Did someone have heard about this game ?

BeelzebubUK: 'Multiplayer game called Mayhem'
So this is where you're all hiding now :)
Rather than type it all out again heres the url for the original request just in case someone has it: http://pub8.ezboard.com/fgodfleshsrequestboardrequests.showMessage?topicID=895.topic
Reward mentioned in the post still stands for anyone who can find it. Thanks.

When I had an Amiga about 10 years ago I had a game called Mayhem.

It was a 2-4 player game with the screen being split for each player (split in 2 for 2 players and split into 4 for 3 or 4 players).
You each controlled a ship similar to an asteroids ship with Rotate Left, Rotate Right, Thrust, Fire and Sheild.
2 Players could use joystick and 2 used keys.
There were at least 4 different maps to play on...all were caverns with different layouts and graphics.
Every map had refuel pads to land on.
You could change the number of lives from 1 to 15.
I don't know if this was a fully released game or shareware.
It came on 1 disk.
There were no computer controlled players.

I have been looking on every Amiga site to find this game but I've never seen it mentioned anywhere.

If you know where I can find it (I would be happy to pay for a copy) please email me on :

beelzebubuk@yahoo.com

or ICQ me on :

26128141

Thanks very much

IanCharge: 'Is This'
What you are looking for ;)
Mayhem (http://amiga.emucamp.com/mayhem.htm)
If it is payment is not required :D

BeelzebubUK:
Nope. I've donwloaded that one twice in the last day in 2 different sizes but its definitely not the one.
Thanks for replying so quick though.
And believe me I'd make you take the payment if you found it. I'd be so grateful

IanCharge: 'Check here'
At Warlock99's (http://www.abime.net/eab/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=79) WWW (Dave Letterman reference of the day;)) he has a mayhem listed in his download's section (Doesn't seem to download though) Send him a PM or something asking him for it (Politely:D)

BeelzebubUK:
I tried looking at that site earlier today but got the same problem with downloading. Have sent him a very polite email asking if he can send it to me (fingers crossed)
Cheers

IanCharge: Apparently
Half of his games were deleted (News on his main page), Mayhem must have been in that half:mad

BeelzebubUK:
Got a mail back from Warlock. Unfortunately his copy was the same as all the other sites appear to have so no joy for me.
The quest continues....

BeelzebubUK:
You wouldn't believe how much I want this game. Anybody know of any other decent boards where I might post my request ? I'm thinking that I might have better luck on some German boards.

fredtgreat:
Try Ebay UK, if you find the game, buy it, then transfer it using a myriad of Amiga disk to adf transer utilities.
Unless you have a real Amiga, which would make that all superflous.
Another sugestion...if you have an Atari St emu, see if it ever was published for that system. I know the Amiga one would be better, of course, but dammit you say you really want the game...

BeelzebubUK:
Thanks for the advice (any advice is always appreciated). Trouble is that I'm 99% sure it was never a fully released game. It was either a preview of a game or a shareware so my only hope is if someone is selling a bulk load of disks and it happens to be in there and that could take a long time and a lot of money to get lucky :)
Other problem is that I do have a real Amiga 1200 and the only way to play the game is multiplayer with 4 people hence I can't use an emulator or get an Atari ST version.
Although I will have a look at Atari lists because if it was released on the ST and I can actually show some screenpics of the game then that should get me a lot more closer to finding the game for the Amiga.
Cheers.

RCK, do you have the picture that went with this thread? I think that was what Beezlebub UK was basing his search on

this picture should have been posted after the last message I could restore.

Good news BeelzebubUK, the screenshot in question was of a thrust type game called Executioner

If you look just below this post you'll see some screenshots taken by §ane:great

Here's a few pix from the Executioner game.

Thanks everybody and especially Sane for that marvellous picture. The more I look at The Executioner the more I keep thinking the game developer decided not to bother with the multiplayer part....it looks really familiar. The bottom right screenshot looks exactly what I remember of the game.

I think I'll download it just to see of the controls feel eeeeerily familiar.

BTW Guys - I have 3 boxes with about 2800 Amiga disks waiting for me to look at and list. When I finally look at them I'll post a complete list for you all to look through.

mmmm thats a tricky one...
the only other thing i can suggest is to try the amiga exotica project. log on to ircnet #amigaexotic , or go to the website and email the guys http://exotica.fix.no ... i know they've got some kind of game database going with a lot of info on amiga games.

Amiga Power - Issue 50 - Disk 2 - "CoverWare" game entitled "Gravity Power"

What is Gravity Power?

