View Full Version : Slaves that need improvements or to be fixed

I though about that topic for a long time. There are many slaves whose authors went retired and no longer support WHDLoad team. I think it would be great if active team members could improve old slaves, adjust them to the new version of WHDLoad or simply fix them.

I say, let's put here names of the games that need it, maybe with pointing what we would like to have.

For me, it is:
- GOAL - slave is a real crap. It does not support save disk and replay disk. It ocassionaly quits,
- LOTUS 3 - would be nice if the slave could support highscores savings and have a buttonwait feature to listen to the whole music before the race (I already reported it to Bored and he said he will try to do something with it but it was 2 months ago)

SWOS. I believe all versions of SWOS has issues with slowing down at random times when playing a match. Makes it quite annoying to play, and what a shame with such a great game.

I would like to see a fix for Stunt Car Racer to be playable on 040 CPUs :)

Now the gfx is really messed up ... looks like lego bricks or something, reminds me of SCR on C64 :cheese

@DoctorQ:
If you are running SWOS on a 68060 machine, try the "Cache" tooltype.

Didn't help the last time I tried it, and other people have reported this problem as well. However, there are no problems when playing WHDLoaded SWOS on my A4000/030. :confused

I will probably get corrected on this, but his has something to do with the 68040 and 68060 having to restart the bus-transfer when trying to read or write from a memory-space marked as non-cacheable in some way, resulting in about 3-5 times slower access.

I think the 68040 only has to do this for writes, while the 68060 has to do this for both reads and writes.

When slaves put the code (instructions) in chipram and disables instruction cache things can become severely slow/nasty on these processors.

This does not happen on <= 68030 processors.

/me prepares to be corrected

Final Fight - accesses DF0:, needs random Disk to reside in DF0 (and DF1?) to run.

Turrican - could really need a RawDIC Imager
Super Scramble Simulator - SPS Version not supported

Robocop 3 - does not support Platinium Edition version.

This is not the place for WHDLoad bug reports. Report them via the WHDLoad interface and then the bug reports go to the people that need them. Bugs for slaves by people like Mr Larmer (who passed away) automatically get forwarded onto the entire team.

There is no need to post here. And for the record, Final Fight does *NOT* need a disk in DF0:

I am sorry for this but I wanted to have a list of such slaves in case I would like to report a bug about which the Team already knows. My aim was to gather the list of really old slaves that need to be improved or which does not work properly and it has been long time since they were released and since then noone looked at them. I had noticed that slaves which have been created a long time ago by people who are retired are not supported (or are rarely supported). I appreciate all your work but it just a thread to discussion. If you mind, you may delete it. Once again, sorry for this.

What do you mean by saying that Mr Larmer passed away? When did he die? I feel sorry for him. Another amigaman we should be missing... Absolute genius. R.I.P.:(

I get pretty pissed off by people complaining about not updating slaves, especially Mr Larmers slaves. They haven't even bothered to check the WHDLoad team page and find out why he is not around, even though he died in 2001:

http://www.whdload.de/team.html

Saying that "Goal is real crap" is pretty stupid considering the author is dead, it was released 8 years ago and if you can't write a better slave yourself, you should word your "request" a bit better.

@Codetapper

I fully understand your request, as for reporting bugs concerning WHDLoad slave to the WHDLoad team, and to do it in a proper way.

However, I did this a long time ago regarding SWOS and the slow down problems with 060 (and 040 IIRC). The response was that they were aware of it, but it didn't seem like they were about to fix the problem.

That's fair enough as I'm sure the WHDLoad team has a lot of stuff to work on, but it's also the reason why I think this is a good idea (would have been better to have some kind of poll on www.whdload.de instead though). Then the WHDLoad can at least see which slaves the users really would like to have updated/fixed, and what problems is/were the most annoying ones.

OK, I see what you mean, but with all the respect, does it mean that there is no hope that anyone could improve them? I don't quite understand why you changed the simple question, even maybe a request into somekind of attack that did not occur.

Saying that "Goal is real crap" is pretty stupid considering the author is dead, it was released 8 years ago and if you can't write a better slave yourself, you should word your "request" a bit better.
I did send a bugreport long time ago. I always do. Take also under consideration the way I asked or requested at the very beginning:

I think it would be great if active team members could improve old slaves, adjust them to the new version of WHDLoad or simply fix them.

I did not say whose slaves. I suggested with appreciation that some slaves to some great Amiga games could be polished a bit/adapted. Is it bad? Maybe using a word "crap" was not appropriate but was unintentional.

Let's end this thread and delete it. That would be much better for everyone. Once again, sorry I started it.
