabal:
Good first person shooterish 2d game. Graphics were bad but it was ok for it's time. Finished in a month.

Darkman:
Average game of the creepy movie. Finished in a few days

DragonNinja:
The arcade version was a special machine with three monitors placed side by side, amiga version is as good as it but there were no extra monitors included in the package :D Finished in a few days.

Entity:
Very good platformer. Good graphics, interesting enemies.finished in a few months.

E-Swat:
I could finish it's arcade version with two coins, and there was a kid who could do wit only one :cool. Finished in a day.

Legend of Kyrandia:
An adventure game from westwood, it probably has the same graphic and sound artists as in Eye of the Beholder series. Finished in a few months.

Golden Axe:
Played it on Master System, Mega Drive,PC and in Arcades I can't tell you how long it took to finish it on amiga.

Loom:
A great LucasFilm adventure. graphics were not good but ok. Finished in a week. I think it had the music of Tschaikovsky and I probably wrote that wrong.

Lure of the Temptress:
Everything was ok until I was prompted for disk 3. There was no
disk 3 !!!But I went as far is it goes.It took about a month to get there.

Simon the Sorcerer:
There were points I was stuck, and checked them from the solution in a magazine. finished in a few months

SuperFrog:
finished in a day. I was just too successful at the bonus levels (casino) I managed to duplicate my score in the casino all the time and at the end, it did not fit on the screen (or whatever it's contained it I don't remember the interface much) so my rank was ;FROG GOD i the end :D :D :D

UFO Enemy Unknown:
Ran too slow on my plain A1200 but it did worth it. Finished in one or two months.

I said EOB2 and Defender of the Crown previously. There were so many games I couldn't finish because they were badly cracked or had similar issues as Lure of the Temptress, I try not to count them. Pools of Darkness was improperly cracked, and asked me a word from the document that came with the game, thanks to skid row, I had to quit that game there.

@Burseg

well, if you wanna know, I also experienced that in Yo! Joe too... still it's a nice game.

at least you finished Chaos Engine, I still try today with no sucess.. :(

Well, I also finished Silkworm , it seems like everyone finished that one :)
I also finished every beat'em up I played on amiga, except Elfmania (I always foundthis game damn hard)

I also would like to say I have finished Alien Breed 2.. I always played this one with a friend (NEVER using passwords), and we were getting REALLY good at it.. one day we finally reached the military building, the game asks for disk 3, I insert it, and the game refuses to load it.. :(

that was a very sad day for me and my friend

21 December 2001, 09:45
Burseg,
You wrote about Entity:
(...) finished in a few months.
How have you managed that? :hooooo
I have only made it to the second world. I am very curious about the various worlds and ending in this game (see my Entity thread (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?threadid=2168) from a couple of weeks ago).
Please please please can you give me more information about the game? Thanks in advance.:)

Hehe some of the games i was struggeling with (but never giving up):

Dune - very atmospheric design, sometimes hard..Spent a long time playing it...

Dune 2 - Completed with all 3 houses, damn, i almost spent a year on this one (i was not that old :))

Simon The Sorcerer - Me and a friend were playing this a couople of months or something like that, very good game..

Monkey Island - Wohoo , got some tips of a friend though ....

Monkey Island 2 - yeah, but got hold of a solution (used it somethims, not often..)

Games i am going to complete:

Eye Of The Beholder - got the original, and its installed on my harddrive.. But never got the time to play it... :(

Hmm and some plattformer, dont think i have ever completed a jum`n run game without cheating ... (or have I ??)

Entity was hard, but it was all about getting used to it I couldn't get much further in the game as well but one day I did, and did not stop until the game is finished, not much advice to give really :) If it doesn't seem possible, WinUAE has a save/load function! It's not cheating after all.
And Dune 1 rules kriz! (finished in a few weeks but it's quite linear and and I finish it again in a day two or three times heheheh)

If it was for emulated Amigas save states from UAE would suffice for someone to verify the authenticy of it. Isn't the Debug option in Winfellow able to dump the data? And if so wouldn't it be possible to reload it again?