GP is Bits' version of the original Gravity-Force from Kingsoft.
Some improvements to a fantastic game!

The *original* idea is old, and many games like this exist, f.ex.
"Thrust", "Mayhem", "TurboRaketti", "The Executioner", "Zarathrusta" aso.

This proves that it does exist!

And it is none of the following shown below, the first is apparently a "scene game" programmed by demo coders, the last two are general PD games.

BeelzebubUK
23 November 2001, 18:52
Hehe....got to be the worst game to be looking for because there is a game with the same name that even has the same gameplay. Must be over a year I've been looking for this game now.

I'll give that exotica link a try though. Cheers.

Just had an email from someone who also remembers playing this game and hopefully one of his friends still has it. So thought I'd update this and wish everyone a happy new year (looks like a promising year for me now :) )

LOL

You're never going to believe this beezlebub...

Dpainter has had mayhem all along, but he's too drunk to post it at the moment. I'm sure he'll upload it soon though...

It's on 3 disks, it's 4 player and i'll be damn surprised if it's not the right game.

BeelzebubUK
19 January 2002, 11:39
Hmmmm......the one I had only came on 1 disk but then again it didn't have all the levels on it so it could be the whole game that hes got. Please get him to upload it somewhere so I can try it ASAP. Thanks very much.

WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just downloaded that first disk and tried it on WinUAE. Didn't work very well but thats the game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god and you said hes got 2 more disks for it as well.....I am in heaven !!!!!!!!!!!

Well I implore everybody to take a copy of this game and try it preferably with 3 friends as its only the 4 player where the game really stands out from the crowds. And always keep a copy of it safe somewhere so if (god forbid) I ever lost every copy I'm going to make it doesn't take me another 18 months to find it again :)

I'd really like to thank DPainter for being possibly the only person in the world with a copy of the game and eventually realising he had a copy :) and also Warlock 99 for posting a message to me as well. And of course thanks to everybody who looked for me , humored me and kept this post near the top. Also thanks to RCK for having what is now abviously the most fantastic Amiga forum in the world :)

I cannot wait to transfer this across to a real Amiga disk and run it on its natural platform.

Now I might just get off my lazy arse and catalogue the 2800 disks I have sitting in the garage.

Enjoy the game everybody........

OMG! Wow, this is really a special day! I have been reading the ongoing adventures of the search for this game now for ages. When I saw this subject back on the New Topics list, I smiled in amusement as I knew it was due for being pushed back to the top of the list again. It's almost sad to see the search over. I am truly amazed. Is this what it will feel like when Putty Squad materializes?

If I had to guess, I would have figured it would show up in DPainter's library, though. Chalk up one for the yanks... :laughing

Sure enough it was just sitting under my nose. I thought I had looked for it when this post first began, but obviously I didn't look hard enough.

Is not this moment one more proof that the Amiga was and is the best computer ever made? And, of course, ABIME.NET is the best Amiga BBS ever! And with my 28.8k modem, I'm feeling pretty retro and nostalgic myself right now, even though I never really played Mayhem.

I think BeelzebubUK should go out there and dust off some of his obscurities and put'em in the Zone. He may have a few gems in that pile as well.

Oh, and I didn't buy Aegis Animator, but my copy was made from a friend's original, so I was halfway there!

LOL I tell you, I didn't mind buying good stuff, but boy did I get ticked when I bought crappy stuff. My turning point came when I saved $50 and bought The Black Cauldron, which turned out to be like an exact port from the TRS-80 methinks. Everything was try before you buy after that, with a whole lot more trying than buying.

He must have spent months dumping his 1000's of disks! For some strange reason, there was one CD in his series of five that nobody seemed to have. It took me a few months to track down someone who had this CD. The funny thing is, the guy who had it didn't have any other ones from the series.

It's all starting to sound prematurely like an episode of the TV show "Antiques Roadshow"

Whats the name of the disks ?? I've got 16 CDs with amiga stuff on them. Haven't really bothered to check them out yet.

They are called ACE 1,2 & 3, Merciful 1,2,3 & 5, Golden Games 1 & 2 and Amiga Gold 1 throught to 5 and a couple of others.

I'm thinking of getting a DVD writer soonish so I could hopefully put everything (CD's and floppy disk images) on to 1 disc :)

Just thought I'd let you guys know that one of the people that contacted me who remembered Mayhem has started making a PC version of the game using the original graphics and physics. I've just played a beta version which is very very good and eventually the game will have multiplayer capability across the internet and LAN.

