View Full Version : WHDLoad For CD32 Pad Campaign.

The purpose of this is to document all the games that could benefit from a CD32 Pad and for all those who like to play Amiga games layed back from the keyboard etc.
Hopefully some WHDLoad slave authors will take notice and maybe one day add these features
Please keep your description brief and we will try and build a simple easy to read comprehensive list.

I've been thinking of a few more games that need to be added to this list. Here are the ones I thought of so far. Of course, making ALL games work with the Play/Pause button would be great, since the CD32 doesn't have a P or spacebar key.
NEEDING CD32 CONTROL PAD SUPPORT
Jurassic Park - *Needs button to access consoles and switch weapons*
Wonderboy in Monsterland - *Needs button to replace spacebar to open doors*
Street Fighter II - *Select joystick or keyboard control and amount of players*
Super Stardust - AGA Disk version, needs button for weapons selection (although a CD32 version exists, the controls are weird, and if on a compilation it would be missing the music)
Stardust - *Button select weapons*
Pinkie - Not sure what it needs, but I haven't seen it on a compilation yet
These other games would be great to have on the CD32, but won't run yet because of memory restrictions. If someone were to get them working on a 2MB CD32, we'd all be very grateful.
NEEDING CD32 MEMORY SUPPORT
Super Street Fighter II AGA
Aladdin
The Lion King
Capital Punishment
Master Axe
I'll add more if I think of any.
North and South with 2 CD32 pads would be awsome!

Cavemania updated to utilise Blue button for jump
Very cool work Galahad!!!
haven´t tried yet but you´re supa dupa fly!! can you also fix North and South for two pads in two player modus? with left and right shift mapped to the pad.. would be great!!!
maybe i´m blind but can´t find the two games in the zone...
Maybe a lot of other game could benefit of having at least a second button support. For example for jumping by pressing button 2 instead of UP.
trying cavemania on my real a1200 i get dos-error #205 object not found on locking cavemaniadata :mad

That isn't the full install, thats only the WHDLoad installer, you need to provide the data yourself ;)
It works with the Quartex version.
thanx! just uploaded the installed qtx version to the zone.. for lazy people like me ;)
works fine with my config and the original cd32 pad!!! :)
unfortunately not with my 2nd megadrive-pad button for some strange reason but in general this pad seems to be quite choosy :nuts the pad works great with e.g. turrican3 or snowbros and some cd32-titles but then again not with e.g. banshee.
i don´t need to understand everything i guess...
on topic again, i´m looking forward for more adaptions as mentioned above ...NORTH AND SOUTH anyone?? :agree

Kid Gloves II, could you map the space bar to the second (or blue) button on the control pad, this key is needed in the game to use the arcade machines and open doors and stuff. Also, after you die, you need to enter your name on the high score table and press Return/Enter. Fire doesn't work, so could you map the Return key to one of the CD32 buttons as well? The Return key is also needed in-game to exit from the slot machine. Thanks!
Battle squadron : Defaulting player 2 to joystick, or button two for changing settings instead of F1 F2

That's a damn good idea. It's a real shame there was never a second button option in that game to fire the special weapon, it's pretty hard to spin the control pad in a circle to fire it, compared to a joystick, or the second mouse button.
Another game that needs support for the CD32 pad is Puggsy, I think it needs the space bar during the game.
And all games with a pause key should be switched to the CD32 pad's Play button.

Final Fight is horribly broken because of it's crazy one-button control scheme. Perhaps the controls could be properly remapped to two buttons?

Very Nice Idea 2 buttons would add a lot
You know sf2 when you select "2 button joystick" and "shift key" is this three buttons or the shift key is repeated?

been looking over this, and i think it's all great work btw.
i dont have a CD32 myself anymore, but still use the comp.pro pad all the time, and i hate having to reach over to use the keyboard on my a1200. (i dont keep it on a desk)
i was just wondering if Galahad (who seems kind enough to fix a few installs in this way) had considered making Pinball Dreams CD32 playable, with the same layout as Fantasies or Illusions?
i saw the "table selection" mentioned above, but i dont know if its possible to have different button-maps between the menu and the game but personally just in-game buttons would be a great improvement. (not sure why this is not mentioned above?)
Same goes for JOTD's SlamTilt installer.
also, i'm wondering about Galahad's 99%-complete SWOS update..... to work on 2meg chip, thus CD32 friendly? (guessing) - i'm fascinated to know if this is the case,
anwhow, i hope you all endeavour to add more pad-mapping to your installs, as i think its a great idea and much apprciated.