Djay
23 December 2001, 01:24
okay, if you have real Amiga, use a digi cam or webcam to capture (this would be very hard to edit) highscore and i think you can screen grab with amiga software (try Action Replay 4 beta) and then transfer to PC or upload (if your using your Amiga 4 everything).

on the authenticy of the highscore, a save state or memory dump is pretty much secure... you could have an official highscore which has been verified (thru save state or mem dump) and an unofficial highscore (thru screen grab)

in an ideal world the people who cheat and edit the screen grab are only cheating themselves...... but we don't live in an ideal world so maybe it would be worth having a few verifiers to check highscores.

Feedback???

OK, here is my list:

Prehistorik
Golden Axe
Toki
M1 Tank Platoon
Battle Hawks 1942 (don't know if I've finished it...but I've completed all the missions.)
Myth (but after beating the big evil fella in the space level, my copy had an error...what happens next?)
Monkey Island 1 + 2
Top Gear 2
Wings
Lotus 1+ 3
Formula 1 Grand Prix (but with all the easy settings, like auto brakes, gears, etc)
Mortal Kombat 1 + 2
Final Fight (I can only complete it with Haggar, and his pile driver move!)
Full Contact
Barbarian (the tournament, chop-your-opponent's-head-off version)
Spitting Images
Space Crusade
Knights of the Sky
Terminator 2 computer version
Double Dragon
Teenage Queen:cheese
Moonstone
Gods

I've gotten really close to completing:
Chaos Engine- I have saves on the last world with ALL characters, but I haven't defeated the boss yet. I usually have barely any lives, due to those rolling fireballs which protect the four generators.:mad

Robocop 2- the fiddly jumping part in level 2, with the dynamite, always pisses me off.

Metal Masters- I had progressed far into this game when my disks corrupted.:eek

BTW, if I may ask, a fav game of mine always used to be the 3d Interphase. I could only make it up to level four, at best. I'm just wondering if anybody has completed it, and how many levels there are.

Breathless
Police Quest 3
Kings Quest 6
Nitro
Supercars
Supercars 2
Alien Breed 3d

Batman The Movie
Zak McKracken
Maniac Mansion
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Adventure)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Indy Heat
Mortal Kombat
Dizzy - Crystal Kingdom
Dizzy - Prince of The Yolkfolk
Back To The Future 3 - had a hard time releasing the last brakes on the train. Actually took me quite a few years!
Beneath A Steel Sky
Moonstone
Rise of the Robots
Warzone - also finished after years and years of playing. :)
Wiz 'n' Liz
Prince of Persia

Right now I'm trying hard to complete Lotus Turbo Challenge 2
- Never completed this one without cheating before :)
// EDIT Gave up after reaching the last level. Don't feel like remembering where all the turbos are - which seems like the only way to complete the level. :(

The Chaos Engine - finished this just now with Brigand (and the computer being the priest). Damn the fireballs in the last level. Wasted a lot of time keeping enough lives left at the end boss.

Aladdin - finished several times through the years. :)

I'm playing Curse Of Enchantia at the minute and am finding it really hard. Well done for completing it. got to admit I've read the solution a couple of times when i got stuck.

I used to try the game every once in a while before, and I got stuck in the forest too. However, when I tried the game last Sunday, it all just went "click".

Even though the game was very short (I could have completed it at day 1), I still found the game to be absolutely brilliant.

I'd recommend every living soul out there to complete this game, or at least get to level before dragon isle (levlel 4 i think). It was one of the cozyest locations I have been to in a game and will not be forgotten in my own personal history of gaming! ;)

Only three, but these were tough enough to provide lots and lots of excitement for me:

- Lotus I (HARD LEVEL!)
(I've had been playing this game for about 9 (!) years, but I had never got much further than one or two levels before the last one, but then finally, in 1998, I managed to complete the LAST level! Whew...)

- Ultima IV (in 1990, after about 5 weeks of hard work)
Yes, I said "in 1990". That guarantees: NO CHEATING! :evilgrin There were no Internet search engines to get hints, and so I was absolutely on my own! I figured out the secret Guilds, hidden places by asking all and sundry (the characters in the game, not those in real life, doh! ;)) and spells! (just by trying mixtures of herbs over and over)
The result: 17 pages of stapled, type written paper with infos, infos, infos...and the best of it all: a successfully finished game!
One small thing I remember is that I didn't find out this magical thing that made your ship invulnerable (or just a little more robust?!) against the pirates' attackz. <grin>
It was TOUGH without this useful item, but I did make it anyway...
Hey, and I LOVED those messages:
"YOU HAVE LOST ONE EIGHTH!" :nervous
The Abyss by itself took about 1.5 weeks until I got everything I needed.