Considering that the game requires at least 2 people (preferably 3 or 4 though) I'm assuming most of you haven't really been able to play this game and know how good it really is. Hopefully this will give you all a chance to really see what makes this game such a classic. One of my old friends who used to play this game came down this weekend and oh my god the game was still soooooo good. One of the few games that has not been tarnished by misguided nostalgia. We were in hysterics playing this and I just can't wait to get 4 people playing this again (I even bought a second Zipstick just so we could)

I shall let you all know as and when I get any more updates about the game.

If you haven't got a copy of the original then I have the disks here :

Mayhem Amiga Disk 1,2 & 3 + PC Version (http://www.excedian.co.uk/Uploads/Mayhem.rar)

I've been playing it using my A1200. To get it working without falling over I had to boot with CPU cache disabled and using Orginal graphics chipset. Then I boot with TUDE using 1.3 Kick ROM, No fastmem and 512k Chip mem.

Any updates on the PC ediition?

I just ran across an norweigan forum where they had started an Amiga memorylane kind of thread. And I listed my all time favourites.. And of corse Mayham was one of them. Thought I'd try look around -yet again- for the game. As I've never been able to even finda slightest evidence of its existence. Only thing I remembered was that it was made by some finish guys. And the name Mayhem... but try enter Mayhem in google :P

=)

Well I finally found it here I guess.. Havent tested it yet, just downloaded the 3 files. =)

dms, hmm now I gotta search this forum some and findout what emulator handles dms files =)

Wow - this was a blast from the past. Was surprised to find that my links for the files are still there.

According to the thread I paid DPainter the reward but that was 2 years ago. Maybe the thread title should be changed now :)

For anyone interested I still have the PC version that was being done by another fan. I never got any further updates from him but maybe someone else could carry on with it ?

I've uploaded it here along with the original Amiga images as well just in case I lose the other files :

Mayhem PC : http://www.louiscifer666.plus.com/Mayhem-install.exe
Mayhem Amiga Disc 1 : http://www.louiscifer666.plus.com/mayhem-1.dms
Mayhem Amiga Disc 2 : http://www.louiscifer666.plus.com/mayhem-2.dms
Mayhem Amiga Disc 3 : http://www.louiscifer666.plus.com/mayhem-3.dms

I still have those 2800 discs sitting in boxes....still haven't gotten round to cataloguing them yet :( I did manage to put those 16 CDs of images onto 3 DVD's though.

I have been spending too much money updating my 1200 though. Now has network card, SCSI CD-ROM, VGA Adapter, 68030 50Mhz CPU & 64MB Fast Ram :)

Holy crap! I tried to find Mayhem about 3 years ago but only found a bunch of threads started by BeelzebubUK :D

I actually found the Amiga disk of PD games about a month ago with Mayhem, Extreme Violence, Bally 3 etc. A week ago, I found out my friends house mate has an A500, so I went round there today with the disk burning a hole in my pocket. And lo and behold, I played Mayhem again :) I have the original 1 level version that only comes on 1 disk if anybody wants me to rip it to adf or whatever. I'm downloading the dms files for the 3 disk version now (and the PC version)

It's a bit late, but thanks Dpainter and BeelzebubUK!!! Mayhem was my favourite game back in the day. Me, my brother and a couple of mates would sit there and play for hours, developing new tactics and even stupid show off-y things to do. For example, the "Turkey Run" where you fly down the right hand side of the map facing down thrusting the whole way, only to turn at just the right moment so your ship hits the ground and bounces off safely. Oh, and landing on the big bubble at the bottom of the map to refuel. Ahhh, good times :)

Time to check out the 3 disk version!

Afro88
11 October 2004, 06:41
Well, turns out the version I have on the Amiga is the second disk (which imho is the best map anyway). Does the mission menu work for anyone? Do you reckon the dude/s were working on a single player mode too?

Looking at the game with older eyes, it looks like it was very hallucinagen influenced, with all the tripped out faces and stuff strewn around the maps. And the "bubbles" at the bottom of the map on the second disk? More like mushrooms!

I have been searching for this game for ages, so far I have only had a one level version on a demo pack (Sanity Velveteen #??, got it in 1991 I think). Wonderful that the full game seems to be available - this was a favourite while I was in high school, and me and my buddies were anxious to find a version with more levels, as the title screen suggests there are several!

However, do these files work on WinUAE? I have tried the dms's and also converted them into adf's and the result seems to be the same - Guru meditation after the decrunching flicker. I have not tried transfering the disks yet. Is there a configuration for WinUAE that runs the game? Thanks!!!

