Is there a way to play dark seed with whdload without flicker? Is it normal to flicker even through PIV's scandoubler/ff?

Thanks

The walkthrough..... has nothing to do with the topic... more than it's the same game... but just wanted people to know :)

No flickering in Winuae atleast.

Tried the whdload cd32 version... no flicker but apparently needs a pad to work... damn!

Yep, the CD32 version requires a pad, but you Simon the Sorcerer CD32 can be played with pad and mouse thanks to a little tool starting in the startup-sequence. If I bothered to, I could have used that tool from Simon with Darkseed and thereby play Darksdeed CD32 with a mouse.

Interesting, but I guess this tool would only apply to OS-compliant games, whdload would kill it ;-)

Ironclaw

Not if you start the tool before you start whdload

MrZammler

And the tool's name is.... ? ;-)

cd sys:
SetPatch QUIET
;run >NIL: sys:cd2xspeed ON
run >NIL: sys:joymouse accel createkeys
run >NIL: sys:runit2
endcli >NIL:

So "joymouse accel createkeys" I guess.

Hi, sorry no go. Still the same behaviour. Dont think there is anything to do with this, darkseed seems to need the extra pad keys.

Ironclaw

Nope, should work, a friend of mine used that tool in other games long ago, he told me.

@Ironclaw

2 questions: the joymouse thing, just seems to make the joystick behave as a mouse (i.e. move the cursor around when in WB). How would that help with a game that requires a cd32 pad? Darkseed CD32 already uses the joystick, but cant go further cause it seems to need some extra buttons.

Next, whdload kills everything running (including wb) and gives control to the games of the hardware bypassing anything running up to the whdload start. Can the joymouse utility survive this?

If you have like me a mouse with 3 buttons and a middle scroll + 2 extra buttons, one on each side = a mouse with 7 buttons in total.. that's enough..

scroll up and down = 2 keys.

Darkseed only needs 3 keys: left mouse to click stuff, right mouse to toggle action and middle mouse to skip the time... so it's perfect with a mouse for darkseed using that tool... you dont need all the cd32 gamepad buttons in that game.

About using the tool with with whdload version of darkseed, I don't know. I just had the game installed on a HD and running without whdload... I have never play games from hd using whload, NEVER... so I don't have that problem...

So why not play darkseed without whdload?

Hi Ironclaw,

Well, mainly because I dont have the cd32 version... (got the whdload one from magix site). I'll try and find the original one and give it one more go. Thanks.

there is of course always the dreaded ebay for a cd32 controller or an old friend you dont mind beating the hell out of ? :)

after all... its a cd32 controller and its worth it..... kinda..... have you tried an old PC GAME port based controller with dongle to convert it to amiga, I did this sooooo many moons ago i forgot what year it was in... lest be said decade...

heres hoping you some luck, even though the game flopped and was considered poor i always had a softspot for the game known as dark seed.

One thing IronClaw mentions is using a PC mouse with the amiga, you will need a cocolino available from vesalia.de or amigakit.co.uk thus giving you access to cheap ps2 3+ button mice :D

Well, I did knew a friend who had a cd32... Would try to get the whole thing instead of just the pad, though ;)

But anyway, yeah, I guess I will be searching for one.

Thanks

Why not just download the floppy version and install that?, neither the CD32 nor the floppy version has a hd installer, but all you have to do is copy the files to a harddrive, that's what I do.... no hd installer or whload is needed for most dos games (not nodos disks)

Just get the floppy version of planetemu.net, copy all the files to a harddrive and play i with the mouse.

Sadly the way ironclaw describes doesnt work on my setup. I've tried it, clicked on the darkseed icon, music starts but I stay on the wb screen...

Ironclaw

Are you using WinUAE, then you have the wrong setting.... many times when I have the wring settings in wb, I can only hear the sound of the games, but I stay in wb... just change them, don't overdo them like JIT, 040, 70mb ram etc... also depends on the setup of your wb. Try to start from a wb disk, they have the basic settings, should work from one of those.

MrZammler

Hi Ironclaw, nope I'm using an A3000/060.

Ironclaw
29 December 2005, 15:33
K, then. too bad it's not WinUAE... but have you tried booting from Workbench disk 3.1? then the system will just have the basic setup and then Darkseed might work.

If that doesn't work... and you can't start the tool before whload because whload removes it or whatever you said before.. then I don't know....

MrZammler
29 December 2005, 17:02
Argh, sorry, no floppy either. Had to let it go to make room for another UW disk ;-)

Hehehe, well, seems the only solution would be a cd32 pad on the joystick port. That should take care of it.

Ironclaw
29 December 2005, 21:14
You have Internet, don't you :). Download it from planetemu.net (adfs) and use an adf editor to extract all the files to your harddrive, and play it.

Tons of ways to do what you want :)

Not if you start the tool before you start whdload

Not exactly. Either the WHDLoad installer uses s:startup-sequence and in that case it is possible that you can add joymouse in it, but if that's not the case, running joymouse before running WHDLoad is useless. It patches the system, whereas it is the virtual system (installed by WHDLoad) which should be patched.
Maybe function keys are used to emulate the buttons in Darkseed CD32 WHDLoad version. Check the documentation.

Anyway, without WHDLoad, joymouse + Darkseed should work.

Yup, that's what I, kind of said before..... dont use WHDLoad :).