- Twinworld (the easiest of all three).
Medium level. Twinworld offers a LOT of energy potions, making sure that you never run out of energy unless you're a complete dunce...:p

That's it :)

Ultima IV was a perfect game andreas. Congratulations to you for finishing it. That's quite an achievement! It was the game that made me love role-playing and I played it on my Master System. It was easier to play on a console since you did not need to type anything and could just select the commands and words from a list. It had better graphics than the amiga version as well. If you like the game that much, give SMS version a try. (I advise you to use either Dega or Meka as the emulator) :great

Drake: I was talking about a game called Interphase. It was all in 3d. You were in some sort of space ship, with lasers, homing missiles and a tractor beam, and you were floating about in a building. A female friend that you know is trying to escape this building, but she can't get past obstacles such as cameras, robot guards, alarms and other detectors. Therefore, it was your task to disable these devices, such as the cameras, for example, and then giving her the all clear to move on. It was a very fun yet tricky game, and it mixed fantasy-simulation with action, and problem solving. I loved it because it was just so different, but I could only manage up to level 4. Anyone get any further?

Hi,
I completed Bloodwych (man I would love to get that one again :D original I have is corrupted due to to much use :( ). Although the second time around we discovered a slight bug that when used set all your characters stats to 99 I cant remember how to do it tho.

Don't directly type your signature. If you want one, configure it in your UserCP (http://eab.abime.net/usercp.php?s=)

Edzup, as you can tell I love Bloodwych too but my original still works, even though the white label has turned black through too much use. :)

Have you ever played the data disk/extended levels - you can recruit monsters!

Don't worry about your original not working; I have both of the above running flawlessly on a WinUAE Harddrive setup. If anyone wants a copy just shout and I'll upload into the zone! :laugh

Uukrul, get all your Bloodwych needs from this site:

There you can find many different versions, including those for real Amigas and a preset WinUAE with the HDversion.

Enjoy.

After seeing Galahad's list, I'm beginning to feel rather inadequate ... <sniff!> ...

You mean you're supposed to FINISH games?

Seriously, I think my attention span must be too short when it comes to most games. I was trying to remember which ones I had ever finished (on any platform), and most of the ones I've ever finished were text adventures (especially the old Infocom ones), but I'm not sure I ever finished any of them ON the Amiga. I did finish Space Quest 1 and Leisure Suit Larry 1 on the Amiga, so it's not a total shutout.

Crazy Sue

Cheating was impossible in that game and when you lost three lives, you had to start over from the beginning. I remember two really hard situations in level 4 and level 6.
But I liked that game out of the good music.

I guess it took me about a week or so.

I finished a couple of games, but only one can be counted as the greatest of all time - Gravity Force by Stephan Wenzler of Kingsoft. (The original, nitwits, not the drab clones! ;) )

Hm, wait, Datastorm (by Sodan, the Dane!) is also an excellent game that I finished.

Just one I'm afraid! I am not a gamer really, tend to use the 'Mig for other stuff, rarely play games, and my reactions are crap, but I got caught up by the buzz of Monkey Island when it came out, so bought it and played that through to completion, that was in the days before I had a hard drive, so loads of mad disk swaps at the end to keep the action going! LOL!

Hum old thread by I guess there is not expiry date on this one =)

I finished without cheating:

Another world (2-3 hours)
Flashback (I think about 3 or 4 days, I don't remember well)
Monkey Island (a LOT of time)
Shadow of the Beast II (a few weeks, I had to have the complete game in my min before I could finish it)
Shadow of the Beast III (1 day... pretty easy compared to the 2 other)
Traps 'n' Treasures (a few days)
SWIV (2 or 3 hours)
Eye of the beholder (a few days)
Universe (4 or 5 hours, easy but great adventure game)
Elfmania (a few months... too hard!)
Lionheart (normal mode only, I never finished the hard mode, prolly a couple hours)
Loom (prolly a couple hours, it wasn't very hard, but really fantastic)
Superfrog (don't remember)

A lot of other action and shoot'em upgames (R-Type II, Carcharodon, Yo joe, Bart vs Space Mutants, Robocop, etc, etc).