CodyJarrett
03 November 2005, 23:40
Jurbo - there's a three disk version but I'm having problems loading the other levels. There may be a problem with the ADFs.

If you'd like to take a look at it you can find it in TOSEC or else I'll upload it to the Zone.

Jurbo
17 November 2005, 13:20
@ CodyJarrett - I have tried the files that have been posted in threads on this forum - none that I have been able to download seem to work. Not on PC, not on an A500 with 0,5 MB chip/0,5 MB fast.

I'd be happy to try out if you have a different version. I checked out TOSEC but couldn't really understand the site (I registered to be able to enter the forum, downloads etc) - are there games downloads available (maybe I'm blind or stupid or...)???

If you would be so kind to upload to the Zone, I'd be very grateful!

Wow. Cool to see that people have fond memories of this game. So fond they want to pay 50 UKP to get it!

I did a search for it just to see if there were any screens from it on the web, as I drew one of the stages for it, and stumbled upon this thread. Here's some background info on the game:

It was coded and designed in Harstad/Norway by Espen Skoglund, who was a member of the demo group IT. The music in the menu (if there is any music in this release) is done by Walkman/IT (don't recall his real name right now). The game was supposed to have a multiplayer and singleplayer part, but Espen never got around to the single player, because every evening five or six people gathered around in his bedroom to play the multiplayer all night. A demo of the game was sent around to various software houses at the time, to see if we could get some funding for the game, but no one wanted it. Then the demo that you guys probably have got spread, and Espen went to university, and the whole project was abandoned.

Thanks for this thread, btw. Put a smile to my face and brought back a lot of memories.

I studied at university with Espen and one of the other IT guys (I should remember the name...) and they gave me a copy of it. Nice enough.

I think Walkman's real name was Øystein something. He did some amazing stuff.

Whoohoo! Had almost managed to forget about this game. As lamobird said, the game was also supposed to have a single player mode bearing similarities to the old "Thrust" style pick-up-a-ball action. Never really got around to completing this, though. Actually, I never even got around to nailing down the physics in a way that made the game playable (i.e., not insanely difficult to control).

And before anyone asks: No, I don't have the data and source code for the game lying around right now. It's stored with my Amiga equipment which is (or at least was) stashed away in a computer lab up at the University of Tromsø.

Ho-ho! Got a copy of "Maasedemo"? 'Einar - Einar garasjen'

I still have a copy of the C= NDA papers. Well, the first draft I filled out anyway :-)

I see old names from University from time to time. And I think I know where I got "Øystein" from: Wasn't that someone Walkman supposed to be teaming up with (or am I having memory bit failure again?)?

Check out Gravity-Force if you want to see the original game that others tried to emulate ;)

Quit your job, get up in the loft and sort them out NOW.

BippyM will fund your living through monthly paypal transactions. :D

If you need any help just get BippyM to pay one of his 131 children to carry the boxes around.

Such a simple solution!

:shocked:laughing:lol funny fucka

Greetings from the past ;)

Good to see a few more people have made use of the links and remember the game.

And I'm in awe that the original maker of the game has been here as well.....you are my Amiga god :bowdown

I still have those 3 boxes with 2800 disks sitting in my loft in my new house now so things never change :)

If I win the lottery I might find enough time on my hands to actually sort through them.
Hey, one more return !
Welcome back BeelzebubUK :)

ps: I link back your account to your old posts :cool

I always hate it if people just leave without a trace.
You showed them, Beelzebub! :) Way to go! :evilgrin

@RCK: also thanks for protecting the author from getting deleted because of only 1 post! :)
Especially for the HOL team it is essential to have a way to find authors by their e-mail addresses! Sometimes one post on EAB is the only trace we have! :)

Two old friends visited me a week ago, and amonst other retro-gaming, we played some Mayhem (the green level that is the only one I have) on my old, yellowed A500. The game still rocks like it did when we were in high school! :cool

If only I could get the other levels to work, I have had no luck with the dms-files or the adf's extracted from them... It's been over a year since I first got the dms's, I'll have to give it another go... :confused

Just to make sure - there really are working versions of the other levels?

There was a version of Mayhem in the zone some time ago that had three disks. Each disk could be booted separately, and each contained one different level.
All levels work, at least in WinUAE.

Back in the day, when I was in school, I only ever had one disk. Thanks to eab, I not only got the game, but two more levels on top ;)

I put it back in the zone, BIG thanks again to BeelzebubUK for providing the original external links to this rare classic!

