Hi there,

I bought an old Amiga 500+ second hand. I plugged in the power supply, plugged the power supply into the Amiga, switched it on (just to test it)... and I get a silent wrrrrrrrrrrrr from inside.

No power LED display. Nothing.

Just a silent wrrrrrrrrrr.

Does it sound fixable?

Does this noise come from the inside of the PSU or the Amiga itself? If its the former, you might be lucky and just have abroken power supply. I just ordered a new one for my A600 from Power Computing, so they aren't too hard to find :).

If it is the A500+, and you are lucky, you blew up the capacitors from the +12 or -12V line just after the power port. But in this case you'll have to take it to a technician for a check...

I don't have any real technical knowledge, but a power supply I once had for my trusty Amiga 500;) had a similar problem. When I switched it on, there were no LED lights and just a hum from the Amiga.

Thing is, I simply used to leave it. After a few minutes, it would finally boot up, the LED lights would switch on, and the monitor (which was ON but had displayed a black screen) brought up the reassuring "Insert Disk" picture.

I have no explanation for this...it simply needed a few minutes to get started.

BTW, this may sound dumb, but very similar symptoms appear if you have twisted and tied all the wires behind your Miggy together into a neat bundle!:hooooo

Don't do this! Let your poor Miggy breathe! :p

put it in a place with good ventillation and put a fan near it blowing hot air away [it may be over heating]