Some games I was near but couldn't finish without cheating:

Shadow of the Beast I
Project X

Some games I never finished on Amiga because ports were too lame but I finished on other systems:

Monkey Island 2 (lot of time, it's an hudge adventure!)
Street Fighter II in all flavour (finished these ones a hundred times with all caracters)
Mortal Kombat I & II (see SFII)
Beneath A Steel Sky (I don't remember)

UFO
Superfrog
Dune II
Gunship 2000

Yeah i'll go with that one too. I finished so damn many because i played so damn many that i cant list them all.

I rarely used cheats every though, because i couldnt see the point of playing a game if your just going watch it. No challenge. The only games i used cheats for were Shadow Of The Beast & Project-X. Im sure there were others, but this would have been after at least a year of trying!..

only just got into the amiga emulation thing, so not completed any amiga games for a long time. but from my memory;

remember playing 'wrath of the demon' for the whole weekend wiith my big brother which we completed from start to finish. i borrowed the game from a friend, don't think i played it again after this. that was real fun and a real sense of 'team work' but my big bro will say he did all the work.

monkey island 1. played this for some months/years, but never got to the end. after a sleep over at my friends house, we decided to ultimately try to put it to rest. we managed to get to monkey island for the first time. then i took the save game disk home and completed it myself the next day.
another world took a few months i think.
flashback i think took a good few months also
giana sisters i nearly did but mine always crashed at about level 26.

Chaos Strikes Back finished in 10 minutes and 37 seconds (seriously!)
Dungeon Master 40 minutes

WHAT??? dungeon master in 40mins??? i played through it, i LOVED this game, it was one of the greatest achivments of game programming of all time... but i maybe played about 40 days. or even more.

later many games copied dungeon master, like xenomorph, captive, crystal dragon, black crypt, abandoned places and of course the great eye of the beholder, but noone got me hooked as much as dungeon master. not even the add-on chaos strikes back.

even when i would have played dungeon master again, knowing all secrets/maps, it would have taken me a few days. i mean, without cheating, only killing the dragon takes 40mins. or catching lord chaos. noone can seriously play through this game in 40mins without cheating or at least exploiting some bugs/iregularities that you were not supposed to do...

The games i have solved without cheating... a lot.

I played through a large part of the commercial adventure releases on the Amiga, like all great games from Sierra, LucasArts (or Lucasfilm as it was then called), Delphine, or classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Nippon Safes, Simon the Sorcerer, Dark Seed, Erben der Erde, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Innocent until Caught, Legend of Kyrandia, Altered Destiny or Les Manley. Or many more i donīt remember without digging through my collection.

Among my absolute top games were the adventures from ICOM: Deja Vu, Uninvited and Shadowgate. They were one of the reasons I bought my first Amiga 500 in 1988.

Another one of my top favs was Kult, or Chamber of the Sci-Mutant Priestess as it was called in the USA. The ending was a bit simple, but the game was like a dream.

Or Neuromancer, I liked the game so much I read the novel as well. Very cool cyberpunk setting, and the Amiga version was the best of them all. I played it for weeks, upgrading my software, continuing in the story.

Or Personal Nightmare, my first horro adventure. It really scared me... 15 years ago.

I also fell in love with the Dynamix adventures. I was really shocked when they did not continue producing games with their adventure system. I played through "Rise of the Dragons" a few times, trying to find alternative solutions (moderately successful), also "Heart of China". Aaargh, they donīt make games like that anymore. I even liked "Willy Beamish". Maybe those games were not so successful on the Amiga because they required a harddisk to really be able to enjoy them? I donīt know. Many of the later adventures required a harddisk to enjoy them.

Also solved many text adventures from Infocom, Magnetic Scrolls, Level 9 or Interplay (Borrowed Time was cool, also Mindshadow and I loved Tass Times in Tonetown). Or very cool (and easy) was Island of Lost Hope.