Same goes for JOTD's SlamTilt installer.
I talked to Galahad about this on IRC and i believe he said he could work something out, and concerning JOTD's Slam Tilt slave i don't know unfortunately.
There is however a patch on Aminet which does let you control Slam Tilt with a pad. But it is missing certain menu controls.
http://it.aminet.net/game/patch/nts_slamtiltcd.lzh
http://it.aminet.net/game/patch/nts_slamtiltcd.readme
There is also an appeal in the readme for more control.
The bad news is that the intro and menu aren't patched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plz plz plz if you can add these feature so I could play the game directly
on a base CD32.

cheers for that W.S. i'll have a look at that patch.
gotta agree with Wonderboy in MonsterLand above (space on 2nd button) and if i bothered i could probably find a few more too, but i dont want to request too many!
-- edit --
slamtilt patch is pretty lame having looked now... not only does it not like either HD install i tried (asks for disk one) - but reading the docs i see the flippers are on rwd/fwd and not left / blue.... ugh!

About Battle Squadron...
The latest WHD version can use the second button for the bomb :)
This doesn't work for the second player when selecting a joystick as player 2 input.
Also, is it possible to add a tooltype for player2 input, so that I can set a joystick as default ?

even though its not that good and the installer is from 1998(!) it'd be nice to have a custom tooltype to change the FWD / RWD buttons of "thomas the tankengine pinball" over to Left & Blue - like every other CD32 pinball game...
i managed to change the keys of the speccy Horace games with an emualtor's disassambler myself once... i can imagine it's *that* much different :laughing
Gauntlet II "JoyFire1" to start as player.
surely you'd want Magic on blue-button too?

doesnt Turrican do space on blue anyway? maybe last time i played it was on emualtion with a custom layout... i forget.

Twin World uses the space bar to change "weapon" (bubbles of different colours).
On my wishlist are primarily these: Twin World, PP Hammer And North And South. :)
BTW, is there any different way to map keyboard keys to buttons on the CD32 pad (if you don't want to wait for a slave that supports it, that is)? Is there any tool out there that you could put on a custom CD32 collection to load along with WHDload for each game, mapping the keys you need to buttons on the CD32 pad? Oh, how I would love that!
Also, can you set a button on the CD32 pad as quit key in WHDload?

You can't load anything alongside WHDLoad as it takes over the system and negates any programs you run before it.

Frontier Elite 2 would definitely benefit from some attention to the CD32 joypad code. The CD32 version was latest version of the game produced, with some extra features, but if you use it on an Amiga the button occasionally fires your lasers while you are docked which gives you a Police record and destroys the atmosphere (no pun intended!) :-)

The differences on the CD32 version are mentioned in a review of CD32 Frontier on the Amiga Games Database, its the second of the 2 reviews I believe.

Barbarian (Palace) *F1 and F2 to pad*
i had a look into this today. Apart from the fact the keyboard code is hard to find (still evading me atm, but i'm sure i can get it)... there is a much bigger problem.
The game still requires names to be entered on the scoreboard with the keyboard. Personally, i would refuse to fix the game-start button without also finding a solution to the scoreboard problem. This seems like a big (although not impossible to fix) change to make - if the joystick is to be used for entry, although i'd be willing to look into it in the future, (assuming no one else shows an interest in solving this) it's not something i will be doing soon, given the size of the problem

Ok, I have tried the Head over Heels CD32 pad WHDLoad version and it works well, but there is a little problem... the CARRY button (which is F3) is not mapped to anything on the joypad. Carry button is only available for Heels when he picks up the Bag (this is available very quickly - 4 rooms after the initial room he can pick it up using joystick - steering Charles).
If you could please map this action (F3) to the Yellow button then it would work as it should :)

Due to lack of time (therefore I haven't read all the comments) can be linked the "Play" button on the pad to the pause option in any game? Just because of the well-known CD100, CD200, etc. compilations, it would be extremely useful to have...

every game needs patching individually to do that.
if there isnt any other function to justify a CD32 pad-patch its unlikely (although not unheard of) that any WHD slave author would take that up.