Huge thanks, rsn8887! :)

The files are dms's, I'll try to make them work (I guess that my earlier problems happened at the dms->adf conversion stage) this time!

If I end up having problems, would you mind converting them to adf for me (I'm intending to put them on disks for real Amiga hardware)? :nervous

Hmm, I still can't get the game to work. I'll first try to get the dms's to work on WinUAE, befrore trying to transfer it to Amiga. I have WinUAE 1.3.4, emulating 68000 processor, 512 chip, 512 slow, ECS Agnus (or OCS).

Loads, then decrunch flickers, then guru. Any ideas?

I have also now tried extracting the dms-files to adf with XDMS. No problems in the conversion, but WinUAE behaves the same way with the adf's. Loads 17 tracks, then the decrunching flicker, then guru. If I let the disk load again, I get a blue screen that stays there.

I have tried dozens of configurations in WinUAE with the same result. Could someone give me the right configuration or other advice? Thanks!

Hi, seeing that this thread has lived for years, I hope there is a chance that someone still have the Mayhem disks? None of Belzebubs links work as of today. One of the gfx guys on that game is in fact my brother, and it would've been great to fire this up in WinUAE and check if I'm still better than him :D (or was it the other way around?).

Anyway, all help appreciated!

Cheers!

Hello olas,

Welcome to EAB ;)

I've put a file called Mayhem.zip in The Zone! for you which contains:

... Mayhem PC: Mayhem-install.exe
... Mayhem Amiga Disc 1: mayhem-1.dms
... Mayhem Amiga Disc 2: mayhem-2.dms
... Mayhem Amiga Disc 3: mayhem-3.dms

To get access to The Zone! click here (http://eab.abime.net/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_thezone_faq_item) and follow the instructions.

Thanks must go to BeelzebubUK for the original upload :great

Thanks alot DamienD!

Got a Guru Meditation on first try in the latest WinUAE, though. I'll give it another try later - and even transfer it to the A1200 as well.

Thanks alot DamienD!
No problem ;)

Got a Guru Meditation on first try in the latest WinUAE, though.
After reading through the thread again is seems that quite a lot of people suffer from this issue even after converting the .DMS --> .ADF using xdms :sad

TBH I haven't actually tried the game myself, has anyone had any success with getting this working?

Hey olas,

I've put another file in The Zone! for you called Mayhem (adf).zip which contains:

... Mayhem (Disk 1 of 3).adf {CRC 231090f7}
... Mayhem (Disk 2 of 3).adf {CRC 46b46084}
... Mayhem (Disk 3 of 3).adf {CRC 04e758bd}

Not sure of the details behind this set, maybe it works better though?

Edit: added CRCs so that Jimbo can see if his version is the same...

If not I have these ones:

Mayhem (19xx)(Ensignia)PD(Disk 1 of 3).adf

Prob the same as DamienD's though.

If the version I have is even the right game that is. Havent looked at pictures or anything.

Hey hey guys :)

I changed ISP recently so will move the files to my new hosting tonight if I remember. I always make sure I have at least 2 copies of them stashed away somewhere so I don't go through the original trauma of finding it again :great

Thanks for linking my posts. Was quite surprised I could still login :D

Oooooh and now in ADF format as well. I'll get those and host with the others. Thanks.

Still got those disks in the loft. Moved them to sealed plastic boxes now as some of them were ravaged by cardboard box deterioration :sad I promise I'll at least get a list written down of whats on the labels so you guys can see if theres any hidden gems in there. Give me a couple of weeks.

Uploaded to my new hosting :

Mayhem Amiga Disk 1,2 & 3 + PC Version (http://www.excedian.co.uk/Uploads/Mayhem.rar)

TBH I haven't actually tried the game myself, has anyone had any success with getting this working?

This is how I got it working a few years ago when I managed to get hold of it :

"I've been playing it using my A1200. To get it working without falling over I had to boot with CPU cache disabled and using Original graphics chipset. Then I boot with TUDE using 1.3 Kick ROM, No fastmem and 512k Chip mem."

WOW!!! :crazy

I've been looking for this game on and off for years and tonight I found this thread!!!!

Me and a bunch of friends spent many a happy hour playing this game, there weren't many 4 player games around that were this playable and addictive!

Don't want to resurrect an old thread for no reason, but I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone that helped find this, particularly DPainter for coming up with the goods and also to BeelzebubUK for such persistence and patience! And a HUGE thanks to eSk for writing it in the first place. :bowdown

I went to Tromsø a couple of years ago, can't believe I was so close to the source code.. lol!

Sites like this make the internet a great place to be! :great