Ok, I did use hints for some of the games, but they were not so easy to come by in the time before the internet.

I made a list of all released adventure games and published it on the Aminet many years ago, no idea if it is still available there. The list contained more than 100 adventures. There were only few where I havenīt seen the ending :-).

Since I generally owned originals, which I mostly bought pre-owned, I rarely had the problem of corrupt/missing disks or manual requests I could not solve.

Apart from adventures, I played a lot of simulations, flight sims (Interceptor, Falcon, Battlehawks, their Finest Hour, Flight of the Intruder) or sub sims (Silent Service). Or strategy games like Civilization, UFO or Millennium 2.2. Or role-playing games. Actually I liked rpgs a lot, but they were generally much more time consuming than adventures, so I solved only maybe a dozen.

SSIīs Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus was one of the most memorable. Took me maybe a week. Or my beloved Dungeon Master. Or of course "Bards Tale: Tales of the Unknown", another reason why I bought my first Amiga. Played Bardīs Tale for many weeks. Or Champions of Krynn, the first Gold Box game that was released on the Amiga.

Another rpg I solved together with a friend in a few weeks and without cheating was the fantastic space rpg "Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday". The box came with the novel, which I read first, later and after solving the game I read all following novels as well.

I also played through a few platformers and shoot em ups, but mostly I stopped after a few weeks and reaching level 4 or something like that. I generally had a hard time really completing any action game without cheat.

Rodland and R-Type come to my mind.

Actually, I played Amiga games heavily from 1988 to 1998, when I finally had played through most games I was interested in. So I was forced to switch to the dark side and buy my first IBM clone. I hated it, but it provided me with dozens of more new adventures, which I could play in the following years... and still play. Atm i am stuck in "Black Mirror", a few weeks ago I played through "Still Life". Without cheating in maybe one month.

Ok, since I am sitting in the office I should maybe go back to work now.

"Flashback" is the only Amiga game I ever completed - after teaming up with my brother (he would tackle all the action bits, and I would take care of the adventure parts). This is mainly due to the fact that there was little incentive with Amiga games, or - at least - not as much as with earlier computer games.

It's only a bit later that I would get back to playing games from start to finish, i.e. when the first games in the "Tomb Raider" series were released for the "Playstation" console...

There are still games I'd love to be interested in but - I have to admit it - I will just get bored very quickly now...

SSIīs Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus was one of the most memorable. Took me maybe a week.

Ah, great game. I tried that twice (from the start)...but never made it to the finish.Spent a lot more than a week on that game. A shame internet didn't exist, which could give me a hint (if i remember right i couldn't complete the travel to a new island/dreamworld/land in the sky or something like that. Pretty sure it must have been close to the end...).

I've only completed easy games without cheating:

-future wars
-Operation Stealth
- Bubble Bobble (2 player)
- railroad tycoon/ports of call/Oil Imperium (if those counts)

hmmm...thats not many :p

The easiest one was probably Dragon Breed since you just have to fly on top of the screen and leave autofire on :)

I'm pretty sure that counts as cheating. ;)

even when i would have played dungeon master again, knowing all secrets/maps, it would have taken me a few days. i mean, without cheating, only killing the dragon takes 40mins. or catching lord chaos. noone can seriously play through this game in 40mins without cheating or at least exploiting some bugs/iregularities that you were not supposed to do...

You need to get those achievements recorded!!!

I did clock chaos strikes back and dungeon master in those times and they are recorded!! Infact someone beat my record of dungeon master with about 31 minutes, but i still have the record for CSB, you can download all the recording from here: http://dmweb.zpc.cz/CSBForWindowsLinux.htm

And read the forums here: http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22716

These are fun to watch, so if you have played these games before i recommend having a look.

PS i forgot about UFO: Enemy Unknown and arabian knights on my list

I finished a lot of adventure and RPG games such as Black Crypt, Dungeon Master, all of the Eye of the Beholder and AD&D games, The Pawn, Guild of Thieves and a shitload more I can't remember.

I also finished a lot of shoot-em-ups such as Silkworm, Swiv, R-Type, Xenon 1 & 2 and many more, plus a lot of platformers (Black Tiger, Treasure Island Dizzy etc).

One that I really enjoyed finishing was Moonstone. :great

There was a lot more, but old age and too many wild times have robbed me of most of my memory. I was never really big on cheating when I played games and even today (I only really play car games, footy and the GTA's on PS2) I get the shits with my mate John because he's always hitting me up to download cheats for his crappy PC games.

I completed most of the Lucasarts games without cheats as well as the Valhalla games.

After playing the final level of The Speris Legacy for quite a while I completed totally by chance when i found a hidden door underneath a bridge which led to a room with an item you needed to finish the game.

That wasn't quite as irritating as Dreamweb, which required a code which could not be found anywhere in the game, making it un-completeable unless you read a walkthrough.

Not many Amiga games that I completed without cheating. :(

Lionheart - Completed in one day after about a week of trying. (completed again 'bout half year ago, again without cheating and second time to get different ending with cheats to skip levels) It took about a day.

Superfrog - The best jump'n'run platformer on Amiga IMHO. It took me couple days with passwords to finish, and then later I did one run from the start to the end. It's been more then 10 years since I completed it, but still think that ending was hillarious and unexpected. :laughing

Colonization - This happened once I got A590 and rented the game in germany (and about half year before I moved in the States). Cool game, and I just finished Win and DOS versions recently (first one with the cheats, and second one without the cheats). I found some difference in interface between those versions and DOS version was my favorite.

Street Fighter 2 - Almost broke my joystick on this one.

Flashback - First time I played with my cousin on his A500 and we came almost to end of the game, but I had to go. Then I finished it on my A500+ couple of times, every time taking less and less time to complete. One of the best endings on miggy.

Shangai - This came with my A500+ and it took me a lot of time to complete the game. It scared me after I did. :D

I cheated in many games or used walkthrough for the games such as Simon 1, MI1 but some games I tried to finish and never got to the end after long plays. One of them is Burntime, where I had ~90% of territory covered but could not figure out what to do next. Same goes for Settler 1, which I played long time, but never finished it. Some of those games I finished later on PC (UFO, Civilization etc.)

There are 2 endings in Lionheart.

First one, unhappy if you haven't found talisman to resque your love.

And another one if you found talisman.

I wasn't aware of this one, until I've read another discussion here, and checked it myself.

hmm..

not that many i think...

Bloodwych / Extended Levels
New Zealand Story
Another World (about the only game i can speed-run at)
Mega Lo Mania (as everyone except Oberon)
It Came From the Desert
Monkey Island 1 / 2
Beneath A Steel Sky
Time Machine
Indy Heat (hehe)
Rodland (2 player)

i think i did once nail Batman The Movie without cheats, but i only have fuzzy memories of my uni days, so its best not to list it.

i never used to have the patience when i was younger.... but i find now that as i play the games, i'm a lot more interested in beating it / achieving highscores than i used to be. Which reminds me, i still need to do the last level of Flashback so can add it to this list.... and i've found a stack of platformers i've got far on but never beaten.

I have finished and still do it ^^ :

- Lionheart (every difficulty modes + both endings, no cheating and EACH bonus or lives picked up!).
- Jim power (game mastered straight to the end, all bonus picked up + huge amount of lives even on level 5)
- Pang (ouch how hard it is lol)
- Turrican (know all positions of every exits. even the ones that completely
out of positions!)
- Twinworld (this one requires quite a lot of time, 'cause of ennemies positions and shots, the rest is p'ea' o' cake lol)
hint for this one : 2 amulet pieces must be found in the last level !
- Cannon Fodder 1 : All mission and all tricks mastered. i must find time
to make a HUGE walktrhough for this one.
- Cannon Fodder 2 : All mission mastered, even the almost impossible ones !
most very well hidden bonus found ^^. I have created a big walktrhough
for this one, detailed right to the tails ^^, with how defeating without being killed.

Oups forgot New Zealand story, excellent one ! even the drifty level 5-4
i got thru it right away ^^

Ultima 3 - oh man I was sooo stupid. I tried to avoid that damn whirlpool, i thought that if i got swallowed up i would die. Back then, I played it on the IBM pcjr and every time I got swallowed by that whirlpool, I quickly turned off the computer. 11 months went by trying to find those darn shrines. I knew that game frontwards and backwards. I knew every dungeon, every town, found everything I needed. Except those shrines.

Until one day the whirlpool got me right when my mom started yelling at me about something so I had to run out of my bedroom quickly. When I got back, I was in the land of Sosaria. WOW!! what a sight.

Anyway, 11 long frustrating months without cheating, and i finally got it by accident. :great

Anyway, I have finished more than 100 !! Amiga games wihtout cheating by now :) Some of the last ones were Loom, Monkey Island, Beyond the Ice Palace, Slightly Magic, Winnie Pooh, Mother Goose, The Sword & the Rose and some others. Most of them are quite easy games, though. :)

Hmmm... I haven't actually completed that many Amiga games, although I've played some very much. The Amiga entered my life in a time when piracy were the next big thing... and the first Amiga I bought offered me over 300 disks filled with games. As always when there is too much to chose from... I tend to try out the games more than I play them, and hence... there were lots and lots of 'trying out' sessions going about... with very few games actually completed in the process (one of the reasons I tend to buy most the older games I want to play nowadays... if going emulating I simply won't have that much fun... which is also one of the reasons for me coming to this conclusion: Wii + VirtualConsole = heaven). Anyways... the games I can come up with at the moment must be:

Banshee AGA
Battle Squadron - The Destruction of the Barrax Empire
Beneath a Steel Sky
Bob's Bad Day
Breathless AGA
Brian the Lion AGA
Chuck Rock II - Son of Chuck
Civilization AGA
Defender of the Crown
Dynablaster
Gloom AGA
Gobliins 2
Goblins 3
Heimdal II AGA
Hugo På Nye Eventyr
Hybris
Indiana Jones IV - The Fate Of Atlantis
Legends AGA
Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards
Loom
Pacmania
Pang
Rise Of The Robots AGA
Sim Ant
Sim City v1.2 (500.000+ population)
Simon The Sorceror AGA
Superfrog
The Chaos Engine AGA
The Great Giana Sisters
The Secret Of Monkey Island
The Secret Of Monkey Island II - Le Chuck's Revenge
Turrican
Turrican II - The Final Fight (35 lives left)

I've completed quite a few games but now a days I do cheat <g>.. however back in the day I did:

Another World - easy
Flashback - easy
Dungeon Master - took weeks and was solid in places - not knowing about the altar of rebirth (obvious now) at the time was a nightmare trying not to die.
Turrican 2 - hard - very hard
Bubble Bobble - absolutely solid - first time I completed it, it said bring a friend.. arrgh!
Rainbow Islands - again hard... lots of practice needed
Speedball 2 - pretty easy once you bought a few players..
Supercars / 2 - pretty easy - rockets rock!
Monkey Island - hard in places but very good fun!
Darkseed - absolutely solid having to be in the right place at the right time
Elite 2 - does getting to Elite mean I've completed it? <G>
Xenon 2 - hard in places.. very hard..
SWIV - as above
X-Out - pretty easy
Turrican - pretty easy if I remember right
Last Ninja 2 - fecken hard - especailly some of the jumps

And lots more which will come to me soon!

As i cannot say for sure howmany hours a game had taken me, as this was all so long ago, i am sure i have forgotten so many games i have beaten. I have decided to put down a week type scenario, on average i would play a game a couple of hours a week on average this would make a 3 week time really only 6-8 hours of play. however both my brother and I would also play the same game so we would either, in the case of rpg, share characters or methods in like rts / stratagy.

That's some list, but anyone who can play all the way through Last Action Hero surely can't be human. ;)
True, but I just play every beat 'em up I come across, no matter how horrible.

Erm, I meant that as in "the game's totally dreadful" rather than "it's far too hard" (because it clearly isn't) :)

Don't you guys get hopelessly lost in the dungeon crawlers? All the walls look the same, don't they?

Or do you draw a map as you go along?

Awesome thread, chose this for first post since signing up to this site.
I've completed so many games since my childhood, I'll just list the ones im most proud of:

Lemmings (months)
Oh no More Lemmings (oh no more months)
Lemmings 2 Tribes (months and months)
Millenium 2.2 (8 hrs.)
Cannon Fodder (days)
Lost Dutchmans Mine (years)
Mega-Lo-Mania (5 hrs.)
Rick Dangerous (weeks)
Secret of Monkey Island (days)
Dune 2 (days)
Syndicate (weeks)
Flashback (days)

Will list more if I think of any while surfing around here some more. I still have my printed certificate for saving the lemming race at the end of Lemmings in my loft. It took fully 10 mins to print on my old amiga printer, but was worth it! Seeing some peoples lists on here its amazing how fast some people bested games. It was a total swine to find all the map pieces to LDM and Rick Dangerous was just brutal with only 6 lives to start with.
I'd count North and South in this list but I felt I cheated, I beat the computer on chessboard mode rather than simulation mode.

I've also solved, without any cheating,
Budokan, Lotus 1, Continental Circus, and Street Fighter 2..

Twinworld (Needs real dedication this one)
Batman the Movie (Such a great game – need to memorize the paths on the platforming levels but it's worth it)
The Killing Game Show (left it on overnight and completed the next day)
Midnight Resistance (Very easy and tons of fun!)
Marble Madness
Myth (Love this game, so fun to complete and fairly easy)
Lemmings
All the Dizzys.
Xenon II
Pang
Turrican I / II
James Pond 2: Robocod
Cannon Fodder I / II (The first one is great but frustrating on later levels when your team start wasting grenades, II is crap especially the last level)
Silly Putty (Easy)
Another World (Easy) / Flashback
Second Samurai
CJ’s Elephant Antics (Lots of fun this one)
Clockwiser (one of my fave puzzlers)
Troddles (A great Lemmings clone)
Benefactor
Golden Axe (fairly easy)
Bubba n’ Stix
Crazy Sue
Zool I / II
Odyssey (The most epic platformer on the Amiga IMO. The game becomes deeper and deeper the more you play as you gain the various animal shapeshifting abilities and eventually combining them)

No way did you finish New Zealand Story without a cheat Hungry Horace! I finished it with a cheat and that is totally impossible, surely!!!

I didn't make it all the way through all that many games, but there were one or two I managed it with. The one I remember most vividly was the wretched Captain Planet game that came in the Cartoon Classics pack. That took some serious doing, but I eventually managed it.

I'm fairly certain I made it through Paradroid '90. I was pretty hot at the original C=64 Paradroid, but I don't think that actually could be 'completed' in any meaningful way, you just had to do it over and over.

The Addams Family was great fun. I've completed that two or three times over the years. One or two bits of it were mind-bendingly frustrating, but otherwise I really enjoyed that game.

As far as I'm concerned, I've 'completed' The Settlers and Frontier. Neither really has a win condition, but I've survived long enough in both games to have pretty much done everything worthwhile there is to do.

There are probably one or two others. I might've completed Zool, but I can't really remember.

However, despite huge amounts of effort, Xenon II just never happened. I once made it to the start of level 3...

Turrican 2

Chaos Engine - remember being quite chuffed about it actually although final boss was fairly wimpy

Trex - probably not that hard to do and it was only because the game gripped me so much

Batman Movie - difficulty pitched just right

I only play games with cheating. :D I think its too bad to play them for hours and then suddenly die... Even so, I had interest in the past to play these, without cheating, and completed them. Of these, what I most liked was Turrican II and James Pond II. I loved to see the main characters walking and jumping on the platforms, even knowing its a trick.

Golden Axe
Turrican II
James Pond II

I've always thought that Blood Money was the hardest (read most impossible) game ever. Lovely graphics let down by some really bad design calls , chief of these the need to collect the coins before they fall to the bottom of the screen and the badly implemented energy bar (why bother with an energy bar at all if it drains so quickly! Are people actually saying that they managed to complete it with no cheats!!

I did sure it was a hard game and 3 and 4 world but I did complete without using a cheat and I did on Atari st as well.

A few years ago I finally completed K240 without cheating.

In 1994, my brothers and I played the K240 demo from the CU Amiga coverdisk. We got the full game because the demo teased you with features that only worked in the full version.

But the demo version gave you a lot more free ships/missiles/credits than the demo, so we turned to cheat codes.

Years later, I finally beat the game with no cheats. It was weird having to actually sell ore to the Imperial Transporter. I also learned the value of ramming the enemy with asteroid engines.
